/|\ It was fresh and lively . . . /|\
** a yellow petal so bloomy . . .
 

The Petals Hurt Too

Each petal cuts me in my sleep—
you call it soft,
but I bleed every time I touch it.
The mirror doesn’t cry with me anymore.
Only the fog stays.
It hums like a swallowed scream.

Weight of a Petal

Within the silence
a petal falls from still light ~
not just the flower,
but all that it once carried
lands softly inside my heart.

One petal alone opens

A lone petal unfurls
not a bloom,
not a flower,
no use to bees,
as one decrepit. 
It's on its knees 
trying to please
all alone.

It's an echo of a question,
yet to be asked.
It's a pose, unpoised, unprompted. 
It's one eye, nose, or ear, 
in defaced mask.
It's a one-handed clap,
an air-kiss from poked puckered lips
It's a hand-shake request 
never returned.

An Open Petal

Tall grass above
a sleeping dream
Hiding what
His promise deems

Embedded deep
within the blades
New whispers seed
as life conclaves

The sun to mirror
God’s new day
Each ray He grants
new hope in play

That rises softly
through night’s travail
An open petal

Lone Petal

The petal of a rose once fell 
then drifted slowly through the trees.
Upon the wind it tumbled long
until it drifted up to me.

At first, I saw no value there
in just one petal all alone.
But then I stooped and picked it up
and found that it was still a rose.

When Death comes knocking at the door,
And as the last petal finally falls,
My voice will be stilled.
My heart, now ticking off like a clock,
Will ever be silent.
My footfalls shall no more be heard
All my songs will be stifled in the throat
All my crazy thoughts will be frozen,
And I shall take leave of all

I recline with my cherry tree musings…

a fount of blossoms rise
and curve up from the ground 
up into a heaven-and-cloud scene  
to spread in splendor  a festoon of blooms 
like cumulus-puffs plucked from above
placed in tufts to fluff graceful branches 
plush with clusters the pink of an ingenue’s 
blush captured within her maiden

As the last petal falls ~ another flower will bloom.

As I traverse the bleakness of the wasteland, 
my footsteps crush the cinnamon ground.
Dry and brittle soil turns to desolate dust, 
swirls on the wings of the autumn wind. 
Some blows away from me despondent,
some I collect in my weathered urn, 
and spread on the secluded skeletal roots 
of a blooming rose sapling, I rear

Last week I cut a bouquet of flowers
from my garden and now they’re withering.
It fills me with melancholy memories
about a time when my love was new
and gently flowed within my heart.

Time between bud to bloom and death
of the once velvet petals has come too soon.
I've watched their bright colors fade 
and frowned when some fell

As the Autumn falls
The jays sing
A melody -a tale the old wives would sing 
While the sun fills the sky dripping
With gold as honey to the brim
I catch sight from my window 
Vines and creepyard twirling around the window sill
As if they sing 
A song as sweet as demise or 
If it were the angels

Summer has been long and tiring
All nature pushing on to the end
Now as Autumn walks slowly by
A few flowers still attempt to lie
Reputations of beauty to defend
But all know it’s time for retiring

It’s a similar end, for one and all
Each flower having had their day
There’s no escape, Winter’s near 
Resigned to wait for another

As the Last Petal Falls

softly it lingers, a breath in the air,
a whisper of love, too fragile to bear--
the rose in your hands, once burning bright,
fades in the hush of the fading light

a crimson promise, a vow once made,
wilting now in autumn’s shade--
yet love is not lost in petals torn,
but in the echoes where hearts were worn
