Premium Member Ye Olde Custard Tale

dessert door dessert door
opens to custard and cream
but jester broke in
with bells and a spoon
. . . and
off with his head!
said the queen

dessert door dessert door
to a room of pudding galore
the king in his undies
snuck in there one night
. . . and
then went again
for some more

At the Butter Exchange
Is grand commerce in motion
Yet be under no illusion
Of the merchant’s potion

‘Clip, Clop,’
Go horses’ shoes
On the cobble stones of Lancaster Quay
From nearby office windows
Proprietors observe with glee

The little children of Sunday’s Well
Are taught a well-known adage
That they must hold their balance
Whilst traversing Daly’s Bridge

Great ships unload boxes of tea
Outside the Customs House
Bringing Ceylon’s finest
To the financier’s spouse

When evening strikes
The Savings Bank closes
And across the river
An alderman’s motion proposes

The Corporation tram
Carries the workers to dinner
Their journey brightened
By a passing street singer

Yet throughout the city
Lies an abundance of misery
A reminder of poverty
And economic bewitchery

Premium Member The Olde Country Fair

The old county faIr
Six times on the Ferris wheel
A three dog night

A sudden shower
Run for cover or shiver
Uncurled ringlets laugh

A tiny trophy
A water pistol winner
Clutched in sleeping hands

Our overture
A rumble of fireworks
Beneath a rainbow

Premium Member The Olde Salt

a frayed brim,
jeans torn and worn
- faded by sun and sea;
a carefree beard,
not of fad nor fashion
   but of living!

tears and tears for
truant truths
      dried
like the salty stains
on a slicker and
the vacant hopes
  of a stare...

Olde Expensive

Old Expensive

The snow is falling, so, I button up my head,
above it, Someone’s sound – “above a street lamp”.
Music, leaks in, the lampshade sways,
hanging above a stained in bed;
Freddie gave it all for champagne.
Until, the thin applause fell flat!
Outside amongst the frozen sparrows,
and the cutting snowflakes, snowblades;
I see the monsters of winter, No!
I see the monster that is winter; coldly
emerging from its hollowness glade.
An old man in his expensive wilderness
rushes by, his white distorted knuckles
try to squeeze the breath, slowly from
his bitter dream of heavy coins and light notes.
While back at home! His wife shaves her skin,
to make him thin! She stands in a timeless mirror,
in a seamless hall, surrounded by a reflection of wealth!
This has now revealed itself as their poverty,
tangled in a bruise memory of blueing veins.
Comfortably! The monster sits; waiting in their counting house.

Neath Olde Southern Cross

NEATH OLDE SOUTHERN CROSS

‘Neath olde Southern Cross
sparkling stars
show a radiant view,
for we will stand
in this brand-new land,
so far, far away
from toil, trouble and strife
of a darkness past,
where oppressions reigned
amidst religious persecutions
of our faith,
so, in order to escape
to a brand-new life,
our motherland we’ve left behind,
for across the seas we came,
where our journey took many
in under sail
and by fickle winds,
and in doing so
new trepidations and fears appeared
and without much thought we overcome,
now just feeling of an unknown
for as we stepped ashore,
and on strange tree near,
a jackass laughed
its peculiar sound indeed to us,
and for all who came ashore that day
in watching the tide come in,
this foreign land we now call it home,
to be a land of opportunity
and of hope and dreams
and from uncertain pasts left behind.

Ye Olde Classoom Days

Let us take a cruise to the great past.
Hold tight, it won't be an easy task.
Look here, pencils and erasers,
and books to hold, again!
Classrooms, no 'putters,
Loose leaf paper,
New crayons,
Rulers,
Clock

Ye Olde Testament

(aka Merçi à Lot)

God has a strict measure of worth
As well as a Jew's sense of mirth
God once said to Lot,
"You know what you've got?
Your wife is the Salt of the Earth!"

Olde book
Quaint look

Verse cites
Strange writes

Say strains
Poise gains

Once then
Just when

Sad lines
Work fine

Words breeze
Steal squeeze

Mull good
Soul food

Rhymes blend
Notch trends

Olde glow
Still shows

Mind plays
Same sway

Quatrain #609:
OLDE

Outlook moves heart with vivid poise,
Live your own art as love frames choice;
Do act your part in wholeness true,
End where you start with vibrant voice.

Sense time reveal such grateful thoughts:
Dance in that dream of happy moves,
Quaint feelings will a certain lot;
Two ways now stream the final grooves,
Eight points to note as treasures speak;
One touching theme to measure wit,
Seven can vote a focal peak;
Keep such fond streams as radiance fits.
Outlive the grip of poignant stance,
Live each new day with fragrance deep;
Delight each trip with lovely chance.
Choice fits this play with tears you weep,
Arrive with smiles your journey quest,
Reap joy that styles your very best.

That Olde Chestnut

I  am a chestnut tree
Hard to crack!
“That olde chestnut.”
The hurricane
 barks!

My leaves are green
With enormous veins:
Lizard's claws;
Grip tight
their victims.

Upon my bough
A patchwork nest:
A golden ratio nestled
In the centre;
Bustling with baby sparrows
Mama sparrow is picking
The warms
Loitering in
the undergrowth.

I am a chestnut tree
In the autumn;
My fruit brown
Harvested.
And burst open.

I am a chestnut tree
Who swing and sway!
 My roots are steely
And fallen leaves are hay.

I am a chestnut tree;
A reliable witness to many
Centuries old stories!
Danny old boy carved a
Bleeding heart
On my bough.
His bestowed's
name is Mary
She is fair and ninety!

I am a chestnut tree
In a London park.
I stand tall and mighty
And am proud!
My heart is a sapling;
Bearing young loves!

Forge then the flame that makes thought pure,
Exploit the feel of lovely spark;
Etch a kind frame that feels more sure,
Live touch that heals and sets the mark.
Obey the thought that love now starts,
Love must prevail as grace makes whole;
Deed frames the lot where peace fills art,
Embrace fond sail as winds stir soul.
Yield to the touch of lovely dream,
Expect the world to challenge joy;
Thrill more as such as grandeur streams.
Note how faith hurls in love's employ.
Explore the gift each moment brings,
Work now uplifts true zest that springs.
