May we be blessed each morning
before a new day has begun…
to remind ourselves
to cherish every moment in the sun….
And if the sun is not shining on someone…
may we…to all concerned
offer up the brightness of our smile
until their sun returns.
We tend to realize the older we grow
how in life there is a definite ebb and flow…
How sometimes the sun will shine
making the landscape clear and bright
and other times our eyes have a hard time
adjusting to the darkness of the night
When it’s bright outside…we laugh and play and run
we try to enjoy and store in our memory
every moment in the sun.
So when darkness falls and we can’t tell night from day
we’ll have those memories in the sun to help illuminate our way.
When sadness darkens our world
memories of the sunlight help us overcome our fears
reminding us there is joy out there
Floating…in the wake of all our tears
Reminding us somewhere in our sorrow
if we look for joy…we’ll find it
and that every dark cloud…
will one day surrender…
to the sun …waiting patiently behind it.
Neither despise any man
nor detest anything, even in the sand
For every man has his moment in the sun
everything a purpose in the long run …

Heart to heart we live as one inside this castle for two
soulmates for life we hoped, but we never really knew
Hands interlocked, shoulder to shoulder , we toiled all day
only the bathe in the night by a moonlight's inlay
Heart to heart we loved each other like never before
believing in each other no matter what God had in store
Lips to lips we kissed like children in the garden of love
seeded and homegrown we grew like flowers, beloved
Heart to heart we grew old together and lived as one
walking side by side we savored every moment in the sun
Face to face we watched each other grow and change
knowing that I love yous were always in our vocal range
Heart to heart we shall live until God takes us both away,
to that Castle in the sky where we will live forever this way !
Love, Mystic Rose
Upon the misty heights I roam
And wonder, as I wander lone
For she who mystifies my dawn
And listens as I muse along
Is nearer still, as lone I walk –
I speak in silence from the heart
Of days gone by when we were young
And knew our moment in the sun
Was brighter then than it would be,
For even then we knew, could see
That time and distance would parlay
And deeper still for us portray
The breathless passion that we knew,
Which sprang from wells from which we drew,
Not knowing when the moment came
How we would never be the same –
And now I never walk alone
For deep with her in thought I roam
And still recall with vivid sight
And memory untinged by night
The flame we burned with passion bright
When lone I roamed on misty heights
Her wide blonde petals
once rose to the sun
now but drooping
browned 'n beiged tresses
swaying gingerly softly
contemplating the dark turf
of dirty brown carpet below.
'You had your moment in the sun,'
comforted breezy wind.
'But I so thought my beauty
would be for much longer,'
softly wept that faded rose.
So be the lament
so be for beauty all
all to meet the chill
the sad of brilliance fade
of beauty lost
in the dust decay
of yesterday.
Friends fidget, as do fellow musicians
throughout the auditorium anticipating
their moment in the sun.
To be truthful, they all wish it were done.
Notably nervous, nauseous,
She approaches the bench.
Notes are committed to memory, but...
just in case, she places a copy
on the piano.
Mom's seated down front
with grandma both beaming with delight.
One wipes her forehead;
one makes the sign of the cross.
Dad's in the balcony front row
with her wiggly brother and giggly step-sister.
Smiling, grinning, they want to wave;
Dad's look lets them know better.
Focused now, she begins her
original composition - Sonlight Sonata.
For five minutes of sheer delight,
she leaves anxiety with the audience.
Lying in a patch of clover,
we're lulled to sleep by buzzing bees.
And resting there under the trees,
we let our feelings take over.
Snuggled together, our eyes closed,
my fingers gently stroke your hair.
And our hearts feel lighter than air;
two lovers, intimately posed.
Blanketing us with dappled light,
Sol tucks us in with a warm smile.
And Nature goes that extra mile:
scattering every cloud in sight.
As reality pauses time,
love forges two souls into one.
And makes our moment in the sun
extraordinarily sublime.
"Beauty doesn't last forever, but for some it does" by Poet
the moment I saw you
I fell in love
butteflies in my stomach
stars spinning across my head
I knew right there and then
that we would spend our lives together
and it would be
thirty years of romance and love
deep, cherishable, constant
our dream together was a touch of beautiful
I thought it would never end
our love, a masterpiece
but all life withers and sometimes people change
our beauty had it's moment in the sun
but now we are apart
but I still remember our love
and those memories will never leave me
a beauty so pure
The autumn of our years, our moment in the sun. Still vibrant with the colors of a life fully lived. Retired from our labors. A canvas now, painted with the brilliance of our triumphs, the subtle shades of our common day to day, and the scars of our struggles. Telling a story. Teaching a lesson. Mementos of places been and moments lived. Suspended in the air for all to see. Each day, like autumn leaves, hanging by a thread. Enjoying the warmth of knowing that the heat of the summer years is past. While feeling the first winds of winter stir. A reminder to all who see. The bud becomes the leaf, that feeds the family tree. And when, like us, its work is done, it tells its story and gives way.
Do you remember going to Bald Head Island? Must have been 13 years ago now. Well, I finally went back & the wind off the ocean was working overtime. It was blowing in streams, kicking the dunes around like paper. When I stood up out of my chair, I caught the stream square in my sternum. It pushed me back 2 inches, 2 feet
10 feet,
10 years–when time still hadn’t ground the pink and yellow seashells down into brown sand. When you were still alive.
It took me a moment to realize where I was. I couldn’t see my chair anymore, couldn’t see the waves. I took one step forward then another, 2 feet forward, 10 feet,
10 years.
and I looked up through the breeze, into the setting sun and caught a glimpse of you smiling. It was nice to see you again, even if it was just for a moment.
The waves build as the tides of change take their shift, I in my humanity watch through helpless gaze unable to stay the mighty hand of nature with full understanding my time shall soon be swept to mere memory as the dust of time’s past
Thus I take heed to enjoy this day,,,,
this moment.....
my moment in the sun.
"Time is the thief you cannot banish."
Phyllis McGinley
Their shadows follow slowly behind them
close friends sharing a moment in the sun
disappearing into the floating clouds
playing Hide and Seek among the branches
They refuse, as shadow's do, to grow up
to stand still and stop that fidgeting
laughing as the wind tosses their hair
racing ahead to splash through puddles
Holding hands they engage in a mock skip
drawing closer as the sun's moment fades
close friends sharing a moment - drift apart
withdraw into an ever graying dusk

Once I held a diamond in my hand,
whose beauty consumed me like a fire.
With every sparkle the flame was fanned,
her every touch stoked my desire.
I was afraid to let her beauty shine,
my lovely diamond I would not share.
So in total darkness I kept her blind,
I shut the door and held her there.
One day I took her out to see the sun,
how she shimmered in those rays of light.
When her moment in the sun was done,
I put her in my pocket and shut it tight.
Somewhere in the night she disappeared,
for I had woke to find my diamond gone.
The day had come that I had feared,
the ray of light was taken from my dawn.
In my heart I allowed jealousy to rule
and let slip through my hands a precious jewel.
