My heart is made of birds
Singing for me ………… It’s about time,
For the raven to leave,

Sunrise is made of birds,
Singing in the dew shower,

I can't escape hearing the voices.
Even when, I myself, am utterly alone,
Even when the plea for peace,
is threadbare, shredded into tatters 
of shrugged-off 'don't matters'.

The child I once was,
clamors for wonder, mischief, and make-believe.

Words like rivers, he won't let them drown.
Eyes set firm, with fire and pride,
Even truth must wait till he's tried.

He sees threats wherever he may go,

I want slow mornings,
bread rising in the oven,
little feet padding across the floor,
a Bible open beside my coffee.

I want to home school my children
at the kitchen table with crayons and scripture,
to teach them about fractions
and forgiveness in the same breath,
to let wonder lead the way.

I want to be the wife who lights candles at dinner,

Reminding you of your inner light

SYRIANS MADE A MISTAKE

Peacefully they had marched on
Voices raised, not fists
Pleading for freedom,
For a chance to breathe without fear.

But what truly is freedom?
Is it worth twelve million displaced souls
Cities leveled into dust
And dreams buried beneath rubble?

What began as peaceful
Became a wound the world blinked past
Sores etched into memory
Scars broadcast, then forgotten.

The headlines have moved on
