A suicide none dare declare

Shàngó!
Where are your fiery eyes,
that spit fear into burning coal,
that blaze with warmth and glow,
a conflagrator dancing with flames?

Who dares invoke your name in sin,
and not have their tongue seared?
You summon thunder as a hound to hunt,
their wealth and souls it strikes at once,
swift as lightning no man can withstand.

You are a god with no

Downpour

the lightning flashing
     the booming of the thunder
          torrential downpour

The old lightning tree

I went to see the old burnt out lightning tree.
To see what wisdom and guidance it had for me.
.
I've been drawn here, since I was so young.
Mighty oak tree, on the hill, so tall, so strong.

Many times spent here in play and laughter.
Many times spent here in silence, at times of disaster. 

Struck by lightning

Private Celebration

Whirlwind
Of summer embers
Stirs up
From the un-mowed grass

Swept by the brooms of July 4th fireworks
Booming distant in the furled city

Up high
To the tree tops
The fire flies rise

To the hunger of bats that swoop as spoons
Banging the pan of moon

More than enough for all
The stars
Lightning bugs
Moonbeams and bean wings

Consciousness everywhere

Our heads tilt
On their cracked bodies

Statues
Still standing
For a

Empire State Building and Lightning

How many times has the Empire State Building been struck by lightning?
I was guessing three or four then I remembered how old she is.
So, I guessed twenty times.
If I took that times five, I would be a lot closer to an accurate guess.

Say What

It’s raining cats and dogs 
Do you know why
Us young kids shout
Devil is beating his wife

What crazy superstitions
We had in North Carolina 
A woman’s intuition 
Was powerfully finer 

Step on a crack
Break your mother’s back
Why would you do that
It’d make her very sad 

My muse has had a few
Forgive my inconsistency 
The more writing I

Junco

bold in winter's cold~
cruise in peace with no bruises
yet predict lightning 
to warn and heed nature's call
for spiritual rebirth

Ghost Horses

The dismal, drizzling midnight and happenstance finds her lost by an empty field 
with few things left to lose and even fewer shames concealed. 
She lifts her face to the rain and loses herself to nature's forces. 
When at last she looks back down; she first sees the ghost horses.

I Bring the Lightning a Song

[pre-chorus]
That flash that stuns your eyes
makes you hold your breath
shiver to your toes
ruins your rest

Thats me, I bring the lightning,
I can start the fire
burning brightly

things can go on for hours

I learned a long time ago
how to set match 
to the tinder
and make things all aglow
dancing crackling cinder

Playing Tag With Thunder

Lightning flashes so brightly outside;
rain's falling fast and furious.
Feeling vibrations in my fingers
jolts loosen the window pane.
Delightful, but frightful, quivers follow.

Mummy shudders, shoulders and head;
Sissy covers up her ears.
I'm deaf, my other senses
eagerly expect something after sparks.
I wait and faces change.

Like a sudden tag game,
I see the brilliant flashes.
Sissy tags me, "You're IT!"
I can guess

The Thunder Rolls

The thunder rolls as the sky flashes bright.
The clouds roll in as the lightning strikes.

The children all tucked in snug in their bed,
as mom walks away, "I'm scared", they all said.

You hear that sound, she says, the thunder rolling,
Do not be afraid, for it's only God and his angels bowling.
