Shock of Lightning

My body jumps as Lightning violently flashes
across the sky and is followed by jolting
thunder that shakes the earth
I dash to my door as huge raindrops begin
to pound the earth and my shaken kitty
runs in as I do into the safety of my house
I take a minute to slow my racing heart
as I admire the power of the storm outside
and feel immensely grateful for the shelter
as the world shakes outside with the power
of the summer thunderstorm
