The pop of the fastball into the catcher’s mitt
The catcher’s snap throw to third
The crack of the bat from a great hit
Snap, crack(le) and pop were part of baseball first
Maybe a serial killer, the crows cawed to each other.
This was agreed upon by the vole and the vole’s mother.
I think he’s just a great horned owl, a good guy, I said.
However, I did not know all the murderous books that he read.
He studied forensics, and he took apart his own pellets.
The books he read pushed diabolical ideas down in his gullets.
He was a cereal killer that simply could not stop.
He devoured all of our Rice Krispies – Snap, Crackle, Pop!
My brother Fred thinks outside the box
Wears red and green polka dot socks
He still collects overpriced pet rocks
Eats bagel holes, no cream cheese or lox
Sister Sue sleeps with the horse in the barn
Her iridescent make-up sets off alarms
She's got a pair of tatooed arms
Among her other diverse charms
Me, I'm the white sheep of the bunch
When I eat, I snap, crackle, crunch
'Course it depends on what I have for lunch
On curried cockroach krispies, I like to munch
nature's rice krispies
kindling wood on the fireplace
~ snap, crackle and pop!
We approached the Hubbard Glacier,
More than seventy miles long,
And we watched it calve and listened
To its snap-pop-crackle song.
As chunks of ice broke free and fell
(That's calving) we could hear
The glacier pop and crackle
Very loud and very clear.
Occasionally, underwater
Pieces broke off, too
And they popped up to the surface
In a burst of white and blue.
They're fondly called "ice krispies,"
Like the cereal whose goal
Is to crackle, snap and pop
When milk is added to the bowl.
It's super cool (no pun intended)
Watching Nature's feats
So I'd rather watch ice krispies
Than consume Rice Krispie Treats!
Snap!
Crackle!
Pop!
in that order
as
the boy’s
ears
listen and flop.
milk dribbles
down
his silver
spoon
as he leans
into my phone.
youtube
for kids —
a
sunrise obsession.
I
pause
his video
so we can pray.
I ask him
what does he taste
and he says “pop.”
I encourage him
to think,
“no, what does it taste like?”
again, he says, “pop”
I say,
“vanilla?”
he says,
“no, chocolate.”
so now the thought’s complete
and his thumb
harpoons
his magical cartoons.
but that’s fine,
for the
temporary engagement
of the mind
might serve
him mightily
after breakfast.

By James Edward Lee Sr
sitting on the porch with a bowl of cookie crisp
reminiscing about the times when everything was cheap
sitting on the porch with a bowl of cap' n crunch
thinking about the times when one radio station was all you needed
sitting on the porch with a bowl of king vitamin
missing arcade rooms and backyard candy stores
sitting on the porch with a bowl of froot loops
wondering what happened to all the smiling colors
sitting on the porch with a bowl of frosted flakes
wanting to go to duff's after church on sunday
sitting on the porch with a bowl of apple jacks
thinking of gary gnu, muffy, grover, and letterman
sitting on the porch with a bowl of rice krispies
fiending for an early episode of the original muppet show
sitting on the porch with some crispy wheats 'n raisins
realizing i overdid it and i'm out of flav o rich
watching movies with you
i hope the rain never stops
surprised we haven't fallen asleep yet
guess we are where we wanna be
we make chocolate chip cookies
we make cinnamon rolls
we make sugar cookies
we make vanilla and oreo shakes
we put in another movie
we pass gas in the name of comfort
watching movies with you
i hope the rain never stops
now we resort to the classics
for once time is being kind to us by discovering its inner snail
we make cake squares
we make lemon drop cookies
we make rice krispies treats
we make vanilla and butterscotch pudding
we put in yet another movie
we again pass gas in the name of comfort
Chirup, Chirupup is now gone away
For the Cricket now sleeps in the deep woods
Deep down under a bed of dry decaying leaves
Awaiting the spring's warmth to call__ come
Out across the now no-fence pasture
Lies a giant pan of Rice Krispies cookies
White on tan the dead crispt grass made so by the cold hoary frost
Chilled so that it groans from the cold penetrating deep within the ground
The whole earth awaits that warm sun who takes his time
Slowly slipping back closer up, up, up to the Northern Hemisphere
Will spring come to renew or will those deep woods remain dark and deep
Inviting all eyes to see inside the open venerable vault of clearing
Those dark deep woods encourage exploring
To clear away all the tangled briars, dead barren ideas that need purging
Open clear up those winter woods for new growth of spring
New ideas on which to encourage the grow of the poetic mind
Been in winter long enough in that cold barren woods
Trapped in the cold lingering by the fire of hearth's contentment
Now is the time to escape_be fresh new
Spring _bring on the novel
Lordy, Lordy,
What a fright!
The Winter’s days,
the glittering nights.
The silver frosted blades of grass
rock candy on a string
icicles on the side porch rail
becoming just the “thing”.
Lordy, Lordy,
What a fright!
The Winter’s days,
the frosted nights.
Snowflake’s dancing everywhere
They seem to have no goal.
The air is full of popping sounds
like Krispies in a bowl.
Lordy, Lordy,
What a fright!
The Winter’s days,
the top hat nights.
It seems are if the Lord’s degreed;
we’re living in His snow globe.
A new man I am!
2 hours dozing....
My brainmatter no longer oatmeal,
More in the consistency of rice krispies
