Her Last Secret

I liked her better when she was old
and on her own.
She hated company, and no one called.
She wasn’t the mother I remembered;
she was better and worse,
as I was.

After her surgery,
she stayed in a nursing home
deteriorating.
Her apartment was sold to pay for her care.

When she died we emptied the place,
there was not much to keep,
no photographs or mementos.
One kitchen cabinet was full of unopened
blood pressure tablets,
hundreds.
She preferred to drink.

If she had confided in me
I would have told her
that despite the warnings,
she could have done both,
like I do,

but we were never that close.

Premium Member To Make a Place Or Room For

What is it like,
to be a broken thing?
A glass,
carelessly chipped
on the edge of
the sink;
a plate
smashed in anger.
To be placed
at the back of
the kitchen cabinet
and forgotten,
or swept out with the
trash on Tuesday.
Careful, we whisper,
ashamed.
I am sharp.
Do not cut yourself
on my jagged edges.
Until one day,
if fortune is kind,
we meet someone
and find,
their edges
fit with ours:
like your hand
in mine.

Premium Member Signs of Summer

In love with coffee mugs!
Better than old smelly wine jugs.

Big ones in the kitchen cabinet.
Waiting for me, shiny' smiking and all set.

Many vibrant colors to for all to enjoy.
To me they are as wonderful as kids new toys.

It's the end of the week....give a big cheer!
Hot here so bets on, folks will be outdoors with
an ice
cold beer.

Kids playing baseball, I hear the call, "Strike One!"
A sure, welcome sign, that summer has begun!

Up In Arms

Another wave of voter vexation
is swamping the shutdown nation

To the left,
the windpipes are hissing
To the right,
the windbags are dissing

And all of the kitchen cabinet aprons
got their middle fingers
pointing up deaf adder listening

Their thumbs down
is the ballot death blow sign:
Telling the weathervane citizens,
the rainy day
slush fund money is missing

The proletariat are up in arms,
so voter vexed ... they’re getting no paychecks

When the last mint cookie crumble,
the murmurers
are gonna misty-eye mumble

The viper sound bytes
are cobra kissing —
Blowing inherit-the-wind
lipstick jinn wishes

Getaway stage right poll exit
says last count call:
the vault money is missing

The proletariat are up in arms,
so voter vexed ... they’re getting no paychecks

To the right,
the windpipes are bursting
To the left,
the windbags are cursing

And all of the kitchen cabinet aprons
got their middle fingers
pointing up to the empty cookie jar

As the latest patriotic wave of voter vexation
is giving wet back hex to a grumbling nation

And the whether vain citizens don’t know which way to turn

Counting Life

the first breath of a second child, the third place in his fourth race while his dad drinks a fifth in their sixth home in his seven-year-long life, knowing only strife, eighth drink of dads, nine grams of coke on the table, ten lashes for losing, eleven years till freedom, twelve pills in the kitchen cabinet, thirteen hours of recovery, fourteen years of depression, fifteen years later and his second child takes his first breath, last chance to stop the loop.

Premium Member Fill It With Light

Build me a home, build it just right
Offer me views, fill it with light

A strong foundation that will hold its weight
Walls and a ceiling that rise to the sky
I know you can do it please won't you try
Rooms expansive now that would be so great
A kitchen cabinet to hold every plate
Yes a big oven to make apple pie

Friends will come visit
our home will be a retreat
The front door left wide open
to welcome each guest
I am sure it will happen
if only you will say yes!

My Snoring Dog

There he is sitting atop my favorite comforter and upon my king-sized beige recliner. He thinks he is the king of the universe, my little dog named Sunny. He often rests there for hours and most days you can't ignore the chain-saw sound coming from the living room. There he is again drifting away into his doggie dreams! ZZZZzzzz.

I sit and ponder what in the world my dog is dreaming of. He is snoring so intently. Is he concentrating in his dreams as he does in real life? Is he preoccupied by a flea on his back side, or rather is he chasing a squirrel up a tree with his wagging tail? Does he dream of reaching the doggie treats on the highest shelf in the kitchen cabinet? Or perhaps he is taking a bubble bath when the queen of the house is off to work? Oh to get into the dreams of my doggie and to just take a quick peek!

I better be more quiet now. I don't want to wake up the king of my recliner!
ZZZZzzz.

Cocktails For One

COCKTAILS FOR ONE

Opening the kitchen cabinet for a morning cocktail, line em up in a row
one two three four five on the counter as the smell of am coffee brews.
Down the hatch they go, five for breakfast, two with lunch, one more
for dinner and two at bed time, three cheers for me whomever I used to be.

rocking

just a few minutes more
almost there
remember our primitive forest
kitchen chairs
chrome trunks
yellow and green tree tops
nesting places for the vultures
always present
always ready to prey

rocking

kitchen cabinet canyons
scarred timbered walls
smooth worn knobs
magic openings
caves for hiding

once again

passing through familiar terrain
approaching tiered rise
the climb we've never finished
Pinto and me
up into air
just for us

rocking

so much ground covered
why does Nurse Vera
always eye me
touch my shoulder

she knows

we're almost there
almost ready to climb
off old pinto
once we're to the top

but

not today
not enough time
group time
pill time
heal time
that's what they call it
healing time

why do they want to heal our dreams Pinto?

Closer To Reach

When you drop something,
Say behind a kitchen cabinet,
Why will the task be easier
If you close your eyes
When you stretch.

After the Lust Is Gone......

When a woman first meets a man,
He thinks she's the greatest invention
since sliced ham,

He adores her physical appearance,
The way she talks, laughs and giggles,
He even savors her fragrance,
There is never any talk of space or
room to wiggle,

Once the relationship becomes consummated,
her faults suddenly become illuminated,
The idiosyncracies he used to find charming,
become uncouth and alarming,

He repels her like a magnet,
and ignores her as if she were
an antiquated kitchen cabinet,

After the lust is gone,
a woman becomes an unnecessary
pawn,
The man no longer feels obligated
to be respectful,
All his negative ways get displayed,
He renounces being bashful,

The man picks the woman apart,
like a bird pecking his food,
Then it becomes clear,
his intentions were not good from the start,
He was just toying with her heart.......

Go...........

glue,next to the butter
the kitchen cabinet cluttered
a moth flutters next to the kitchen light
been there all night
i eat my plate of red beans and rice
