We experienced what, for us, was a bittersweet moment yesterday
at a party for a friend of ours who is about to move away.
Happy for her as she moves back to Baltimore to be a grandma…
but what brings tears to our eyes…
is that she has become a good friend and we’re not ready to say goodbye.
We have shared some happy memories…but we feel a little unprepared….
to deal with the emptiness of the memories we know we could have shared.
We want her to know how happy we are for her
without revealing the endless reasons why….
we will begin to miss her the moment we say goodbye.
And then we realized…there is no reason why…
No reason we could think of…why we have to say goodbye.
Knowing once you love someone…even when you’re apart
you carry paintings of them in your memory…
and pieces of them in your heart.
And so…with no goodbye, no final farewell…
no au revoir…no amen
we gave her a smile and a hug then said…until we meet again.
Leaving the door open…as she’s about to go…
for the next time we will see her…
the next time we say Hello!
My candle it burned at both ends,
It disappeared by mornings light,
Where its warmth and fragrance went,
That is where I'll soon be sent.
My angel she'll descend,
Grandma I'll see you soon,
I'll walk through the front door,
Smell sweet fragrance and feel the warmth.
God will hold me very close,
He'll wipe away my tears,
I'll never feel pain again,
And my angel wings will grow.
THERE GOES THE LOOKING GLASS
There goes the looking glass
It's shattered and yet serene
The queen's out of business
The dwarves look really mean
There's snowy and a mountain
Yet the ride was really long
The apple and the eye drops
Were in tears that said belong
The house was simply empty
With no wolf no cubs and bare
With grandma in the oven and
The twin kids are always there
The live and love was never distant
Yet in the garden one was all alone
With crystal balls and constant calls
Always near and closer to a phone
A goose was gone by morning
And the eggs were in the fry
Yet gold and glean glistened
With an always simply in a try
Then the story turns to ashes
Yet a magic steals the shown
In a queen who saw a vision
Of just two or three to know
So, the capture for the moment
Is in a picture that's not a tale
In a fable that was not so funny
In an ending of a happy or a well
Yet it's jack be quick who listens
With all the candles and no flame
Simply for the reason in a many
Yet just two or three to name
Grandma and I use to run across the shore.
Building sandcastles,
collecting seashells wedged in the deep sand.
Many times we watch the waves hit the shore,
other times we leave our marks on the slushy sand.
Grandma usually covers me in the sand and keeps me toasty.
But now those days are over,
I wonder where you are.
We always took the time writing letters to each other,
but I never heard from you ever since.
Rumors whispered and passed on from village to village,
saying that my grandma was gone.
She is probably in a good place now,
but I never had a chance to say goodbye.
Grandma’s Rules
There’s a reason why grandma tells you to grab a kitchen towel and dust off the table:
You don’t know when company com’n’
And when they plan on moving in
There’s a reason why grandma wants her girl to know how to cook, clean, sew and iron
She doesn’t want her to go hungry nor act out of desperation
There’s a reason why grandma tells you about her struggle
She sees a greater tomorrow
There’s a reason why grandma tells you to finish your vegetables
Junk food is the devil
There’s a reason why grandma tells you to read the Bible and to recite a verse before heading out the door
Dead or alive, God is by your side
There’s a reason why grandma tells you to say ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’
She wants you to have some school‘ n and good home training
Even if it takes some good home whipp’n

The last time I saw my grandma
She brought me gorgeous red material for a new blouse.
She always knew what to bring.
She did not come often, but when she did, we were happy.
She was my grandma, and I adored her.
I would have given her a lot more attention that day,
If I had known it was the last time I would see her,
And a much longer hug.
I probably would not have left her side,
Actually.
ONE, NINE AND SIXTEEN
The sewing machine, long idle, gathered dust
For Grandma, this machine was a must
She would work long into the night
Making sure each stitch turned out right
The clothes she made, we were proud to wear
Not ashamed to be seen anywhere
Then one day, tragedy struck from afar
And many of our men marched off to war
The war years seemed like only yesterday
Countless lives were lost along the way
The lives that kept America free
From peril of those across the sea
Then one day, tragedy struck again
Grandma died .... our closest friend
Gone from us, the brightest spark
The candle sputtered, spent, and all was dark

I would like to hold your hand one more time,
I would like to have your hands on me,
I would dream of your kisses each day,
The strongest are left to face the wind of life blowing on your face,
All that I can do at the moment is look at the Heavens,
Hoping that your doing the same when you see me on earth.
Nothing is ever the same,
I miss you sana Grandma,
I hope your singing with the angels,
Each day is a blessing and I'll live it till the sun sets.
Know that wherever you are, your in my mind.
Your prayers kept me going,
Your prayers gave me the protection I needed.
I thank God for the time He gave me to share with you.
Till we meet at the crossroads,
As for know I take a step each day with each blessing given to me.

Grandma's girl would take care of her,
They were always concur,
The girl was filled with her Grandma's love,
Always putting her grandma above,
They would take care of each other,
Always loving one another,
Until that unfortunate fateful day,
Where her Grandma passed away,
The girl cried and cried,
She tried to deny,
That her precious friend,
Was no longer there to portend,
Grandma's girl finally realized,
That it was finalized,
That her precious friend,
Had to descend,
Down in the ground,
But the little girl found,
Her Grandma's still alive,
But inside the girl thrived,
Her Grandma's spirit,
That the little girl never forgot
Loving Grandparents
I've seen more faces of parental love
As a child I heard folk lore from grandma
Often I lay calm in her elbow's cove
Night pressed her feet swollen with oedema
And in the noon we would hide in a room
With a binoculars to watch the birds
Collecting twigs for nesting babes in womb
Grandma was fun and all requests were heard
Grandpa moved around with his wailking stick
We took care of him on his pious bed
Didn't know he was dying thought him sick
In the middle of night goodbye he said
We hugged and cried at our world that collapsed.
New homes we were flown to, our ties just snapped

( I write this with a heavy heart.......My grandma (My dad's mommma)passed away on June 14........ it has been hard dealing with all the emotions that come with losing someone close to you......... But making this poem helped greatly with my pain and the pain of her Daughter (My aunt) and her son(My dad).....Losing someone really hurts but putting this poem Up is the first step to moving on.........
Debbie Sue (Alexander) Christian may be gone but she will never be forgotten)
The Lord giveth, The Lord taketh away,
Somehow, Someway God gives us the strength
When we don't know what to say.
But when one's time has come,
When one's life has passed on,
We must find it from within ........to move on.
We know a special place for them will be held in our hearts Forever
I stepped out into th Monday morning rain,
'Cause where else can she be,
But in th rain;
But on my skin.
I'm at ease,
I'm home,
Where my heart is.
She's at ease,
She's home,
Where her heart is.
Always will be,
Evermore with me.
My pain,
Like th rain,
Comes to a drizzle
But my love,
Like her love,
Goes on forever.
I look'd out into th Monday morning rain,
'Cause where else can I find myself-
But in th rain,
Under my skin;
I'm at ease.
There's not much to say.
I knew her, know some things,
but certainly not all.
I know how little she put up with fools,
how her cooking surpassed so many others',
how simultaneously sweet and hard she could be.
I know about her smoking,
about her jewelry, her faith,
all these I'll hold close to me.
Every single spark, every star,
shines with such a glow, such a marvelous radiance,
that we can't gaze too closely at it,
lest we cause ourselves pain.
And yet, despite ourselves, again and again,
we do;
because it's not within us to resist
the sheer beauty of it all,
of stories and of life.
A bouquet of tulips for you.
We all miss you already, Grandma.
I miss you.
I know Heaven's got you, taking no guff as always,
making sure we're all doing alright.
I love you.

This is for my grandma. She only has a few more weeks and I can't find any other way to put my feelings than this.
Heaven wants another angel tonight.
You feel that you lost, but you won this fight.
No pain or sorrow can keep you apart,
From what we think is the end but is really just the start.
I’ll miss you but let your heart be free.
The shadow of your presence I’ll feel in my sleep.
You’ll spend some time in a world above the sky,
While I’m the ground hearing echoes of goodbyes.
But we’ll meet again so soon,
I’ll see you in the light of the moon.
We’ll tell each other stories forever,
About the marvelous things we saw in the times not together.
I know heaven won’t wait for goodbyes,
But I love you,
And for now this is mine.
