One, Nine, and Sixteen

ONE, NINE AND SIXTEEN

The sewing machine, long idle, gathered dust
For Grandma, this machine was a must
She would work long into the night
Making sure each stitch turned out right

The clothes she made, we were proud to wear
Not ashamed to be seen anywhere
Then one day, tragedy struck from afar
And many of our men marched off to war

The war years seemed like only yesterday
Countless lives were lost along the way
The lives that kept America free
From peril of those across the sea

Then one day, tragedy struck again
Grandma died  ....  our closest friend
Gone from us, the brightest spark
The candle sputtered, spent, and all was dark

I agree, many will perhaps follow this same pattern as seen in my poem. In essence, I hope they do simply to show how much they loved their family member and their country.
