dry clouds float
sun blocked off and on....
weep day away
nonstop cicadas chirp
cloudy moonlit night
summoning rain to dry land
It is so hot and dry
feel like I gonna die
Can't go out, live inside
open the door and you fry
Rain drops burn before they hit the ground
long gone green grass it all turn brown
Flowers welt droop and die
stay with AC hibernate inside
It is so hot and dry
been a week of a hundred and five
No rain in the forecast such a long time
this penetrating heat feels like a crime
Heat so bad it burns the shade
hot dry for the summer to stay
Drink ice water but cubes melt
this blasted heat no relief or help
Sweaty sleep with fans on
dreaming of freezing winter long
Could use the cold on a hot day
all I can do is dream the hot away.
Pen pressed against page,
image drought, verse famine, cage,
of dry well syndrome, vacuum,
lack of glowing term,
blighted crop, devoid of germ,
words I sculpt mere gaunt legume
Impetus, spark, boost,
urban mirror where plots roost,
spawn from pillar, striking plinth,
futile quest struck dumb,
barren bard whose face is glum,
yet they bay for gemstone glint
Just for a day I'd hide the clock,
And in my bamboo rocking chair,
I’d gently rock and rock,
I’d pay no mind to what others might have to say.
Each minute of this day, I'd do things
in my own way.
I wouldn’t take or make a single call,
I'd turn my phone off and leave it way
down the hall,
I'd go back to an old-fashioned way,
Writing letters to convey what I had to say.
I'd feed the koi in the garden pond.
And watch them dance and play.
Beside the jasmine blooms, upon the
soft grass, I’d lie,
With eyes closed I’d make a wish for chaos to pass me by.
Chaos would never say goodbye and
so I mustn’t delay,
Just for a day I would take back
freedom, come what may.
I’d gather the dreams silently waiting
by the doorway,
And never postpone enjoyment
for a far-off day.
And from the great, big blue sky,
I’d grab my piece of blue before
the pond runs dry.

Too hot.
outside.
Fry egg,
sidewalk.
Big hawk,
dry mouth.
Yes rains
coming.
How hot,
too hot.
Fall is,
waiting.
Hooray!!!
The squeaking trees
swayed back and forth
through the night
whining and aching
limbs snapping
and wind blowing
the structural wood failure
a tree begins to sway in the wind
typically a low deep groan
or creak followed by a sharp
pop and snap and ping
when the fibers began to
unravel and slit
the stresses of tension and shear
the fibers start to crack
the high pitched tearing or
ripping sounds
where fibers are being pulled apart
and fibers are sliding past one another

Time without you here depresses me so.
Branches hang like ribs of an old shipwreck.
I walk through a quiet wood, calling your name.
Only a dry wind answers, rattling the dead leaves.
The path looks identical when not at the end of it.
I look at my hands and fail to recognize the skin.
The ground beneath me feels like it might give way.
I am a shadow cast by nothing at all.
If you are nowhere, then this is my only home.
I’ll remain until darkness envelops my outline.
