Sleep Paralysis

The sleep demon
Comes by in the evening
When you should be dreaming
So why are you screaming?

You drift off to sleep
You start to feel weak
But then you can’t speak
Not even a squeak

A shadow appears
It wakes up your fears
It’s a fear that you recognize
It leaves your body paralyzed

No you can’t scream
you’re dead silent
You feel the weight
Of an invisible giant

It grabs you by the soul
Don’t let it take you whole
You’ve gotta fight it back
Before it fades to black

Because the sleep demon
Comes by in the evening
When you should be dreaming
So why are you screaming?

"The pen must go where the pen wants to go. Today it went down Heartbroken Lane." By Poet

The day came in with a great start
but is going out with a broken part.
With a child's loving and young heart,
it must take a very painful dart.
today I lost my furry best friend,
in life guess some things have to end.
Her soft cream and tan colored fur,
would make me really want to purr.
The day we got her from the pound,
was all smiles and never a frown.
My little heart filled with smiles and love,
I knew she was from heaven above.
A saved rescue pet she would be,
wearing a halo for all to see.
Mommy made car riding so real,
it was always a big fun deal.
Night time we would drift off to sleep,
morning from the bed we would leap.
For a child death is always so cold,
our good times I will forever behold.
Now Angel is gone to heaven to wait,
rainbow bridge crossing has no date.

Premium MemberThe Rustling Leaves

Amber, crimson, golden light,
A painter's dream, a wondrous sight.
The autumn wind, a whispered song,
Where rustling leaves all dance along.

The Equinox, a fleeting spell,
Its blessings cast, its stories tell.
In fleeting hues, the trees bestow,
A fleeting fire before the snow.

The branches shed their summer’s past,
And weave a quilt so rich, so vast.
A tapestry upon the ground,
Where nature’s colors bloom unbound.

Soft footsteps crunch the season’s gift,
As children leap and laughter lifts.
They chase the breeze in wild delight,
While leaves swirl golden in their flight.

A symphony of rustling sound,
A fleeting beauty, so profound.
Each leaf a note, a whispered cheer,
That marks the passing of the year.

The trees may bare their souls to frost,
Yet never is their splendor lost.
For in this blaze, so brief yet bright,
Lives Autumn’s grace, its last respite.

And when the morning sky turns gray,
The leaves remain where once they lay.
A golden sea in slumber deep,
Where autumn’s dreams drift off to sleep.

Premium MemberIn this lonely old room

I drift off to sleep,
As I walk to the beach,
I see the glow of the moon.
What a beautiful sight,
When I dream in this lonely old room.
This room of white,
Not a soul nearby,
Only nurses who roam the halls.
This room of white,
Almost like a tomb.
Oh, my dreams,
The place I yearn for,
My true love is Italy.
Yet I look out the window, and
All I see is the doom.
I'm still here,
But maybe soon,
I'll be outside the cafe,
In the old country, we call Italy.
The place I've always dreamed of going,
So, meet me at high noon,
I'll save you a seat.
This is what I dream of,
In this lonely old room.

Premium MemberMemento on the Moon

The Sea of Tranquility gives rise to a parasitic plague,
Colonizing mechanical machines grinding,
Robotic arms frantically fabricating an inhospitable habitat.
Plumes of blackened smoke drift off into zero gravity—
A profuse profanity birthing intergalactic implosions.
Forfeited steel domes replace a once-pristine satellite,
Whilst humanity, like vultures, journeys to their new paradise,
Foaming at the mouth to exploit the dark side of the moon.
Looking outside the frosted rocket's windows,
Earth's decaying corpse is nothing but a mere memento mori in the rearview window.

The Thunder Rolls

The thunder rolls as the sky flashes bright.
The clouds roll in as the lightning strikes.

The children all tucked in snug in their bed,
as mom walks away, "I'm scared", they all said.

You hear that sound, she says, the thunder rolling,
Do not be afraid, for it's only God and his angels bowling.

But the lightning, they cry, it's just so bright.
Oh that lightning, she says, means God has bowled a strike!

It's a fun game to watch and listen to,
you see God and his angels like to have fun too.

Let's lay here for a while, just listen to the rumble.
I bet when God plays, he is very humble.

Let's count all the strikes when they light up the sky.
Tell me, little ones, who can count that high?

One big rumble, one loud strike,
as rain rolls in and fills the night.

As we lay there counting one strike, two,
the worry passes from each of you.

Slowly they drift off, peacefully rest.
If in your dreams you bowl with God, remember my loves, just give it your best.

Tiny Home

Wind outside my tiny home, wreaking chaos on its porch
Wicker chairs and potted plants, stand firmly against its force
Finely tuned chimes sound loudly, sending sweetly toned notes into the night
A candle I’ve lit flickers, with the flow of cool currents through aging wooden panes
As the warm glow from the fire, now comforting, fends off the chill from a cool springtime rain
Tuxedo cats hardly notice a thing, intertwined into something resembling a fine sable
Opening one eye on occasion, then quickly returning to twilight
The fire logs let out a soft sounding hiss, as they shrink into hot glowing embers
Fixing my gaze towards its vibrant colors. Comforting, Hypnotic
Drift off to sleep with sounds of a storm. Who’s sharp pitches and tones
Guiding me gently like binaural beats and theta waves
Into another state, created by conscious choice. A world of making all my own

Premium MemberThe best you can be

Where the railroad tracks bend,
as night gave way to dawn,
lonely short pines and sage bough'd low,
wind singing in morning dew' song.

Her words drift off in echo'd calamity
warmth lost in a familiar revelry
still see fit to say, please stay..
try your best and don't forget
you'll always belong to me.

Way up in darkest blue,
lone somber plane flies on
leaving a trailing taunt.

Loved by one who knew
what it meant bein' strong,
and what it is to be lonely
in strength..
with a heart kept at bay
and always at arm's length.

Her words echo ever on
like ripples in a pond..
go on.

Live your dreams
just as I promise to
be the best you can be..
just not with me.

By The Light Of The Moon

I sometimes sit awake at night
unsure what I should do,
swimming through my thoughts
yeah, all the worries of the day.
I guess I like the solitude,
although I’m feeling blue
there in the quiet moonlight
softly, God opens the way.

In dim of night he reassures,
a peace rests in the air.
The things I want to worry of,
they simply melt away,
replaced by visions of what most times
I am unaware.
It makes me want transcend time
and in that moment stay.

But soon it’s time for sleep,
in parting, God assures one thing -
that amidst all the toil and strife
he’ll be returning soon.
I drift off without care of what
the next day’s going bring,
blessed by what I felt and learned…
by the light of the moon.

Premium MemberI Like Your Dog

I Like Your Dog

I like your dog, the one that you got.
I like him because he is here and I’m not.
I like that whenever you give him a bone.
You’ve someone to share with; not eating alone.

I like that you call him a nickname of mine.
I like that he answers it every time.
I like that he’s with you whenever you weep,
And snuggles up close as you drift off to sleep.

I like that he cares for you, just as I would.
I like that he’s constantly faithful and good.
I like that he’s dopey and generates laughter
His silliness making you chuckle long after.

I like that your dog’s a reminder of us.
I’d like to be present when you give him a fuss.
I like that he’s at your side every day,
So though I can’t be there, I know you’re okay.

Slumber's Sweet Embrace

Beside the one you love, you lay your head
A haven of peace, where hearts are wed
The world outside fades, as darkness falls
Together you sleep, through life's joyful calls

Research whispers secrets, of a love so true
Sleeping together, reduces depression's hue
A longer life unfolds, like a blooming flower
As love's warm touch, calms each passing hour

Drift off to dreamland, with a peaceful sigh
Falling asleep faster, with love by your side
The world may be chaotic, but in this quiet space
Love's gentle embrace, brings a smile to your face

So cherish these moments, of slumber deep
With the one you love, in a peaceful sleep
For in each other's arms, you'll find a love so strong
A bond that lasts, all life long.

Premium MemberEtched In Stone

Quote By Poet: "Tears are rain from the eyes."

As your daughter,
your love is etched in my heart.
The dad who took the time,
to help me with homework.
Many wonderful memories drift off,
to a great man and dad.
Now your death,
is etched In stone.

Line of Inquiry:

"free from conditional belief
no agenda on our shelf
vibrant as the light of self
life flows on all by itself"

                           Unseeking Seeker

I have always since a young girl been a free thinker,
listening but honoring my beliefs;
yes, other peoples opinions and views still linger,
but mostly, I just let them drift off like fallen leafs.

I do like a good debate back and forth to a point,
can calmly state my opinion to all;
and always respect another persons viewpoint,
but, lets be clear for no one will I crawl.

If you do not agree with me I have no agenda,
for revenge or to make you change;
I will keep my beliefs and walk away by surrender,
even if you think I am very strange.

I am a peaceful girl and believe in self,
and there is a burning light within me;
my father taught me to believe in myself,
and I feel his life force flowing and it sets me free.

Nestled in Dreams

Hush now, my little one, close your eyes
And drift off to sleep, under starry skies
Let your dreams take you to faraway lands
Where the sun always shines, and the sea is like glass

The flowers are blooming, the birds always sing
The fairies are dancing on gossamer wings
The world is so magic in this fairyland place
And you can be anything, what a wonderful space

So close your eyes tightly, as I sing you to sleep
I'll watch over you, my little one, my sweet
In this lullaby dreamland of love and of light
My darling child, everything will be alright

Hush now, my little one, let your troubles fade away
As you drift off to sleep in this enchanted bay
Just remember that I'm here for you, always by your side
As we journey together through the night, in our dreams we'll abide

So rest now, my little one, in peaceful slumber deep
For tomorrow's another day full of wonder and sleep

Premium MemberNew Year's Goal Caged

ONE Only New Years Goal for 2025 Poetry Contest
Constance La France

As we springboard into another year, I want to dive in, make a big splash, and come to the surface with a big smile on my face. For me, this will be a first ... if I can submit for a whole year. I want to lose the albatross around my waist. In preceding years I had that ugly bird caged for the first three weeks and then he escaped. For three weeks everything is tailored. I'm counting calories, running, and doing yoga. Everything is in check. The jaybird in me is singing, especially when I see the mirror. Then like Connie's work or clockwork, I fall to the chagrin of that ugly bird. Every year I'm a three-week whirlwind then become a drift. I drift off. Some crises, dramas, or love stories take center stage, and I lose focus. I fall. The curtains are then drawn. And I recoil back into my unhealthy ways, like a lollipop. And the feather one is laughing. Can I gather the willpower this time and surprise that ugly bird?

big bird go away
please stop clinging on to me
it doesn't look nice
