Premium MemberDorian Gray - A Triple Entendre

The painting showed his perfect beauty,
for that kept he'd sell his soul
and cast aside his Godly duties
to pursue his evil goals.

The devil works in tempting lies
waiting for the weak of mind
and for righteous acts denied
would further grasp one of his kind.

With every evil deed Gray stays
adorned with handsome youthful looks,
while his painting shows decay -
reveals the slash of Satin's hooks.

"Let the painting age, not me -
no sins, no doubts, and no regrets;
I'll live my life just as I please;
no conscience pleading to forget".

Yet in despair he could not bear
to see the picture of his soul,
now old and ugly, he would tear
with plunge of dagger sharp and cold.

Screams of pain shot down the lane
as Mr. Gray fell to the floor,
and the maid was thought insane
when she described just what she saw.

On the floor, a monster dead
with dagger deep within his chest,
yet there upon the wall she said,
"Pictured beauty at its best."

Inspired by The Picture of Dorian Gray
the only novel ever published by Oscar Wilde
(Also a mirror of his own conscience)

Premium MemberDorian Gray Revisited

If (I / you) were to observe (myself / yourself),
Would (I / You) really know (myself / yourself)?

-----------------------------------------------

We prosper but we also strain -
This "Game of Life" is that refrain.
It carries on from day-to-day
And we stay steadfast in the fray

Playing our roles up to the hilt,
Life's psycho-social endless tilt -
Casting our lots on roulette's wheel,
Love's psycho-analytic deal.

Gazing into the mirror's face
It's who we are in that embrace.
It's what and why we can't explain -
Our Egos whitewash loss and gain.

We strive to find identity
And picture what we'd hope to be.
At times we feel it's all for naught
When falling short from what we've sought.

Stagnating in complacency
We hold on most tenaciously
To limits of expectancy
For what we'll suffer change to be.

Our portraits in the attic wait
To frame the essence of our fate.
The chronicle of life is great
And Truth, through time, applies the paint.

Most will be shown with minor flaws -
Some, as affronts to norms and laws
But all, one day, will be displayed;
How will your likeness be portrayed?

A Pox On Dorian Gray

The artist may tarnish,
but his art remains clean
His intention stays ageless,
his wishes pristine

Though rust covers over
what’s harder to see
The base is still there
—and the spirit still free

Premium MemberBuccaneering Dorian

Like wild buccaneers
on a partying raid,
they came ashore.
Fierce waters and winds
wielding their destructive swords
grabbing defenceless trees by the necks:
viciously shaking their hair-like foliage heads;
bending their backs; snatching them up
and throwing them here and there.

With torrential forces,
the marauding buccaneering
waters and winds leveled mortared
and boarded constructions
as if they were thatched huts of shade.
Young and old beings
became like unripe and ripened fruits
consumed by the ravaging forces of nature.
Behind, lay skeletal fields and sandy shores
laden with rampaged debris.

Satisfied with the fun and booty,
the buccaneering twins
return to their seafaring sails
in search of more up roaring.
Meanwhile, the prodigal Sun returns,
reflecting dry salty tears
pasted on the faces of those
who must now iron out their wrinkled lives.
In the aftermath, Nature makes no apologies
and God can’t be cursed.

The Path of Dorian

O' the case of Dorian
progressing through the sea,
battering the Bahamas
then shifting to a "three",
Have you seen the damage caused,
how islands lie in rubble?
Property and lives were lost
resulting from your trouble!

Now we wait so anxiously
to know the fullest measure
of this great calamity
ending in displeasure.
Soon will come the future day
when hurricanes desist.
Dorian, I'm pleased to say,
you will not be missed.

Premium MemberThe Color Red

quiet silence
the continuation
of smothered thoughts

gaging howling winds
beyond an understanding
spoken in braille

ignoring order
colors forming to the right
Dorian Gray

a corrupted mind
kills with passionate pleasure
what virtue remains

quiet silence
the continuation
death resides below

await the reaper
dark—black chilling specter
ghoul in residence

awake—blood freezes
nightmares for the young and old
dawn draws the bright sun

tomorrow we will
paint another painting
less the color red

~ Journey Of The Soul ~
( Dorian 5 x 5 Linked)

There's always love, hope
Hope and there's light
Light to guide thru night
Night and don't lose sight
Sight with Lord can cope

Cope as seasons go
Go each single year, day
Day with Lord can hope
Hope lives through God, love
Love from God just flows.

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV)

-“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (NIV)

- Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer
Romans 12: 12 ( NIV )

-The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”
 Exodus 14: 13 ( NIV )

“Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”
- Mark Twain-

Winter Dorian 42 Style

Winter is the time of year
ice prevails before the sun,
not at all when people should
try out races now begun.
Extol virtues of nature,
run, life's race must now be run

Dorian,
In your poem Summer you disallowed comment so no one could mention the second line is grammatically incorrect. It should read..
Umm, temperature just soars!
or
Umm, temperatures just soar!

~Summer~
(Dorian 42)

Summer is fun, seasons hot
Umm, temperature just soar!
Moving 'round, is kind of hard
Makes one tired and rains some more
End of summer brings next fall
Rays from sun most folks adore.

Thanks, But No Thanks, Dorian Gray

Dorian Gray came to me the other day
Offered to trade his portarit with one of mine
I politely refused and had this to say
Thank you, but I already have one that's fine

Everyday I do something really vile
It stares back at me with a most ugly face
Evil thoughts and deeds my mien with scars defile
Thank you, but my mirror does my conscience trace
