The Cat
the truth I do not stretch or shove
the haughty cat looks down from above.
she struts about with nose held high,
and glares at me with disdainful eye.

The truth may be a cracked mirror, changing at every angle,
pleasure diminishes with time, yet the sun also rises.
Time spent in self-pity is meaningless, a flight of numbness
disdainful of clinging to the hope the sun also rises.
There may be ripples on the dark surface of waters in storms
but savoring these moments purifies when the sun rises
Ideals become dented and rusty like suits of armor
summer light softens the edges of things as the sun rises.
I will not tremble in panic watching my shadow detour
elsewhere out of my mind, but wait till the sun also rises.

the woman’s opulence did not mean she would be haughty and uptight
some wealthy people are not rude, selfish and snotty
I decided to give the woman a fair chance
She talked down to me as if I was a worm crawling out of an alley
That must have been an accident
I gave her another chance
She made a snide remark about my background
Which she does not know
Her disdainful smile would have been impossible to miss
Even if I could have ignored her supercilious attitude
and her rude words
“was she kind?” my grandmother asked me.
“You will have to find out for yourself,” I told her.
Within minutes of their conversation I saw my grandmother pop her eyes.
We left right away, for we had come up with the same conclusion
This snob was not worth our time.

Tomorrow is not in our hands,
Today is an opportunity room,
Listen to the voice that speaks,
Today awaits our seeds.
Youth is a two-sided coin,
Bloom to the diligent, dutiful and restrained,
A gloom to the recalcitrant, obstinate and the disdainful,
Tell the young at heart,
Some may heed.
Tomorrow is a door,
Today is a time to make a difference,
Show someone the way,
Guide that feet out of the night,
Hold that hand to redemption land,
They may write an eternal ode about you.
Embrace today,
Walk through its path,
Fight its monsters,
Tomorrow embraces the unyielding.

In this land of rhymes, both wild and rare,
here comes a tale I’ll weave with care.
It’s for those who’ve earned disdainful thoughts,
for actions unkind and deceitful plots.
Feed them peanuts! Oh, hear my words,
then flush them down like pungent turds.
Let’s raise our hands, a sign for all,
and let that birdy stand nice and tall.
Feed them peanuts! A gesture grand,
let’s show them love and where we stand.
On this bunch let’s shed some light,
then with their fluff they can take flight.
Oh, in this land where tales unfold,
the beautiful people write words of gold.
In ivory towers they spin and sit,
then silently enjoy my words of wit.

Light skin, fair skin
All clamoured for by
Creams to the rescue
Fading creams, toning creams
All bleaching creams
Women and men, old and young
all clamouring for light skin.
Looks enhancers
creams a dozen to a penny
Melanin, so disdainful
Ebony black frowned upon;
Beauty markers haven chosen.
Women and men, old and young
All allured to the illusion that;
that beauty is in faded skin
that beauty is in toned skin
that beauty is all bleaching
Creams a dozen to a penny
Enmity with melanin;
Alas the elbows,
the knuckles and
the ankles all but
refuse to bow; shaming the rest
of the body
Patches here and there;
Skin colours so unreal.
Colour and beauty tip gone astray;
Under skin in a state of agony
Damage done is a done deal.
Real beauty is natural
Ebony skin can't be faked
Light skin is Society's call.

Arrogant parrot with disdainful eye
Beloved pet of a seafaring man
Beautiful colours that would make you sigh
Bird's jaded vision the whole room does scan.
Tropical bird quite spoilt by his owner
Colourful language much like his feathers
Truth to tell I think he is bipolar
Stuck on his perch through all kinds of weather.
He dances with rage spitting out his nuts
fluttering feathers create a small storm
His perch madly swaying he's such a klutz
Sad to say he is too old to reform.
Seafaring man quite enjoys birds outrage
Perched on his shoulder bad temper assuaged

disdainful beautiful bird
marvellous to watch
king of his domain
iridescent arrogance
breathless I'm In awe
crested feathered crown
stunning fan tail on display
flawless perfection

Corrupt farm, disdainful politics
Corrupt farm, unedifying ethics
The Lion gorges the subservient animals but not grass page
Or even does he gobble other feeds in the forest sage
The pronghorns fight it hard to progress
And they feed with apprehension and distress.
When they do require of the Lion—
To give a good reason why he devours them like any minion,
He reminds them of being "The King of the Jungle"
So he continues his diabolical project as a noble.
The grass and fowls of the air remain spared
'Cause no, not sufficient antelopes to make them seared.
The foreign vipers intrude awry
With an acclamation of being their profound territory
But they have come with the interest of politics
Dirty politics!
So they play it well, even more than the crown himself.
These adders bite the innocent beasts of their treasures to will of self.
With the injection of putridity and selfishness
Their anchor of theft and greediness.
Corruption drinks poverty!
All because of a bad conductor of no hearty.

Draw the curtains
Dim the light
Get settled down
For this long winter night
Almost dozing In my chair
A sleeping cat on my knee
Feeling warm and content
A pleasant place to be.
A fire in the grate
A red hot ember bed
Before which my lady sits
Toasting crusty bread
An old fashioned fork
Holds the speared slices down
Which the embers very quickly
Turn a shade of golden brown
A buttered toast and coffee supper
The toast spread with marmalade
One of those special snacks
Hot, tasty,simple, homemade.
The cat stretches and grumbles
As I reach for my treats
Not the sort of thing any
Self respecting cat eats.
With a disdainful air
She leaps to,the floor
Haughtily strides away
Knee not needed anymore
When I’ve grovelled sufficiently
I’ll in time be forgiven and then
I’m sure she’ll condescend
To occupy my knee again
Its a scene repeated nightly
And I’m getting used to that
It’s hell being appointed human
To the disdainful resident cat.

I see the inequities
and the disdainful disparities
I see your struggles
and the testy tussles
I see your falls
and the slow crawls
I see your steady climb
through all the slimy grime
I see your perseverance
through all the encumbrances
I see your calm
through the storms
I'm omnipresent
I'm omnipotent
I'm omniscient
I'm everywhere
I'm all-powerful
I'm all-knowing
I see, so have no fear
my faithful servant, I am here
I've been preparing you,
so remain steadfast and get
ready for anew

Images of middle ages and emperors rough and bold,
dwellings in mountain valleys centuries old.
In the court yard of the castle there sat the poet,
rhyming for the landlord all praises know to suit.
His living grace depend on his applause,
coins in silky parchments and its cause.
Honoring that curious nature to explore,
happy that he knows no more.
A bored and bold lady of state attend,
witty wrapped to passion decadent.
To mock the poets ambition as useless toil,
her charm and etiquette in disdainful smile.
Attentions and all its trophies praise,
critics and fretted faults from face to face.
The prophet rich with spoils from the celestial serene,
many flowers in dew born to blush unseen.
The lady and her maiden in mingled measure,
how to tenderize that secret dome of pleasure.
The banquet in full swing under full moon prime,
vain and conspiracies amid the boundless main.
Ladies and nectars of amnesia in full amour of delusion,
the wise man in sober wait, giving the lords conclusion.
‘The mortal eye in easy come bliss,
denying magical natures eternal kiss’.

Like many, I masqueraded in shades of urban gray.
I offered my love to the midnight neon angel.
I walked the caliginous streets alone and astray.
She remained distant, alluring, always disdainful.
I courted cynicism, resignation, and despair as my style.
I wore tilted fedoras in smoke-filled reeking bars.
I feigned culture and literacy, trying to look worthwhile.
I blush now, recalling my see-through shooting stars.
Like many, I was just a child renting a man’s body.
I impersonated adulthood with stylized gloom.
I thought maturity was an act, so mine was shoddy.
I donned trench coats, my affectation in any room.
My blinking street angel had seen it all before.
My love for her was simulation and nothing more.

Rich colors of amber and gold
Memories that never turn old
Nature’s caress surrounding me
Images brought alive with a plea
Whispers of kindness embracing
Love’s gentleness I’m surely facing
Intimacy touches my heart’s mystery
Reminding me of the love in my history
Shelter from all that brings strife
Chance to know hope in this life
Refuge from harm across the ridges
Discovering a gentle flow beneath bridges
Sweet haven of hope sent to my heart
Where God and I will never be apart
This preserve from all that is painful
Bringing nothing of anything disdainful
Mountains bring me the greatest sanctuary
Asylum that keeps me from the adversary
Protection from all that is beyond control
The worries and despair inside a loophole
This safe place where I can pray to my Father
Reminds me that I am not just an awful bother
I reach to heaven with my penned words
Where nouns and verbs fly like the birds
Intimate thoughts dance to the angel’s song
Encouraging my heart to always remain strong
