Along the Broken Avenue

The town, ripped up like a carpet—flung to the side like a broken leg. In its scar the soldiers marched. Chanted for a ruler who ate in his highchair while he penned in their death warrants. Overhead birds of death floated, their naked beaks dying for flesh. It’s cold, so cold a little brown mole

When All Is Said and Done

She lost her home
She lost her ‘stuff’
She lost heart – but was still tough.

When all was said and done,
She reached out to the Son -
She knew some tears and fears
But love would sing into her ears.
While night seemed so hard,
Hope shined through her lifeguard.

The Wide Devastation

Long after the lively spring came quite early...
every narrow hill's path laid in solemn tranquility,
faint footprints on solid ground under black booths
smeared with stains by damaged, leaking roofs.

It took longer to reach the hilltop being forced to halt
before a fallen tree toppled down by the hurricane Milton:

Tears keep falling,

Empty Swing Swings

The empty swing
swings gently
in the gentle
breeze that wafts
across the empty
playground park.
The dust in the foot-pans 
beneath the swings
lifts up in the breeze,
swirls and curls in

The town has all but died.
A tardy few die-hard's remain,
as they have no where else to go.
The salty groundwater,
which rose up in the soil
due to over zealous irrigation,

Cesspit

Cesspit 
The  shovelling soldiers are sent off to war
To dig latrines so their soldier brethren can 
Not in peace but to empty their guts between fights
Ukrainians have other ideas they want to kill them all
Dead soldiers and hole diggers means more Russians
Who can no longer fight or hurt innocent Ukrainians

Devastation Arrived With a Fury

she announces herself days ahead
yet none of us are prepared
she tears us up and spits us out
uncaringly smashes and bashes us
our lives will never be the same
none of us were prepared
even those who thought they were
devastation arrived with a fury and a flurry

Landfall Devastation

air depression in ocean
thick cloud sucked by low pressure…
moisture billows up

hurricane is born
eye follows blindly the track …
land lacerated by fall

storm surge flattens things on way
flood drowns the ruins…
devastation batters lives
