Those two dates were the greatest in my life,
Until you decided our chemistry was a lie.
Those two dates lead to a period of strife
In which you eventually made me cry.

Those two dates were of so much value,
Until you decided what we have can just die.

Dates

Heat of summer sun makes dry dates ripe
sweet delicious like honey type

Names, dates, birthdays

They don't know my name.

 I keep it hidden between the folds of my skirt. They told me I had to wear it but they don't like that they can't see my legs anymore. I keep it hidden in the bows holding my pigtails together.

Leeza and Santa

I heard the door open. It was Leeza (Lisa’s 14-year-old sister),
she’d been out on a date. I was the only one in the living room
as she came in and sagged, dejectedly onto the huge, white
sectional couch, right next to me. She looked positively
deflated. Which is unusual because up until now,
she’s been all freckles and smiles

We get to see you rise, step on the cold floor
When the clock strikes five in the dark.
Your cell goes gaga over nothing, you lie
next to our lot, begging attention.

Over the sill shows up, your sleep spent,

Certain Dates

Certain dates we don’t forget
For it is automatic
To think about events which
In our lives were quite traumatic.

November twenty-second and
Eleventh of September
Are dates my generation
Will just naturally remember.

But other dates are personal
And even if I tried,
I never could forget today,
The date my father died.

Each year I flash back to that time
And feel that jolt of pain
