It depends on whose translating them.
but we know exactly what they mean
if we’re the ones creating them

it had to rhyme
it had to mean something—
something big—
like death, or love,
or the smell of gasoline in a motel parking lot.

so I just sat there
with a busted lighter
and an ashtray full of good intentions,
and the words just
spilled out like a drunk
trying to find my shoes that I misplaced.

I drew out seven canvases today
no biggie for me
I am a cartoonist
my tunes draw themselves
I hold onto the pencil
where they come from I do not know
They are as automatic as my poems

or sometimes by the end of the same day I wrote

Call to Create

This restless, ever-cresting urge, 
that pounds, incessant, in my breast, 
much like the ocean's pulsing surge 
that never seems to pause for rest, 
will have its way. 
I must obey. 

So I go, in meek surrender, 
find a quiet place to hide, 
and placing pen to paper, render 
poems from the swelling tide.

the lone life wanders despondent on the worn-out path.

Travel the space between.

Affecting reality,

Although it goes unseen.

Rivers flowing freely,

Their power unforseen.

Pushing forcefully,

Guiding this machine.

Defining what you see,

Creating the scene.

Starting as a baby,

It's bed free and clean.

Trickling slowly,

Across a blank screen.

Before we think clearly,

We created this ravine.

Walls so high and rocky,

A pool of thoughts convene.

Now choosing carefully,

Music is not my passion,
But I have other songs to share.
I can’t use oils and canvas,
But with my pen I have a flair.

CREATING A GARDEN

To create a garden from scratch,
Can seem so daunting,
But with a plan to hatch,
Is so marvellous and rewarding!!
Researching about the soil,
Choosing so many varieties of seeds,
Climate change and wind directions,
Not to mention the digging out the weeds!!
Lots of sketching and gardening books,
So full of vibrant, colourful flowers,
Planting the new plants I brought,

in the sense of
creating something
from nothing -- 
behind every idea
is a long history of
Divine contemplation -- 
behind all substance
defined is a universe
of ever soulful being.  
We create by grace, 
for the pleasure of God.
