A summer of smiles, a paradise of play,
lively, lighthearted laughter, each delirious day -
I clobbered all contenders in ping-pong.
I sought and I seized every fly ball in the field
in the picturesque park where I wheeled.
The charms of childhood’s recreation revealed -
I reach back and recall a sweet summer song.
So many athletes get their start
When they’re in school, or younger,
With parents to encourage dreams
And help sustain that hunger.
They’ll build a backyard skating rink
Or schlep them to their classes
And drain the family’s bank account
Plus take vacation passes.
The lucky ones fulfill those hopes
And join the real contenders,
Competing for the recognition
Such a feat engenders.
But what about the other ones,
Who never reach that level,
Whose injuries or lack of talent
Torment and bedevil?
I wonder if they sit and watch
The games and all the glory
And wish they had a very different
Ending to their story.
the page seemed innocent on the screen play of life
not yet computed and sterile but what better adaptation
of blocked writing by an innocent censor of apathy
for an empty cartridge on the blank canvas called reality
and yet what a relief that neurons had exhausted themselves
firing at invisible problems and surreal contenders for
thought of the moment and contempt fixed in time
synaptic displacement idiosyncratic only in absence
refuge or incarceration straitjacket of nothingness’ boredom
or maybe serene uneventfulness unfolding in languished arrest
framed as reference point of perplexing perspective
and finally an outburst of words with whatever elusive meaning there is …
there was a contest to decide
which faerie queen to abide
contenders came from kingdoms near
each one clever, each one dear
gnomes, elves and brownies watched the game
hoping Faerie Guinevere, they would name
she had protected the fey all her life
Brownie king brought out his fife
Guinevere was selected that day
to the relief of the entire fey
The bloodshot moon merged into the dark, hazy night.
People wandered aimlessly, avoiding a fight.
A sultry bar still open, dispensing hard stuff.
Bootleggers were abundant till the game got rough.
A man sat in a corner observing the scene,
The boozers drank too much like goblins dark of mien.
The quiet man went to a phone booth and whispered,
The platoon was ready, their commands were answered.
A large police squad arrested the offenders,
All were fined, and none offered any false contenders.
Did they learn their lesson and mend their wicked ways?
Go to nearby villages and consider their days.

Cinderella had fun at the ball
with her Prince charming, handsome and tall.
It got late and she would
run home fast as she could-
but one slipper fell off in a fall.
The Prince found it and let people know
he must find Cinderella, although
her glass shoe needs to fit-
those that don't, he'll omit.
The contenders did soon come and go.
Not one woman could match the small size.
Surely most of them did agonize!
But her mean stepsisters
chose to be enlisters
made a plan for large feet to disguise!
They then cut off some toes and the heel
disregarding the pain they would feel
planned to fool the Prince who
placed one shoe and withdrew!
As blood flowed, he collapsed with a squeal!
Cinderella forgave them for this-
took them under her wing with some bliss.
Found them men to soon wed.
At the wedding, instead-
pigeons plucked their eyes out with a hiss!
The race was on, the results could be wonderful or dire
Meredee’s dragon was excited enough to breathe fire
Her parents shared a pokey family dragon named McFee
He was so slow, I doubt he could outrun little Meredee.
The contenders soared into the air, and around a big hill.
Some of the slower dragons were at the beginning line still.
It was a race that made my heart beat triple time.
My cousin Meredee won, which was rather sublime.
Heel Cota makes his in ring debut versus "SumThang Specail" Derrgentt Cetter and manager "Bounce" Binny Banger. in a Stay Outta the corner strap match.
Both guys will be telthered in one corner, while four other guys will be tethered in the opposiite corner. The four guys have no alliance to either combatant and have the right to have action with the two men. 1;00 in the corner is the total time allowed. A regular three count or Countout will determain the winner. Contention matches can make new comers and lesser apprecated wrestlers instant contenders to the Worlds Championship. We heard the the Championship committe and the fans want to see someone comeup the ladder, uncrown either the Worlds Champion or the tagteam champions. I heard Dence Castburger say " this is a place of oppurtunities: we wanna see the best man win: if it's from the Contention Series< we'll thant's great for business!"

The best day of my life
now there indeed is a thought
to choose just one actual day
among all of them cold or hot
There would be some contenders
among my very many days
twenty five thousand five hundred
and fifty five so the calendar says
How do you just pick one?
for what makes a day the best
many factors could be included
just to go forever in your quest
Well for the sake of it
my best was indeed blessed
the day I met the risen Christ
gave me His heavenly crest
Always looked back on that day
with gratitude and such pleasure
how great that day was to me
you just could not measure!
(This was written considering if I have had a best ever day in my life, hence my thoughts about it. )
Contenders believe they can reach the top
Champions believe they belong there
Autumn in splendor, weaves yellow, gold, red thread,
Into a tapestry of colors, bedspread.
But, how does the Fall compare to Spring's delight,
When blossoms bloom, and green buds renewed, burst bright?
In Spring, nature awakens from winter sleep,
With colors fresh, vibrant, with hope recharged deep.
The splendor of life revived in every bloom,
The promise of rebirth, in fragrant perfume.
Autumn's splendor is never a fall from grace,
It's a celebration, an end of year embrace.
A ticker-tape parade, with confetti thrown
Skyward, the last waltz a splendid epitome.
How does one begin to compare such splendors?
To juxtapose Spring and Fall as contenders
In a stills gallery art show, happenstance!
Alive, parted by time, they're no rivals in dance.
