religiously believed in and prayed upon
for sure Thor was but one
but who'll be the next to come along
will we sing praises to him it or her
faithfully erect an edifice to edify
incense burn sacrifice virgins
bow down on our knees to deify
will fire and brimstone or flagellation
appear in the equation

Fire And Brimstone Preacher

a cool spring Midwestern morning
the preacher started his sermon
a guest preacher known for fire and brimstone
the little country church was filled
censuring the flock about their sins
claiming to be sin free himself
he said he was perfect like Jesus Christ
and that's when it happened
two large front doors blew open
gust of wind raced down the aisle
happened so fast

FIRE AND BRIMSTONE

Whitened collar, fixedly starched 
To the ultimate limits of self-perfection, 
Points righteous, crooked finger 
At an open-mouthed assembly, 
Crouching beneath thick-
Eyebrowed gaze of a dark
Frock-coated scarecrow.

His cackling voice emits 
Hollowed-out squawks,
Casting lines of invective 
Like steel confetti
Into the ironic celebration 
Of a judgemental wedding 
For outsiders, condemned 
Beyond the pale.

Heaven is expunged by

Hell's Fury

Opening my eyes …To the fire
In pain I can’t describe - Hell’s flames …Are beyond my thinking - Beyond comprehension
Nothing can quench …The fire I am alive - I cannot die - I’m on fire … In the depths of a place 
I never imagined … Or dreaded - A place I didn’t believe existed

Brimstone Street

This street is frequented by people in distress,
because, any difficulty, annoyance, concern, difficulty, contract, time, inconvenience, or obstacle,
were resolved simply in a single walk

The access road is narrow and little traveled.

is mandrill turning
Loves the evol jokes
that a-peel knock

Pain and fire; you understand?
No! I do not understand myself!
And what have I done?
O God - what have I -
I don't want the answer but I cannot run
What's broken then? Can circumstance really be faulted?
Or has the apple rotted right down to the core?
Nothing left but to perish in its own toxic flesh.

Yet ... if

A balmy day in February,
A flash of yellow's all I saw,
A welcome harbinger of Spring –
A paper bird upon the wing.

By name, a brimstone butterfly,
So apposite, its sulphur hue
Glows brightly, fresh, upon the eye,
Light as a feather it flits on by.

I watch it settle on a briar,
Presumably in search of food,
In vain – the rose-hips

How are you enjoying the heat

Welcome to the kitchen of hell

You will be here for a spell

Rotten meat and burning flesh

Hope you don't mind the smell 

Smell of sulphur masks the fumes

Morbid screaming from the rooms

If you are abrade to die

Look around and you nay realize

I was giving a lesson on the Liberty Bell, as the daily Church bells went off.
Yes, you guessed it, Dragon wanted to ring them, suddenly he was aloft.
Before we could follow, he was out of sight, but that didn’t matter, anyhow.
The only steepled church, with bells, is on the other side of town, I vow.

What Ever Happened To Fire and Brimstone Preaching

As I sit here on a Saturday night and prepare my heart for the Lord’s Day tomorrow I can’t help but reminisce about the days I spent in church as a child. The one thing that stands out about the difference between those days and now is the style and topic of preaching in churches.

I feel my blood run cold, like 
ice water is being pumped 
through my veins.
Ice chip tears start to form and 
console my now frozen heart
