Bloodcurdling

Bloodcurdling...
A scream splits through the dead of night,
sharp as glass, raw with pain,
choking, gasping, lost from sight.

Bloodcurdling...
Footsteps pound down hollow halls,
too fast, too near, too filled with dread,
yet silence lingers after all.

Bloodcurdling...
A door swings wide with aching groan,
a shadow lurches, jagged, wrong,
its breath is heat, its touch is bone.

Bloodcurdling...
The walls are slick, the floorboards creak,
something drips, slow and thick,
a crimson trail too fresh to speak.

Bloodcurdling...
A whisper hums against your ear,
too close, too soft, too full of glee--
You thought you'd run... but you're still here.

Ocean is more ancient than the mountains, and
freighted with the memories and the dreams of time.
—H.P. Lovecraft, The Best of H.P. Lovecraft:
Bloodcurdling Tales of Horror and the Macabre

His Overboard Tale

My captain bellows, “heave-ho.”
Off the plank I go, overboard.

I plunged into the night, entangled in
aberrant irises of the deep.

When my abject insanity rewinds,
I wish that I had swallowed the sea.

The kiss of salt and seaweed,
the wretch filled my lungs.

The Shes were more fish than maid
with huge hips and floundering tails.

The strange language of burbles,
their breasts made me gag…

Seahag hair, menacingly like Medusa’s.
I surmised sirens locks would actually bite.

My dreams capsized.
Why am I alive?

I’d rather that the chest be covered.
I shall never recover.

That’s why this landlubber
drinks and drinks, burbles.

At the end I was found on a rock.
I hit the rocks hard.

Swallow the water, lad.
Leave no room for desire.

Mermaids are a misnomer;
breaststroking in Bruichladdich proof.

Have a swim lad in this label
and stay far away from shore.

Costuming Halloween

Masque my visage fast!
…So my eyes bulge out, drunken red, and give me
purpled, hairy lips and cheeks to complete
My bloodcurdling look — Yikes!
So scary…Not sweet!
So chilling that Halloween’s
Gross memories of seeing me will not be beat!

Then, when I float from door to door,
Levitating on a smoky breeze,
To greet the folks’ aghast gazes, I’ll growl
with a phantasmal voice to haunting, I’ll declare,
“Boo! Trick or treat!” and
They’ll step back away as if shock could kill, but
Thrilled, gasp, “Hey! Your costume’s a blast!”

Whereupon, I’ll begin my Halloween act
By morosely sharing, “T’is not a costume at all,
But my natural state…’T’is my own gross, gremlin grin;
My own foot-long ears; my own outlandish, fear-frizzed hair,
That altogether has me wailing, especially on
       H a l l o w eve n night
      “BOO-hoo! Boo! Boo-hoo!”

~ A Poem on the Torah Portion of the Week ~
                   Parshas Ki-Savo
             Deuteronomy 26:1 - 29:8

  Curse after bloodcurdling curse
to be visited upon those who do not obey
  Relatively few are the blessings
gracing those who follow G-d's way

Why, why, why so many terrible curses
    when blessings are scant
  Why does the Torah choose
    to rave and rant...

One Jewess survived the Vilna ghetto
read the rebuke and the curses, and did teshuva* *repentance
Said she couldn't believe the things God said He'd do
'til she saw every one of them come true...

God in Heaven, You have brought us every curse
We have lived through hell, and sometimes worse
Now before the New Year, it is You we are directly addressing
to inscribe us for Life ~ and all Your unfulfilled blessings

Do Nothing, It's All Done Anyway

A small childish event
slips through an unguarded moment once more,
then a teenage grudge nudges my ego
demanding some resolution.

Big Foot is tearing up the woods.
The interstellar aliens want us all to relax,
to be a be-ing – just a being
not a human doing. No,
we are human beings -
there’s nothing to do.

No fights are worth doing-over, just let it happen,
don't define 'it'.
besides ‘doing’ gives the Universe a headache
you brought upon yourself
back in the early childhood event days.

Let the crap go;
like water it will flow along
the line of least resistance,
then it all ends at the bottom
of a peak you never needed
to climb anyway.

Make a billion dollars,
build that bridge, damn or barn,
let imagination put its hard hat on
and go to work.
Then cut the yellow ribbon and grin.
If it's fun it's done.

When the Master said
we could move mountains
he meant let the mountain move to you -
allow it. He did not mean
start shoveling – that would be dumb.

Bigfoot has left for the Florida Keys
he needs a little rest
from being a doer, forever in training
for his next bloodcurdling howl.

Naught for the Faint in Heart

Harrowing bloodcurdling decapitations, decomposing cadavers, and spine-tingling minions of apparitions,
that unravels in this gothic horror too spooky for the sane,
a haunted house wizard's necromancy as orbs creeps out the culled to unnerving extreme conditions,
with levitations abound as specters possess those they drain,
a witch incantations o'er boiling cauldron with the eyes of newt, whorling bats, hooting owl renditions,
arched black cat hissing as the mangled mouse shrieks wane,
hair-raising tools of chainsaws, pitchforks, guillotines, scythe, thumbscrews, and fatal games of volitions,
petrified palpitations immeasurable to read a pulmonary vein.

Royally draped over a soft cushion
hugging a soft, fluffy white carpet
her gaze wanders
to the flickering images
on the TV screen
before her...
abruptly transfixed
rocking on her haunches now
her eyes darting back and forth
as if at a ping-pong match...
she tenses now
back arched
hints at moving
A bloodcurdling SCREAM is heard
she leaps; flies away

A Bloodcurdling Moment

One dark eerie Halloween night,
Count Dracula gave me a fright.
His pointed teeth gleamed,
I bolted and screamed,
When he asked me out for a bite!

Premium MemberThe Saga of Charlie Mckee

Charlie McKee against wise advice,
Went into Lucas Swamp cold as ice,
Told of savage beast that kills on sight,
Thought he was day’s true king and dark’s bold knight.

He held the Swamp’s risks were oversold,
But threat of dangers had been foretold,
He yielded to his gigantic ego,
And misjudged the Swamp’s vile entrapment pro.

There are eyes on you, a vile fiend,
Dark probing eyes of livid green,
O'er the jaws of a razor-sharp grin,
Pearly whites much like needle pins.

On windy nights, folk can hear howling,
From out of Lucas Swamp, loud growling,
Bloodcurdling screams fill their souls with fright,
Charlie went in the Swamp, but didn’t come out.

Premium MemberOne Love

They woke me
I listen, voices loud, louder
arguing with each other
my ears ring
then all the demons stop
speak to me, all of them
worthless, addicted, vain
destined for happy? snickers
no woes just abstain? laughter
go kill yourself!
my thoughts hide away
bullied and drained
I put my ear phones in
chill on Bob Marley
“One Love, One Love, lets....”
bloodcurdling screams
sound of demons slain
I’m smiling, hum along, “feel alright”

Coffin Nail

Like putrid vomit, the truth seething through,
Chunks sticking to me like hot glue,
And the entrails of memories continue to stew.
So frustrated, mental don't know what to do.

But some secrets are not mine to tell.
Keep following me I'll lead you straight to hell.
Through space, time, and dimensions,
I follow the trail.
Bloodcurdling screams make your face pale.
Icy fingers reaching from hell,
 draining blood from every cell.

"I tried to catch her, it was then she fell!"
His words of confession, all lies as well.
Sickening smile expanding as drool fell.
Lost in the memory of her sweet smell,
his putrid odor mingling as well.
And her screams echoing
with the sound of the hammer fell,
After each coffin nail.
