OMGoodness, Sara. I thought they'd be in the western states, but out there in metro Georgia, my, oh, my. I believe TPS is also in Georgia, mayhaps in the southern part, I could be mistaken. Hilo's a dinky town, too small for cougars or anywhere in Hawaii, though a croc was found on the island where Honolulu's at and animal control believe it was a pet that got too big for its owners who released it into the wild--idiots. TC and Aloha, William

People do release their pets be it a snake or alligator or croc at times because of one reason or another not realizing or not caring the danger that puts other people in. Thank you for dropping by, William. Your visits have been encouraging. Sara K

I am not so sure that these cougars are extinct either... Chills and shivers, Gershon

Gershon, They are in other states and are definitely in Florida so there is not way they can't be in our state as well. Anyway, thank you for your visit. A bobcat attacked a 3 year old child in the Atlanta area this week, but we knew that they are around here for quite a long time now and are quite highly populated. Sara K

Excellent Senryu, Sara. The photo helps, but your words paint the same picture, my friend. Have a joyful evening. Bill

Bill, I am glad that my words could express the idea behind the Haiku. A long time ago at 3 A.M. some animal gave that bloodcurdling cry right outside our bedroom window. I was not asleep, but my husband was in deep sleep from which he was awakened. Both of us scared. Sara K

an outstanding composition, Sara. Thanks for the picture you created and for increasing my vocabulary. Wasn't familiar with horripilation. It's a great word, though. Thanks for always reading my poetry. Have a great evening, Sara EB

Kim. No any more. So many species that should not be here have gotten back introduced into nature through people having pets and letting them go, storms getting them turned loose, etc. Thanks for dropping by. Sara K

Oh quite an intriguing haiku dear Sara, you always extract the essence so well and the way you write about nature and animals always is so interesting to read.. That description of 'loud bloodcurdling cry " Is definitely haunting and sline chilling, I dare not hear that! But your words are creative..

Hiya, It was about 5 to 8 years ago when we heard that bloodcurdling sound about 3 A.M. at night. We never knew exactly what it was, but to me it sounded like maybe some kind of large cat. We have not heard it again. Some people around here saw and even got on camera a picture of a black panther but I never saw one or even a picture. Thanks for dropping by. Sara

The hair on my skin would probably fall if I saw such a ferocious animal. Great haiku. Makes mine too tepid for comfort. Blessings

Victor, I would not want to see a cougar, panther, bobcat, or any other kind of large cat out in the wild here, but they once did roam here wild so they say. There have been sightings occasionally but no official ones. The government has brought back so many species that once were no longer here. Thanks for the visit and the interesting review of my work.
