I've deleted this acrostic from the competition for personal reasons.
        SORRY, J. D.

G lorious was the morning I climbed the Scottish highland
R adiant warmth of Summer's sun shimmered over the trail
E mblazoned with clover, near a forested Wych Elm stand
A stonished at the scenic vista, my lofty imagination set sail
T raipsing across the North Sea, I was Captain in command

E lusive was the tailwind on my adventurous nautical escape
S cotland clamored for my return, 'Make haste. Hurry home!
C ast your notions upon the wind. Your spinnaker, undrape
A nother day will you play, when in illusory flight you roam
P erchance invite another dreamer and don your Tartan cape
E mbark upon a getaway beyond the heathered hills of loam'

Premium Member Life Is Short

it seems in just the twinkling of an eye
life passes by
and one's left at the brink
with time to think
before the fall
into the great abyss
where did time go?

For some, life is short
for others, long
But the years don't count
Nor do the hours
It's the moments which capture eternity

You can live a lifetime in a moment
and face death happy and proud
for eternity has been tasted and lived
Cowardice kills
Bravery lives
Be brave enough to follow your dreams
Don't settle for second best
Mediocrity weighs you down
numbs and suffocates
Cling to your passion
Blaze in its flame
be honest with your soul
in that bid to be whole...
BE HONEST WITH YOUR SOUL!

When you deny your soul
you start to die

Above all....
LOVE
with PASSION
as if this were the last time
your lips were to taste
desire's embrace
or eyes were to see
that blessed face
Don't make haste
LIVE

Love
Love is the sum total of life
if you have loved
you have lived...
and if you have truly lived love's life
you can die content
for eternity has been yours
for a moment
in
time

I recently showed some photos to my class of a young man in his twenties who lost his battle with Cystic Fibrosis. His sister is my daughter's age, and once when she visited Cyprus, I took her and my daughter and another friend out. She loved me and added me on Facebook. I've followed her brother's journey with avid interest and pain. Her younger brother has cystic fibrosis as well, and her husband has it. He recently had a lung transplant...and for a time, Hannah didn't know if he would make it to the wedding. So much pain in her life. I've recently shared on FB at her request, a site where people can make donations to raise awareness about Cystic Fibrosis. My heart aches for her in her time of mourning. We complain about insignificant things, when all Ben wanted was to be able to breathe free and LIVE!!!

What is life? The Bible says that it's like a flower...here today and gone tomorrow. We complain...about so many things...not realizing that every day we live is a gift that's not guaranteed to many. We need to cherish those who matter. Live life to the full. Find and grasp happiness. LIVE LOVE....LOVE! :) That's the sum total of life.

Move On
(Anacreontic Verse)

Oh you tiresome
earthen road,
this traveler
faithfully has walked
your rocky path
of mystery.
I've traveled far
and traveled wide;
tired, I pause beside
your peaceful stream.
Its quiet soothes
my soul to long for
sleep in endless dream.
The fire is made,
the chores are done
why must I ever
move along?
Just let me lay
upon your bank
to hear your carefree,
rippling song.
But I must move on...
on and on!
Make haste while there
is sun and light.
More roads to walk,
more hills to climb,
before the dark
and cold of night.

A Night Under Stars

Sitting beneath the stellar awning
Humbly, shall I comemmorate
Before the sun, creeps in crawling
Every star shall I dedicate
To you, My Love; Look at the skies
For you, My Love, I most despise.

To you, I say, in subtle north
Go tell him how my heart did bleed
When he did scowl, as I put forth
The ways I cared and loved indeed
You'd kiss my wounds - control, condole
Then skew them deeper, slaying my soul.

In far east, you, so bright yet blank
Have you not seen how hard i wept?
When flowed his eyes, his tears I drank
Did you not count my nights unslept?
And blind, was I, to your disguise
Gaze up, My Love, go find your lies!

Weep not, My friend, most close-knit
For you did taste deception bitter
Dazzled like queen, down south you sit
Mere a pawn now of waning glitter
Concur I, My Love, all pretence is sweet!
Until falls the cloak, and truth does greet.

Toppled, as I, did west monarch shiver
Warned of haste; but he'd cried my name
Limits, leaped I, not a blink's quiver
For cared I not, if world did blame
In pain, My Love, at me, you mocked
Alone, My Love, left me, you debauched!

Sorrow, the sacrifice, you did witness
O! Glazing Moon! Make haste and tell
How profound is hatred, beneath this breast
Where, drenched in love, a heart did dwell
Upon you, My heart, I swear, I proclaim
Sha'n't ever bleed in eye, sha'n't ever take his name.

Lo! Behold! Last thing, I wish to confess
If I say unto you, shall I be relieved
For you know me, my heart at best
If I say unto you, shall I be believed
No matter how high may hatred soar
I own, my love shall weigh ever more!

Rhythm I

Old ideas, more like character defects--
no way to pay bills or get paychecks.
Mind-aching explosion,
put up the road blocks,
ticking like a time bomb or a grandfather clock.
Time's up, make a decision,
something you can live with--
space just to breathe and enough room to pivot.
Exquisite provisions--
invaded by religion.
Predicaments that can change one's whole way of livin'.
Conditions,
they can make you
or absolutely break you.
Be wise with the lifestyle and morals that you take to.
Make haste not to
delay the truth inside the prelude
and maybe one day you
will finally have a breakthrough.

Premium Member Runaway With Me

Would you pack up and run away with me if I were to ask you to today?
Would you throw aside all the past? The turbulence we shared? Would you forget the screaming matches and remember what we shared?

If I dream of this; is there a chance that it may come true? The answer is too much time has passed, and there’s nothing more to say or do (unhappy face).

But I keep on hanging on, like a worn out Diana Ross song. I blame you; bellowing ”you just keep me hanging on”.

It seems I fell victim to the powers of your kiss. I treated you badly I didn’t realize how much I’d miss.

In this case there are no victims, there are only volunteers, and it seems you too fell ‘victim’, still loving me after all of these years.

I’d like to say I am sorry, but this is a worn out tune. I do have regrets. I blame it all on me. As they say it takes two to tango I wish now that I could see.

But then how could I be sorry to have loved so passionately? I am the lucky one, that someone too loved me.

I still ask would you run away with me? Take me to the justice one more time for a quiet ceremony?

Walk with me through life as if this is something we ever knew how to do. Accept the others faults with no backdoor to escape through.

Grow old and gray together family at our side, the American dream they call it a wild, bumpy ride.

All of the latter is something we will likely never know, but the passion once shared will surely never go.

Its electrical magnetic charge is etched upon my heart. Those times when we were young and would just do ‘it’ anywhere, that heat that drew us like flames we didn't have a care.

I ask again, would you run away with me?! Run away with me now!!! there’s no time to make haste. Life really is short we mustn't let it waste.

My beauty fades fast my love, my lines have become deep, my desires they are waning. Still my love for you I keep.

Run away with me my sweetheart I promise I’ll be fair. I will love you to the ends of time, more than you can bare.

Run away even if you have to wait until the dark of night. Run away with me my love make everything alright.

Excrushitting

Must make haste
 Excruciating!
Time for "waste"

Chocolate and Cream

No sweeter a dream
Than chocolate and cream
The mixture of which
Is tasty and rich

And one mustn’t judge
The swirl in the fudge
Or those who make haste
To sample a taste

No greater reward
For one who is bored
Than cocoa delight
That mingles with white

All over my tongue
The flavors have sprung
A velvety stream
Of chocolate and cream

Premium Member This Golden Day: a Madrigal For Amber

My Amber dear, awake to me.
My madrigal has melody
in trills of the gold finch that you hear.
Awake to me, my Amber dear!

It’s dawn. Arise, my angel sweet.
Put golden slippers on your feet.
We’ll follow where our songbird flies.
My angel sweet. It’s dawn; arise!

We must make haste, my lovely lass,
to walk on glistening velvet grass.
A day like this we cannot waste.
My lovely lass, we must make haste!

A meadow waits, my cherished one.
Through sun-bright posies we shall run,
where dewy fragrance permeates.
My cherished one, a meadow waits!

I know a stream, my darling love,
a shining mountain sits above.
And water falls where gold fish gleam.
My darling love, I know a stream.

We’ll find a rock, oh, maiden fair,
where you can loose your yellow hair.
And please me more. . . unloose your frock!
Oh, maiden fair, we’ll find a rock.

My one true heart, do come away.
Beneath the falls this golden day,
pure pleasure will our love impart.
Do come away, my one true heart!

Love Without Embrace

Love Without Embrace

...can someone recreate and grasp their embrace of lost love?...

Oh! what treachery of love is this?
abandoned by a Judas kiss…
Does not my soul soundly speak?
condemned and crucified by the love I seek…

I am here my love, can thou not see me?
I feel thy chronic cries with a palpitating plea…
Oh! What madness is within thy mind?
I stand in front of thee for thus thou shall find…

Oh! What an evil spell thou have cast,
I hear thee and see thee not, a speck of dust from the past…
What a diabolical dread, please speak no more,
for each word I hear brings me closer to death’s door…

My love thou must awaken from this nightmares dream,
for my heart touches thy heart in a silent scream…
And thus I pray for our love to reconnect,
for we are abandoned in oblivion of love’s neglect

I am drowning in my filth for thy love I cannot taste,
save my salvaged soul, my love, make haste make haste…
Tis the moon I last see a frozen moment of your face,
in my abandonment of love without embrace.

Premium Member Santa May Be Late

'Twas the night before Christmas
I had myself a beer
Brushed off my apron
It was time for cheer
After all it’s Christmas eve
Hear! Hear!
It’s so exciting
A lovely atmosphere
Light fluffy snow
Santa’s sitting here
Sipping on hot coco
He’s grinning ear to ear
Comfy in his rocking chair
And looking so cavalier
Not worried by the time
Same story every year
He waits till the last minute
Until I volunteer
To pack a lunch and
Call his every reindeer
I remind him to make haste
Grab his bag and gear
Under children’s trees
Presents don’t just appear
So much to plan and do
Fly through each hemisphere
Unless he’s thinking
Changing his career
He better quick hit the road
And best be on his merry way

Time, Friend Or Foe

Time, friend or foe
           I really don’t know
Both, I suspect
          As I recollect
Friend in a way
           I’d have to say
For I’ve known love
          That I can speak of
And I’ve been blessed
          I might suggest
But foe, I report
          For time runs short
And must make haste
          No time to waste

Parody of Andrew Marvel's Poem To His Coy Mistress

Parody of Andrew Marvell's "to his coy mistress"
We have no time to waste
Dear in Love let's make haste
I haven't time to praise your locks
For my boss at my back stalks
And for sheer platonic relation
Internet erotic sites I can't shun
And I have dates waiting in queue
If you dither
I will select any in lieu of you
My glabruous love should grow
like your painfully maintained eyebrow
And yonder before us lie
A chimney-tarnished sky
Before air pollution retards our respiration
Let our breath mingle each other in unison

Premium Member Watching

The eyes of the old house
watch me as i pass by

my steps quicken as i make haste
    past the wrinkled pallid face

during the day i walk slowly
for it is then that he is sleeping...

A Spenserian Sonnet
(Mr. Snake falls in love with a garden hose)

Today I slithered up a grassy hill,
wet from the creek and eager to explore.
The urge to snare a mate devoured my will,
could not this be the day for me to score?

I spot you there beside the garden door,
your slick green shape pervades my hungry sight.
Your golden head criss-cross my eyes before
your trim tight coil peals visions of delight.

Yet when I push my moves into the light
your body squirms and grows before my eyes,
and dread arises in a burst of fright.
You spit at me in angry spurts, surprise

me with a gush of clear and liquid spray,
while I make haste to scuttle fast away.
