Best Hummer Poems
peach sun has come back
long hours of rain and thunder
hummingbird plunder
hued blooms gather with
the stunning jeweled wonder
stained rite of summer
noon pause for orange
and backwards flight aflutter
butterfly colors
rapid wing whispers
velvet time is life's usher
gold midday mutters

Poor Ruby Hummer looks confused,
searching for her favorite feeder.
It was right there when it last was used,
in September, in the cedar.
Above the Bee-balm and Lobelia,
in my pollinator garden,
so sorry, Ruby, yes I feel ya,
and I truly beg your pardon.
I’m late this May, you came so soon
from your Yucatan vacation.
2000 miles from your lagoon,
a miraculous migration.
500 miles without a stop
o’er the Gulf, you must be famished.
A marvel that you didn’t drop,
and now your feeder’s vanished!
‘twas just last week we had some snow,
a freakish mid-Spring specter.
Please be patient, please don’t go,
I’ll brew you up some nectar.
Meanwhile, check the Columbines
while I go and fetch the feeder.
And don’t forget your Trumpet Vines
that grow behind the cedar.
Come grace my garden, cheer my heart,
you’re my favorite garden guest.
It’s time to fatten up and start
to build the family nest.
Nest materials, soft and pliable,
give shelter from the storms.
Next Spring I will be more reliable,
I’ll institute reforms.

Jazzing around,
the black humming bee
swings along with the strings
Fiddles, guitars
in the piano bars
keeping a-slamming the floor
The music is growing
from under the feet

Well, darn--I wish bushes grew faster.
That might help me avoid a disaster.
What is a buzz-maestro supposed to do
when a Hummer takes nectar from you?
I've buzzed by all my usual haunts.
They're out of stock--what about MY wants?
When nectar comes in, price is sky-high.
(I think it's price gouging, between you and I.)
What can a bee drink and hold his head high?
Something else I'm now bein' forced to try.
Say--here's a glass prettied up like snow.
I'm calling Buzz and Sting--we'll give it a go.
* * *
Now Buzz is dive-bombin' and then crashin'.
He's pretty funny but could get a thrashin'.
Sting's gone crazy, flies around upside down.
That witch's brew made them come unwound.
We're flying off before it becomes night.
Man, if they aren't a pitiful sight!
Guess I'd better start actin' all grown.
Maybe even talk that Hummer into a loan!

A sweet hummingbird gives me great pleasure,
I love their iridescent hovering;
they are a gift from God and a treasure,
how, lovely is their feather covering.
Oh, listen and you can hear their wings beat,
those long bills and longer tongues drinking nectar;
they hover backwards and up-side down- repeat,
hummer is a skilled nectar collector.
There are many kinds of hummers in the world,
vast plumage and sizes- like flying gems;
nothing more stunning that a hummer curled,
at pretty flowers on long swaying stems.
Nothing is more beautiful than a dip
for hummer- then after, a little drip.

This mind…
It may be deranged, I admit.
But then I try to remember what normal is…?
Nah,
I’m not crazy…
I’m just an introvert, a disbeliever, and an artist.
What do you tell yourself?
I’m rambling here, sorry, let me get to what I’m saying (what am I saying?)
So I’m down in my basement/apartment right?
Staring at the ceiling in a numbed drugged-like state
It’s gotta be at least 3 or 4 in the morning
And my thoughts are all tangled up in humanity still
This rectangle light in my eyes though,
You know, the ones you usually see in offices or something,
with all the other plain white rectangles around it trying to fit in with the cool rectangular crowd?
Or is it the other way around? I don’t know.
Society is crazy not me!
Anyways, the only light is flickering and flashing above me
This happens over and over, my eyes half closed
And I swear I could see the shadow of a man on the wall
Moving closer and closer with every dark interval
The only thing I can hear is this fan to the right of me
Blowing electric wind into my ears
And its humming,
Humming and humming and humming
It becomes an ambience and I’m still gone for hours in this trance
Writing this (whatever this is) in my head unconsciously
I lay here so long I hear voices in the static,
Phantoms whispering through revolving blades
And the light still flicks shadows at the wall
like wet mud shaken from the fingers
And the ghost is leering
It is all so hauntingly beautiful
It becomes music for my spirit
And it could definitely make someone crazy
But I’m not crazy,
Are you?

Tiny little Ruby Throated Hummingbird
Outside my window sill
At the feeder drinking your fill
Being guarded by daddy on the hill
He's hoovering over
Guarding your evey move
Trying to protect you
From every cat that's got groove

Hibiscus for a sweet hummer',
with feathers so iridescent;
oh, dip your long beak in nectar !
Flutter my little incomer,
I love your green blue pearlescent;
oh, lovely flower inspector !
Blooming just for you all summer,
tail a purple incandescent;
sweet bloom for a sweet collector !
Delightful little mime mummer,
look like you could be fluorescent;
and blessed with a sweet detector !
Among my flowers shimmering;
spinning, flitting, and glimmering !

Big Bummer Selling Hummer
Easy living likes the summer;
All the rest is a big bummer;
Cause was lost,
With no cost;
Even had to sell our hummer.

O, I Remember
You Broke my Heart
'In the Garden'
My Tranquil Garden
At My Garden End
'O, Sweet Hummer'
Falling, Falling, Falling
" and angels wept"
O, Why, Why, Why
Hollow, Hollow Inside
O, my broken heart
Death Is Cruel
O, the hurt
In My Heart
O, the pain "I weep"
She Lays In Repose
