Best Hesitantly Poems
What has become of me?
Like a madman laughing in the rain,
wandering through fields of barley,
where ghosts whisper my name.
Hesitantly venturing forward,
reluctant to turn back,
loved ones desperately hold my hand.
Time is no longer a friend of mine.
I'm aware this path shall be my last,
but I'm smiling - satisfied,
knowing the pain will end.
Reminiscing seasons gone by,
memories are like rose petals,
softening each step -
my mind is at peace knowing
thorns can't cut me any more.
Images flash by
my first kiss, my last tear,
words spoken, words lost in silence,
and how the wind danced at sunset
illuminating golden crops.
Birds sing songs of goodbye,
tomorrow there will be no sunrise.
My heart will never again
harvest upon nature's rewards.
Scarecrows watch over barren fields,
suffocated by absent hands.
As each breath becomes shorter,
my soul prepares to depart.
But I'm lost in thought, wondering:
Will it be celestial lullabies,
or dancing with the devil?

The Unicorn
Once upon a time…
an incredible event occurred that was so sublime.
On a warm summer night many years ago,
awakened by the rhythmic tempo
of hoof beats coming from the yard below,
I peered outside my bedroom window.
There on my lawn I was astonished to see,
a silver-white unicorn peering back at me.
Dressed in only a nightie, I dashed out my front door;
and found him frolicking, prancing to and fro.
Sparkling as he was under a silvery moonbeam,
I wondered if this was only a surreal dream.
He was handsome, noble, and dignified,
so confident and assured trotting to my side.
In awe of this mythical creature, I couldn’t speak,
but gently patted him from cheek to glowing cheek.
His well-groomed mane felt like satin and silk,
with a faint scent of harvested hay and fresh milk.
Then I heard from inside my head,
a deep, masculine voice which stately said,
“Your Majesty, it would be my great honor
to take you on a tour of celestial wonder!”
Reverently he bowed, as I, completely taken aback,
hesitantly mounted his muscular unsaddled back.
Time stood still as he swept me away,
right through the heart of the magnificent Milky Way.
We flew past amazing asteroids, planets, moons,
and zillions of stars looking like fiery, bulging balloons.
In flight, we traveled at the very speed of light,
and I was exhilarated with unbridled delight.
Returning me to Earth, he bowed his gallant head;
and as I dismounted graciously said,
“It’s been a pleasure, my dear Queen;
so long, and I’ll see you in your dreams!”
But even though our voyage of discovery was over,
that mystical experience changed my life forever.
Never again have I seen the unicorn on my lawn,
but from time to time, between midnight and dawn,
in my dreams, I hear a voice that’s oddly familiar
call out my name in a velvety whisper.
And somehow I know that it’s my old friend…
who’ll be watching over me ‘til the end.

You tempt me
As I sense your presence by my side
The whisper of your flowing silken dress
A whiff of fragrant jasmine scent.
You tempt me
With each flicker of your doe-brown eyes
Shadowed in lilac hues and full dark lashes
A smile, partly concealed on pouting lips.
You tempt me
With curvaceous waves of long black hair
Cascading by glowing peach-rose cheeks
Rising, falling on your breast with every breath.
You tempt me
As you stand against the evening light
The Aphrodite of my dreams and fantasies
Seductive, alluring and desirable.
I temp you
As gently I pull back my straying hair
Nestled on the fullness of my breast
Exposing what your famished eyes are feasting on.
I tempt you
In silent expectation my body glows
With purpose of fulfilment I slowly make my way to you
My haloed shadow dances on your rigid form.
I tempt you
Breathless, you lean against the wall
My desires surging at this sign of weakness
Within inches of your body, I languidly pause.
I tempt you
Sensuously, at satin ribbons my fingers pull
Until my struggling gown hesitantly quivers
Before it glides and gathers at my feet.
I tempt you
Grounded by wanton cravings, I look you in the eyes
I simply smoulder there within your reach
The final vestige of abstinence still lingers in the air.
I tempt you
Then I lean in, my breath is warm upon your check
Against your heaving chest my breasts now brush
I breathe and whisper softly “Come to me.”
I tempt you
Inveigled in this rare moment, my heart bursts
As you crush my body tightly against yours
You taste the temptress kiss that frees your needs.
I tempt you
For my heart has long been tempted
By strong unquenched desires
For you.
A Repost of a collaboration with Paul Callus
I turned,
towards my friend, who always was complaining
about the injustices and hardships of life and in
a calm voice I asked him:
" Tell me, was there a moment in your life that you,
smiled?
Laughed?
Jumped for joy?
Celebrated a success?
Kissed your sweetheart and told her how much you loved her?
That you embraced your firstborn and exclaimed-
how beautiful life is?"
My surprised friend looked at me, took a deep breath, and then,
hesitantly, whispered:
" Yes, I have to admit that there were moments like that in my life."
" If there were moments like that, as you have just admitted," I continued
"You, certainly, justify, each and all of the things you so vehemently
condemn all life long!"
My friend looked at me rather confused, saying nothing.
Realizing that there was not to be any reply, I went on:
" You see, my good friend, we humans understand something
only if its opposite exists.
For instance, we understand cold for there is warm,
soft, because we have experienced hard,
heavy, because there is light and so on.
In the same way, we feel pleasure because we have felt pain,
Joy because we felt sadness,
Happiness because we felt unhappiness.
As you see,
the question is not, how just or unjust life is
but how much we accept life or not accept it.
If we do accept it- we have a chance to be happy
If we do not, then happiness will elude us.
Therefore,
all depends on the degree we accept life or not,
and
To that degree, we can be either happy or unhappy,
which means,
either we would be able to enjoy life
or we would keep
lamenting and complaining about it! "

* I would like to thank all my friends who visited and supported me throughout the years. I also thank the officials of PS for the honor of the POTD. I wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR, and may all your dreams come true, but first and foremost, I wish you health! Love. Demetrios
Ellie was just three months old,
When she was brought to our sanctuary,
A safe haven was our fold.
She was an orphan, her mother,
Her sister, her aunt, her brother,
All chased and shot, and left to die,
From our sad experience we knew,
That probably a foul mouthed,
Red faced, sun frazzled man
Whose muscled legs would look
Disgusting,
And who with red eyes bulging
Would say,
What a booty,
We have in the truck today.
He would generate an excitement,
Of the atrocity they had
Committed, saying they would
Receive a bonus this month
Added to their pay.
And what was their booty,
A truck full of tusks
Elephants killed when it
Was still light,
Until dusk
Too dangerous at night.
A war between poachers
And rangers
How could rangers,
Gentle souls, who loved animals,
Equal the poachers trained brutality,
Who had not a trace
Of humanity.
Baby Ellie
Was found,
Starving, scared and cold,
Somewhere in the African bush
Almost dead,
But she survived a shot to the head.
We had other young orphans,
They all would play
As baby elephants do,
And slowly Ellie became stronger.
Her mummy who faced
Horrific slaughter,
Would have been so proud of
Her daughter.
Rehabilitation was done,
It was both work and fun.
Eight months later we all
Thought that it was time,
For Ellie to be with her own kind,
And knew she would find
In the African bush, a new
Family who would care
And love her.
Clumsily she got into the truck,
Perhaps it was fear that
Brought the smell of death near,
Awkwardly.
And hesitantly she walked
Down the ramp,
A mama elephant spied her first,
And with their recognizable gait,
And heavy weight,
Walked to one another,
Swinging their trunks,
And so, they met,
And side by side they walked
To the nearby water pan,
Our hearts sang,
As Ellie turned and let out
A loud,
But proud,
Thunderous trumpet,
Thank you she meant,
I love you too.
Ellie had finally
Come home,
To her own.
On my way to church
the spirit of Christmas I met the other night.
All excited it was as the day of Jesus's birth
was coming.
In awe, I approached it and hesitantly
I asked:
" Could you, sacred spirit, tell me what the real
meaning of Christmas is? "
The spirit looked at me, at first, rather surprised for
I appeared as a man of faith
yet
didn't seem to know what was I celebrating,
however,
with a compassionate smile and a very
calm voice willingly replied:
" The real meaning of Christmas
is the rebirth of love in people's hearts.
A rebirth that aims to reestablish
the relationship among the people themselves first and then
reinforce their connection with the divine, as the Lord
meant it to be pure and holy!
In that way
the love and peace of the heavens
would be enshrined in the heart of every man and
make people love one another, the fact that would lead
love to reign upon the earth and bring peace
to humanity.
Only then the birth of Jesus would make sense
and take its real meaning
causing the angels with joy sing -peace on earth and
Alleluia! "

Clouds of doubt hovered
Over our heads
They multiplied and grew to
Mistrust
That brewed into a storm of anger which
Unleashed its rage in
Thunder of words and
Lightning of gestures.
In a while
The exhausted tempest subsided
Clouds dissipated
The sun of trust hesitantly appeared
It grew stronger and brighter,
Reason prevailed,
Feelings warmed up,
Harts palpitated,
Arms opened wide
And
We threw ourselves into
Each other's embrace
Finding thus shelter in
Our love
Hence
Fearing the coming of a
A new storm, NO MORE!

From behind veiled clouds the moon awaits
hesitantly. It’s time to greet
restless souls that roam on Halloween.
What shall it be....a trick or treat?

Touching you, your skin
so cold, flat, hard
the sickness within you
like muddy water after a downpour,
how could I stay. I could, I could not run...
from the death in your hollow eyes,
the limpness of your skeletal fingers.
Don’t run. Life seeks life,
succubus to the energy of kindnesses, chi.
Stroking your broad forehead
the horizon of beyond comes clear, clear to me.
Yet fear, is all you feel
and the wind of black holes, all you hear.
The eye of I, connects with the we of Thee,
momentarily, rosing a cheek
hesitantly, lifting the corner of lip
as you, through the we
remember He. Touching....
She flushes and drops bright eyes
to hide my image...
I cup her face and drown it.
[me]
She breathes hesitantly, mouth
Pressed and obstinate...
I gather her corners up.
[drawing that smile again]
She welts tearlines onto the
Pale perfection: skin...
I wet my thumbs, agonized.
[her sorrow breaks]
She sleeps, curls framing movement
And serenity...
I weave myself into both.
[touching the ends of eternity]
to ask to be forgiven
and to truly forgive,
to make amends,
to soothe hurts with a vow,
the most opportune time,
my friend, is now;
instantly we hate,
cautiously we love,
belatedly we miss
and long for the one
who has been unloved
now dead and gone;
postponing kindness,
hesitantly, we wait,
tomorrow, as always,
comes too late,
the undertaker knows
the tears, the date.
I notice the single placemat within the circle of noise,
Placing my phone on the cluttered side plate,
I can feel the Christmas spirit resonating through,
The crowd of extended families unwrapping each other’s joy,
A tear drops onto my unused napkin,
My mind races with memories of family togetherness,
The phone reminds me of the unsent WhatsApp messages,
I spot the waiting team slalom through the chairs,
Out of the corner of my eye I notice a waiter offering me the red, white, or rose wine,
I must have blanked out for a quick second or two,
As for some reason I chose the red wine,
I’m not a big fan of red wine,
I notice something unexpected,
A noise behind my ear struck me subtly,
Hesitantly I turn towards the surprising situation,
“Would you like to join us?” A lady to my left asks alongside her children,
Tears flood my unconscious shirt,
“No-one should be on their own” another added “Join us!”
I graciously accept after they make the decision for me,
They share that they are from Lincoln,
As they collectively lift the small square towards their table,
I can’t believe the surge of care that I’m being shown by strangers,
Stories were poured as the red wine wrote the words to a great Christmas Lunch,
I laughed to many a tale about their previous Christmas trips,
Smiles simmer in this cauldron of enjoyment,
The red wine even produced miracles,
Overcooked beef became irrelevant in the cape of chuckles,
To be included in such a positive way, real and not in a forced manner,
Opening the door to showcase the missing piece on the mantle of Christmas,
I’m glad I chose to go down the stairs,
I felt a little overwhelmed by all the morning family togetherness being showcased,
But my faith in humanity has been restored,
As long as the flickering light within the hand of Christmas remains,
I will try my best to rise to most challenges,
As today a small gesture had a hugely heartwarming effect,
A large impact that will not fade in time.
He entered the hall and took a seat
in the back row, trying to be discreet
Something in the expression he wore
seemed to convey that he knew more
I stood before him and said, I know.
He smiled at me, kind eyes aglow.
"Tell me, child, what do you see in me."
Hesitantly, I phrased my decree...
You're a man who loves to speak,
but you rarely talk.
You're a man who loves to preach,
but you rarely walk.*
"My life, I gave by choice," he replied.
He continued in me to confide...
"Gladly would I cherish to walk
and of heavenly things I will talk."
*Quoted from the poet, Sea Salty.
Mesmerizing trance
Seductive dance
Bouncing flames
Endlessly change
Feel fire’s soul
Rising from the coal
Warm and inviting
Seductively enticing
I’m drawn deep inside
Where the secrets hide
Where oxygen thrives
Keeping flames alive
I want the heat
the flickering beat
as flames rise up
and then retreat
Starve the fire
of oxygen and wood
and it’s soul soon dies
As a human life would
Comforting to know
that it burns for me
I need the certainty
Even when I can’t see
Near enough
to feel the heat
Wanting consumption
to feel complete
Against my will
Denying the thrill
I hesitantly turn
Fearing the burn
Nurturing the fire
Takes more than desire
to watch the flames
as they dance higher
It’s the core inside
where life resides
flames now retreating
Fire’s heart slows beating
Embers glowing
not ever knowing
Will life reignite
or extinguish tonight
Knowing that soon
With naught to consume
Fire’s beauty will just
Becomes ashes and dust
Blackened and dark
No hint of a spark
Feeling the cold
Fire’s secrets untold
