Best Halfway Poems
He wears his frame with dignity.
Moves amongst the throng with confidence,
with a buoyant outlook
that defies everything malignant.
He magnifies his letters until
they are neon bright and shining
messages for his eyes alone
And augments sound until
each letter thrills like a breathless
poem, spoken for his ears alone.
Can he see right through the covert
messages people send through
thick air like fog suffocating?
(We think he cannot, we think he
fails, we think he doesn't see the
labyrinthine manipulations people
use for information and interaction.)
Can he hear those hidden connotations
of words?
(We think he cannot,
we think he fails, we think he hears
only one track of a multitrack tape.)
He rides his chair with poise,
loves with afflatus, with fire,
animus and anima. And leaves behind
what cannot be carried into the
present. But finds in the past a
strength to fight and avenge, not
revenge. Find justice for those
denied in the past and today.
He smiles, smile with him, and
meet him halfway, he is new.

"Meet Me Halfway"
by: Eric L. Boddie
I'm so sick of this....I'm wrong, you're wrong
Baby please....I'm so tired of playing that song
It's only us, me and you, only we can be right
Don't give up on us now....help me in this fight
Let's put the past where it belongs, behind us in the dust
Help me prove that what we have is more than just lust
We said we'd last forever, but that road sometimes gets rough
Baby look inside your heart, I know our Love is more than enough
To keep us on the course, we can't let this Love leave our sight
Let's stop these silly games, and I mean, let's start it tonight
I can't stand to see us like this, don't you remember how it was
I want all the strings attached because that's just what Love does
I don't know what to do, but I am going to make you see
Just how much I Love you because I know you Love me
We have to be together, I just don't know what else to say
This is about us, not me and you, baby please, meet me halfway

As loving you no longer lingers,
Against my hand of broken fingers
Of which I've washed the Past away
(The second skin I've shed today!)
To block, to shield, to guard- protect!
But will it last the length to trek?
I'll run right and you leap left,
Our rendezvous to be discreet
Forward, backward we progress-
And in the middle we will meet
*based partly on a lover's spat and a Radiohead song ;)

Getting it out with a good shout
Now don't go and pout
Deep down inside so riddled with doubt
Need to find a safer route
Tired of fighting these heartfelt bouts
Our freedom has a way of holding the past
Before you know it you have crossed the bridge to fast
Having something special that would've of last
Oh the regrets of today
Such a heavy price we have to pay
When we just want to stay out and play
When respect goes a long ways
You can't back up with what you say
Instead, you take a different pathway
I have always prayed
That our friendship wouldn't decay
Things get broken when we don't meet halfway
Which puts us on a different highway
Alone feeling like we have just run away
Wanting to replay
All those wonderful memories of our yesterday
If you just would've understood all the love I conveyed
Then I wouldn't be walking away feeling betrayed
Instead of watching the sunset across the bay
Bad choices that ruin a perfect ballet
You just let the good times slip away
Making it feel like you have overstayed
Time to find a stronger airway
That leads to the right kind foreplay
A woman who lives up to what she portrays
Rather then stowaway on the wings of a friends heart
Knowing this would only break us apart
You knew I wanted love from the very start
Now I'm letting go as it's time to depart
I walk away with a dagger through my heart
Because the fire has gone all dark

Some call it a halfway house because it's halfway between hell and living,
but living that way isn't really living at all; it's just a slower way of dying, friend.
Your self-imposed life sentence is hereby commuted to time served + 100
years in a halfway house; humbling yourself is your only path to redemption,
friend.
Your only chance at redemption, that is, friend. You can live like a good man,
but that won't make you a good man, friend. Only a chance, don't forget that,
friend.
We're going to die one way or the other, so it don't really matter if it's slow or
fast. But I reckon that 100 years of being humbled is going to feel pretty long,
friend.
Halfway house. What kind of fool would build a house halfway's to anyplace?
Never mind halfway's to hell. That's what I call a real fool, if you're asking me,
friend.
But, it got built and here it is, friend. Halfway to hell and halfway to living. Try
to live like a good man and stay out of trouble. Remember, that's your only
chance, friend.
So, here you are, halfway. You can surely feel the heat, can't you? But you can
barely hear the sounds of living, coming from the other direction. Can you,
friend?
It's really closer to hell than halfway; well, it feels like it anyways, most days
that is. Some days, you can almost remember what living felt like. But only
some days, friend.
Halfway's to hell and halfway's to being a good man. Well, like I said before, it's
a chance, friend. Stay humble, now, you hear? Only 100 years left to go,
friend.

Having passed the midpoint, I came to a stall.
The known half’s behind me, the future ain’t clear,
all those years gone shifting, from gear to gear.
No U-turns allowed, one way gotta roll,
can not pull the same old tricks, thrills and spills an’ all.
What was distant now seems near
halfway down the road.

I met you halfway.
Why did you have to take the bigger half?
I held your heart in my broken fingers,
my throbbing nerves were soothed by the cold.
You lashed out at me,
breaking through my second skin.
Perhaps you thought it was armor.
Leaving me sitting,
crying,
halfway between heartache and sorrow.
I looked at you with contorted eyes.
Listened with my popped eardrums.
You sang your maniacal song.
Fortunately I could not hear,
I was halfway under the ocean of my fears.
Afraid of losing you,
being lost in you,
losing my mind.
Halfway not moving,
stuck.
Wanting you.
Why you?
Why me?
There can be no meeting halfway!
I chose different,
that was no place to stay.
I turned,
I ran,
went my seperate way.
All the while you chose,
to sit and cry.
For some strange reason stayed.
Locked,
lost,
in our yesterday.
Halfway from reaching,
grasping,
understanding,
that for us,
there is no tomorrow.

You and I, Love, are halfway there.
Each content with what we've found--
In spite of kids and strife,
And struggles with mid-life,
We've had the good sense to stick around.
Both looking forward, walking together,
Ever onward, hopefully forever.
Yes, you and I, Love, are halfway there.
YOU and I, LORD, are halfway there.
Each day I'm heading towards home.
In spite of sins committed,
And/or good deeds omitted,
YOU've never left me all alone.
YOU encourage me to do what's right,
Foresaking darkness to seek the light.
Yes, YOU and I, LORD, are halfway there.

He called for my help and hurried I came
I helped as needed, it was a piece of cake
Then at the side of my eye
I saw the hidden knife by
His acting was so good, I was an easy game
I thought of so many solutions
To this horrific revelation
I thought of using some gas on him
I thought of locking the door behind him
No knife on my back, so the dream was due for cancellation
I am proud of my subconscious
Pulling out in the middle of the heat was very courageous
No screams without sound in my dream
No running without speed in my dream
And my back was still smooth, good morning precious

On such a winter’s day
The sea and sky dark grey
My hair in disarray
I taste the salty spray
And though so far away
Your words I still replay
With aching heart I pray
That you’ll return to stay…
So come, let’s meet halfway
Forgiveness on display.

It lurks there, fitfully
around the corner of my mind
and will not show its face
like an April thunderfront, and
scarce aware that winter slipped away
a week ago behind a cloud of consciousness,
reluctantly occludes the air with nebulosity,
a shy Olympus in denial.
It moves within my chest, a void
creating sleep, denying it
as some sardonic phantom torture
just outside the room...
the stillness its ally...
the calm a faithless sanctuary,
death delayed as if my very breath were there
to test a faith that I no longer own.
What kind of ghost reality
will mock its own existence...
claim its victim with an objectivity
in doubt...a phantom court
without a charge to read,
a plaintiff unidentified?
Indeed, what kind of God
could graciously endow
his Adam in a garden home
so redolent with unseen sin
diffused before his unborn eyes?
I do not know. For though millenia
have passed, I'm only of hominidae,
my blueprint is not finished and
my paradisal masterwork
amorphous, cold beneath my touch,
and still.
