With the tremulous dark vista so far and yet so near
Abandoning my defences ~ I stand in awe ~ not in fear

 Virtuoso Maestro unleash
       a Composition Grandioso
              To Overtures of a Symphony
                   herald the raging storming Tempo
                                   Staccato Strains cascading
rapid torrents of Treble and Tremolo
                    Rhythmic Beats a Prelude
to an intensifying Triple Time Scherzo

Silken sail unfurled I embrace the storm of your tempestuous symphony
Crashing~ drifting~ floating~ flowing~ tasting ~awakening my melodic epiphany

                               Effervescent chilling thrilling air as
                    Allegro whelms Allegretto
                               Electrifying sizzling Musette ~
                                         Trills a mesmeric Capriccio
                           Registers booming Bass Notes
                    rumbling within your thunderous Vibrato
    Echoing claps of thunder Prompt
                a spectacular Cadence Crescendo

I release my Spirit to gratify every phantasy in its sight
The soaring Tempest of my Soul liberates its own Philharmonic flight
Inhibitions abandoned as I succumb to your Music of the Night

Footnote:
By way of musical term allegory, I have endeavored to dramatize and romanticize the Awesomeness of an Electrical Thunderstorm and simultaneously likening it to the rush of tactual Sensual, Sexuality and Emotions experienced in romantic instances. I felt that the instrumental rendition of ‘The Phantom’ Musical, aptly accentuates the trepidation, anticipation and elating sentiments portrayed in the various elements of my poem.

Premium Member Adrift In the Midst of Gladness and Sadness

Walking upon silent parched paths,
under speechless scarlet skies.
Your name sits upon the tip of my tongue,
listening to the susurration of my heart.
Each vibration echoes tones of lament,
conflicted by the principles of time.

Adrift in the midst of gladness and sadness,
in a plot without a twist, lost in blackness and slackness,
through turbulent trials, I yearn for you to return.

Distance remains an unknown intangible pain,
but visions of your timid cute brown eyes remain.
How your mouthwatering scent seduced senses.
How your luscious lips dissolved all walled defences.
Now I yearn for queen of my heart to re-appear,
to sleep in each others arms, into the new year.

Adrift in the midst of gladness and sadness,
in a plot without a twist, lost in blackness and slackness,
through turbulent trials, I yearn for you to return.

Without you the mind is misplaced in marshlands,
where intimacy is lost to complex riddles called life.
Under cold ebony skies, your memories flicker like candlelight,
you are the flame, which insulates my heart with devotional delight.

Wanted to experiment with a mix free verse and rhyme.
After contemplating calling it a free verse or rhyme, I settled for lyric.
Maybe an idea for a contest.

Premium Member Love In the Trenches

Now this is my definition of love
It's much like wrestling in the mud
You get down and dirty
And say things quite flirty
Then it all comes together with a thud

You scream out bloody murder together
Promise your undying love forever
Roll over and whisper
The name of her sister
Then you realize that wasn't too clever

She pummels your head without any mercy
You attempt to defend 'gainst her fury
You start to see rainbows
And a bunch of pretty halos
A ferocious little dynamo this girlie

Well eventually you recover your senses
And are able to put up some defences
You plant a big smacker
On this sweet li'l attacker
Then it's back to love in the trenches

Embattled

They burst forth and charge downwards
Matching uniforms shiny against the grey sky
Their only desire to smash suicidally upon our ranks
We hear the thunder of them coming, and carefully prepare
The vanguard already lie smashed upon the ground
The rest will soon swell the regiments of the defeated
Moments before they arrive we deploy our umbrellas
Countless warriors smash harmlessly inches above our heads
Their watery remains dripping from our defences
Mingling with those of their already fallen brethren

Someone I Once Knew

She had a smile, I remember.

A slightly crooked,

honest smile,

that showed me she was someone I could love.

So when her eyes in bed held mine,

all of my deceits became impossibilities,

and all of my defences, but transparent flimsies.

What was it she exposed?

And from where within me?

Was that a fragment of my soul

she held before me?

I never knew I had one.

But she knew

all of me.

Nature's Gift

I never move,
Just patiently sit,
I wait for no-one at all.
I'm a home to many,
Stranger to none.
The lungs of the Earth I've been called.

Both dog and cat will frequent me,
I'm shelter from the rain.
The air you breathe has gone through me
And through the cycle again.

Against attack I have no defences,
Still careless man is so relentless.

I stand between both you and the Sun
Enduring the elements one by one.

I'm a living monument, a necessity.
Just look up
I am
A tree.

Premium Member Pandemic Panacea

Disrespecter of borders,colour and creed
This pandemic reveals a truth we all must heed
To know that we are all but one and the same
Beneath our skin and culture in this life's game
Where we suffer the sad symptoms and the pain
To reclaim our common brotherhood again
From this dark cloud a silver lining brightens
So that belief in our unity heightens

Such grim moments see us drop our defences
Allowing us clearly to come to our senses
Whether rich or poor, white or black, young or old
In shared humanity we find our true gold
So let this plain message ring out loud and clear
When acting together we have naught to fear.

Premium Member The Last Token Chance

So many times he’s needed a friend,
his wine only lasts until
the bottle reaches the end,
so many days in ruin
following the trend, those lost in hours
indulging in proof of the Scottish blend,
yet one day
at the crossroads he did linger,
four signs of directions
his mind forced into reflections,
lifts a hand and points a finger
remembers the days, before
those of a singer,
living next door with eyes of green
he sees her now surely not a dream,
when as an army
she penetrates his defences
blows away his mordant mind,
brings him back to his senses
with lashes of love that bind.

THE WORLD OUTSIDE

THE WORLD OUTSIDE

Be inspired by nature in the raw
At its core, a real and living thing
It can bring life to all the senses
No defences, just lost in wonder
What lies under, often hard to see
A long history, but is always new

Many, by tech, can be engrossed
For most, life never has to be real
Can they feel like many others do
What is true should be embraced
Smell and taste, sound and vision

After watching hours of animation
No consideration of world reality
Fake normality is a tempting trap
Just flick and tap on a tiny screen
Life between two kinds of artifice

Premium Member Daughter of the Gods

Love is blind
To all the perils
That lie dormant in the mind
Beyond the limits of transgression.

A mortal maiden golden-haired
Priestess of Athena, daughter of the gods
By Poseidon with persuasive honeyed words was wooed
She melted in their alluring warmth and charm.

With guile concealed and flattery he urged her on
Her defences crumbled; the drawbridge lowered
To reveal the gateway to her heart
Forgotten were the vows of celibacy.

Beneath his touch her senses reeled
Her eyelids closed in expectation
He took his chance with urgent need and greed
Her virgin spoils were taken.

As trembling bodies rode the waves of love and lust
Tremors shook the earth, the ocean heaved; the wind enraged
Swept o’er the land and lightning flashed across the sky.
Such was the wrath of gods defied and disobeyed
Terrible and eternal punishment they bestowed.

The mortal maiden golden-haired
A repulsive hideous monster she became
Her fair unblemished skin gave way to loathsome green
Her bloodshot eyes in terror gazed, their previous lustre gone
Each lock of hair a writhing snake that hissed and spouted venom.

Condemned beyond mercy she fled to distant land
Where cursed and shunned she lived in great despair
Turning into stone whosoever fell beneath her vengeful gaze.

At last Perseus took her life. Aided by Athena’s mirrored shield
His scythe tore into flesh and bone; her severed head was lifted high.
Medusa’s misery and shame came to an end
Death – the final liberating act.

Hyperbolic Mind

Labyrinth of headache and heartache
Cold steel walls
Surrounding and compounding
Trapped passageways
Constrict and conflict

Navigating carefully
To avoid the hellish realms
Checking my three and my six
But still exist my qualms

The lava burns as my stomach churns
The firey glow awaits regardless of my turn
Finally i've been ensnared
And so I sigh and despair
I was expecting the curse
And so I bid thee
Do thy worst

How naive
How comically foolish!

The embers surge into my eyes
Siring, stinging, burning
Whites falling to red dyes
Pain, needles, drying
I seal it tight and my muscles fight
Tears seep out through impenetrable defences
And again, the blinding light
Locked up lids
But of the needles I cannot rid
Fire, fire, massive torrents of pain
World blurs as fists swing into tiles
Anger, consuming!
Must withhold for a while...

Blinded like a bat
My eyes scream and complain
WHAT IS VISION?!
For all I know is pain
To forgo the hurt and the heck
Please
Tell me i'm near death

The tissue is clutched
Forced into my face
Ahhh, cleansing serenity
The needles, done away

Then I got out of the shower

The Geometry of a Love Gone Wrong

Drawing lines between shapes of grief
Going in circles, awaiting the lietmotif
Now just a side of a triangular run.
With defences up like the Pentagon.

Then finally looking Love square in the face
While Hope's line slopes down in disgrace
Calculating a Geometry too disjoint
For Love to have a basic point.

Real Men

Seriously do real men need to groom?
spend so many hours on their appearance
slapping on face creams, applying perfume,
deodorant sprays or designer scents,

Seriously do real men need to compete?
prove their stamina, show their fitness
kiss and tell, outspoken never discreet,
courageous, total self belief, fearless,

Seriously do real men hide emotions?
always be in control of their senses
never express love or write love poems,
show no emotions, emotional defences,

Seriously do needs of real men, really matter?
are they superficial? not needs, just wants,
selfish attention seeking, constant nagger,
not worth knowing, no need for a response,

Seriously does being a real man mean integrity?
being truthful, showing sympathy, love,
affection, discretion, express sincerity,
or just be himself, just doing all the above.

But Seriously What is a real man?
