Best Deep Set Poems
She returns my gaze when I'm too restless to sleep
a lustrous pearl mounted, deep set in a sapphire sky
I lie awake in my room, papered in spider spun silk
Slumber is allusive to us tonight; the moon and I
I wonder what thoughts she holds in her heart
Surely not man's doctrine of trivial pragmatism
Not by the one who rules the tide's ebb and flow
Her mellow glow is a healing ointment of chrism
steel clouds once more freeze
bare trees comfort each other
ripped trunk holds it together
the sun shields its eyes
its flames dying in Winter
the core feels the biting chill
it is in my bones
deep set; can’t shake off the wolf
its gray-fur-stare is howling
my hands crisp and crack
tips and knuckles peel like bark
soulless rain drips down the oaks
my knees turn from lies
thinking themselves well in Spring
they limp like twigs before snap
cerise cheeks remind
the otherwise bleak weather
that seasons will change in time
sun will siphon miasma
You possess me with those eyes of pyromania
a tidal wave of temptation thrashing into my need for euphoria
romanticized on appetite for agile reckoning of kiss ravishing, harnessing my hysteria,
plumed with lashes lent from love's wings, curling wet wishing
brows preened sexy mean, fur strip stiring me,
hypnotized by your hot umber rings
I learn how suspense stings
circles of crave unbuckling my brazen brandishing,
deep set on my desire I'm unraveling for the vixen fire, heart sweating,
born from the brown of beauty's sweetest warmth
eyes that bite and suck the stress
right out of my soul's duress,
for you I go forth...

You possess me with those eyes of eagle blue
you use a single glance my hesitancy to unglue
soaring in the sky of my sweetened fantasy
these blue crystal orbs foretell of ecstasy
But first...the hunt...looking for prey - it's true
it's you - the Eagle
brutally brave and fiercely famished
you glide on the wind of my desire
your wings ablaze with fire
your eyes fierce, Oh, how they pierce
again and again
my inner sanctum deep
their hue puts the sky to shame
demanding passion and cravings untame
they bore deep into me
slashing bonds of inhibition free
Our eyes speak
Brown and Blue
Me and You...
in your eyes the need to seize
in mine, the need to please
yours dominate
mine capitulate
yours subjugate
mine consummate,
your eyes speak...
mine respond...Bonded, we belong
Eagle and Dove
poetry love
Our eyes speak...
A Collaboration Made From The Quills Of Justin & Eileen
When the orange edge of the sun rises
above silver tint hues of an endless horizon
I sway with silent elegance in the meadow of your heart
You 'd pick up all scattered petals from dusty pages of the past.
And there you find my concealed love...
It is then when you recall untainted colours of the promise
forgotten truths and everlasting us.
It is there where you blow softly your Spring breezes
in gardens of fragrant nights
So that in a tomorrow,this unpretentious margarita
would waft its aromatic scent
once more in those amorous deep-set eyes.
Slowly It falls untamed,innocent,and pure, like a child's dream
in the tight-pull of your never-leaving arms.
The traveler reeked of weariness,
His companion was Fatigue
Wear upon his clothes suggest
He'd come a million league.
Gaunt were eyes deep set and brown
Above his cheekbones high
His being was pure somnolence
And I heard his silent cry.
Hard roads had been his travel
The pains chiseled on his face
In lines of furrows on his brow
Permanently enlaced
Around I saw no motion there, then ...
His head began to rise
Finally he looked at me ...
Suffering in his eyes.
So quietly I attended
And with a heavy heart
I wanted so to speak to him ...
But knew not how to start
Within his labored breathing
He then began to speak
His words, when finally spoken
Were truthful and unique
His lips worked to form the words -
Then said; "My name is: Common Man,
I'm a father; I've worked hard;
' always done the best I can.
"The road's become uphill and steep with
Burdens I can't propel
I've tried to move on forward -
But, I stumbled here - and fell.
"There are others on me
Who so do depend
I must move on forward,
This mustn't be my end.
"Now I must reach out to you
'Cause before I've never failed
I'm turning now to you
'Fore on hardships I'm impaled".
A calloused hand then extended
Toward my outstretched hand
And I want to heed the call
For this Common Man.
But, Greed and Avarice have won
And assistance can't be lent -
Wall Street, you see, owns me now:
I'm Your Government.
Dedicated to Kyle, My Darling Son
A kaleidoscope’s blossoms are not as awesome
as my child at every turn; watching his silences –
I burn, watching his movements – I yearn.
I learn love's wonderment watching him discern.
Toddler-boy loves me content with innocence and joy.
I shout for time to slow its capture of my boy.
Give me endless days and countless ways
to watch my miracle grow. Sunshine, moon glow,
build him a perfect rainbow so that he may know
the wonder of the love I try so hard to show.
Loyal, gentle pets
give love deep set
and when they die
I full pay grief's debt.
Friends are the prose
inspiring my rhymes.
Each would be missed
by this heart of mine.
When parents and siblings
expel their final breath,
I will mourn them
until my own day of death.
If my husband
should before me die,
my soul would cry
float adrift and dry.
But should my babe at any age
pass first in death’s grasp,
defeat would set a fatal stage
for my heart's final crash.
The moon a shawl over her shoulders
almost replacing his arms'embrace,
In her wine-glass pools of light floating
reflect the glow upon his face.
His deep-set eyes like summer ripples
carry her thought to tulip fields
Recalling sunsets when she first saw him
far from the city's unwinding streets.
Next to the old mill on a soft blanket,
patchworked from grass and falling leaves,
Its there He whispered hundred sweet nothings
The air was filled with a fragrant breeze.
Throughout this night She wanders lonely
Far from dry lands to evergreens,
Sailing alone above blue waters
to meet the author who built her dreams.
Butterfly wing door vestibule builds anticipation
Shuffled, carpet muffled greetings, familiar embraces
Piloted by Holy Spirit, seated hushed congregation
Ritual of ornate cathedral thanks hidden crypt rib cage
Enduring centuries, pliable sandstone testiment
God's following holds time proof tenacity
Flared proud corners, pyramid reminiscent
Honour continues amidst shifting society
Solid oak panelled door on wrought iron hinges
Greets round barrel key bearer with ominous groan
Down four slouching stone steps from street edge
Solo visit in sacred space never partaken alone
Curved bookcases cater for leather bound learning
Volumes of theology define best ways
Nook with desk lets liturgist imbibe God's word
Tall back chair, acorn emblems engraved
Beneath majestic vessel, clay damp chamber
Rhubarb velvet curtain, tassel tied to sides
Strongest entity relies on the Lord as Saviour
With worship's dedication, faith survives
In expansion, searcher emerges at alter, cleansed
Hive of etched arches tribute precision architectural
Vibrant robes, sashes draped, silken beacons
Of preparation, celebration of overcoming, renewal
Pulpit's ingrained memory both daunting and welcoming
Deep set lead light showers sombre pews in intimacy
Haloed Christ holds baby, shares parables with children
Crease covered hymn books strum procedural symphony

He was young, small, perhaps malnourished
Looking out from deep set eyes, rimmed with neglect
I could see, he wanted ...
To know why?
To know what? ... I did not know.
I sensed he was trying to form the words
And the questions in his mind
The words did not form on his unwashed face
He just stared.
I wanted to say: I understood
That I remembered, what it was like to be small
Surrounded by huge ‘Grown-ups
Pushed by bullies stronger than me,
always in groups of three and whispered at
by clean starched girls with bright blue eyes
Laughed at or even worse, pitied.
Years later, I saw him again
Now he was taller and tougher looking
His jeans and jacket still reeked of poverty
His eyes deeper set yet, acne skin
and oily pits around his nose.
He didn’t have that same searching stance
Now I could see he no longer cared
Now he was ready to fight
His fingers yellowed by cigarette smoke
His fingernails filled with dirt and grease
As was the collar of his shirt.
Shoelaces broken and then re-tied
with a knot covering the shoes tongue
His own tongue tucked behind thin lips
and decaying teeth.
Many years have since passed
as I happened to see his reflection
In the passing of a store front glass
Except, now I see,
He was and has always been, me.
I bask in the shell you chose
And for just one moment
I remember looking up to you
Wide eyed and astounded
I helped move the TV into your trailer
I remember Adam, I remember the dogs,
I remember you
What happened?
What years have you endured that you
stand in your mother's yard, under her tree,
declawed, defanged, dessicated
so small
How dare you look up at me,
How dare you break away from your crypt,
You were a cautionary tale.
I
I can't find myself to be angry,
Not in the way that I used to be.
Besides,
You've done ten rounds with another demon
And those bruises won't fade.
They'll seep into the deep set lines of your face.
I thought it was her under the tree.
QUIET BREATH
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
peace is not
a fragile thing
but roots
that grip to stone
and hold.
it grows
in cracks
where war left scars
deep-set like patient moss
unfolds.
no flag, no hymn,
just quiet breath
that fills
the hollowed chest
at dawn.
it waits in dust
where soldier’s footprints fade
to find
the shape of calm
worn smooth.
it knows the weight
of silence when
all words
have burned away
like chaff.
peace remains like frost
on sleeping leaves—
a gift
the night bestows
The higher heavens kept her secret
that love once kindled, doesn’t perish with distance
It burns in the marrow, it gleams in the wound
Endless falls of the Sun’s golden tears
filling cups of sorrow with a final goodbye
Freya weeps for her lover destined never to return
she leans on the hammered gold wall
with partial face aglow and a deep-set eyelid closed
amber ringlet waves coiled, goldschläger drips
from the Norse Goddess this your myth of olde
its Óðr she longs for
Of divine madness
drowns tomorrow
she fills the regal rivers
and every tear fell from her
...glimmers lux vitae
Wash your hands before you eat
For two minutes at least
Let it cook well that meat
Before you bid it welcome into your gut.
I see you running to and fro
The little office is ours no more
A little stool sits outside the door
And beside it... almost gone lies the tissue on the floor.
You cry in pain as your stomach rumbles
Inside your belly feels like a wild jungle
Where lions roar and elephants trample
Well I warned you first so do not grumble.
Can’t see your eyes they’re soo deep set
Your skin is dry and screaming with thirst
You are losing water two ways and yet…
We’ve been taught but listen you won’t.
There is only one cure and this is it
Wash your hands before you eat
Before you drink please that water treat
Fruits are yummy but wash ‘em first.
