Shake Off the Wolf

steel clouds once more freeze
bare trees comfort each other
ripped trunk holds it together

the sun shields its eyes
its flames dying in Winter
the core feels the biting chill

it is in my bones
deep set; can’t shake off the wolf
its gray-fur-stare is howling

my hands crisp and crack
tips and knuckles peel like bark
soulless rain drips down the oaks

my knees turn from lies
thinking themselves well in Spring
they limp like twigs before snap

cerise cheeks remind
the otherwise bleak weather
that seasons will change in time

sun will siphon miasma

Hi Kim, this is a very clever but deep one, arouses my mind to wake up as from a stupor. I'm trying to stir myself to write again and reading talented poets to inspire me

Let us console ourselves with the thought that "If winter comes, can spring be far behind". The biting chill of winter is beautifully conveyed. A lovely poem. Congratulations on your well deserved POTD and also on your win in Brian's contest !

Dear Kim, after reading your words, staying inside where it's nice and warm, sounds very inviting; indeed. So many reasons to like this season, but feeling the winter wind across delicate skin, isn't one of them. You've painted so many vivid images with your words. Congratulations my dear friend, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy

Congratulations on your POTD Kim Rodriques with an (s)! This seems a lot deeper though than a wintery day, described to pure detail and so well-done, chilling. Perhaps you're experiencing pre- "Wolf Moon" deliverance -- It reaches exact fullness tonight at 12:54 P.M. Eastern Time through the 25th! haha Hugs & stay warm

There are many very poetic phrases in this one, Kim. the sun's "flames dying in Winter," and the theme of not being able to shake off the wolf. Your personification is so vivid that I felt sorry for the monolithic trees having to stand in the cold, bare branched naked. Kudos for it being chosen poem of the day.
