Best Cookouts Poems
Promises, Promises...boldy broken
I spite these words when hastily spoken
The act pledged is almost never the issue
it's the scanning of priorties...somehow they missed you!!
You would never have held breath and waited
But the promiser spoke, declaritively stated...
"I will..." "We'll Go...." "Real soon..." "I promise..."
You'd have no reason not to take them at honest...
From as far back as I can remember
every promise I heard was "return to sender"
The phone would ring, my heart would sing
voice on the other end says...."forget the whole thing"
No fishing trips, campouts, or cookouts...look out!
Every time my hopes were up, then hooked out...
I died each time they let me down
when they picked me up, then set me down
when I had to kick start the merry-go-round
sat in an unpushed swing at the play ground...
So thinking back, I know it's why
I see a broken promise like a boldface lie
I hate nothing more than when words are hollow
when an oral oath lacks the action to follow
Trust breaks down when mouths, they run
Hold your tongue then no harm is done!!
Inspired by Michael's "What gets your Goat" contest!!
The grass "dewed" in spring’s early morning shimmer
Upon a crocus lay an "alula" in the sun with a glimmer
A symbol of many flights on every "level" there is to be
Whether it be "solos" or those together, feeling free
Often at "noon" Robin hop across the sunny land
Their "stots" fun to watch, then so still they do stand
Summer brings the "pop" of fireworks in the sky to see
Hummingbirds, "kayak", cookouts and bumble bee
Fall for me can sometimes bring on a "doom mood"
As fun summer "sagas" end, squirrels scramble for food
Winter looms but "live not evil", for there is Christmas "Eve"
Followed by Christmas, a "tenet" most important to believe

Home Is Where The Heart Is
Oh my goodness
"Lets Party, Family Reunion"
Family of 10
Its all good, we stay close knit
Look forward to cookouts
Mardi Gras here is a big hit
Our seafood is the best, fresh from the bayou
My moms the best cook
Shrimp boulettes, jambalaya, just to name a few
Born on the bayou, its in my blood
Could never leave here
Louisiana is where I spent my girlhood

In New Hampshire their state motto is “Live Free or Die,”
And they will be celebrating that freedom this fourth of July.
At Mt. Washington the splendid fireworks will celebrate this nation,
And the band will play patriotic music to a standing ovation.
There will be cookouts, picnics, and ice cream across the land,
And in the “Live Free or Die” state, the party will be grand!
The band will play the “Stars and Stripes,” and the people will cheer…
Thanking God for our independence, and another great year!
Smoke rises in every direction,
staining blue skies with pale shades of grey;
Molten coals--they deliver convection,
to the meats laid an orderly way,
busily emanating aromatic bouquets.
Termed 'Barbecues' or 'Pickin's--by plain folk,
toiling sunrise till often sunset;
to dispense the real magic in hot smoke,
produced by mere gas or briquette,
and the labors of pure human sweat.
In the end, wafting smoke teases senses,
anticipating succulence traced;
to 'cookouts' that sometimes mend fences,
tween those who oft gather in haste,
for that scent of 'the good life,' in taste!
It is time to get back to school,
seeing all our missed friends.
Closet cleaning and shopping,
we need some warmer clothes.
The beach and pool have been,
sent on a vacation.
The cookouts are all gone,
being replace with holiday eats.
This is what happens,
when summer is gone.
Do not fret,
summer will return in all it's glory.
Summer days are filled with fun
just spending time with all our friends
while raising glasses, giving cheers.
Backyard cookouts Saturdays,
the charcoal scent wafts in the air
while grilling steaks and drinking beers.
Standing ‘round the charcoal pit
and trading stories with the boys,
the tales of ones that got away.
Music playing country tunes
amidst the laughter and the fun
are just a part of summer play.
Ladies gather in the house,
and gossip shared while fixing sides
just waiting on steaks to be done.
Weekend parties quite the thing;
friends gathered ‘round and spreading cheer
as summer days are filled with fun.

Flags gently waving in the breeze
Outdoor concerts playing patriotic songs
Unified as one nation for the freedom we enjoy
Racing with friends for…
The best seat to see the fireworks
Honoring past American heroes that gave us our freedom
Outdoor cookouts with family and friends
Fun for all roasting marshmallows & making s’mores
Joking around the fire pit with family and friends
Underneath the night sky, with your loved ones
Looking up to see the brilliant display of fireworks
Yearning for this special holiday to never end
my heated hopes are waxing hazy
a couple crushed for carnal crazy
sneaky you, the scheme to hatch
with her, a perfect itch to scratch
menage a trois Moirai, indeed
this triple-dip thru natural need
to savor both at once, supine
and make that spicy nectar mine
soft sugar tongues mix with my own
and instantly flesh turns to stone
such carnal cloisters, meant to be
two curvy creatures clutched to me
our tangled limbs in pretzel knots
a percale sea of naughty thoughts
how can such crazy cookouts be
to taste you two while tasting me
before I feel compunction's clasp
to let good virtue close my grasp
I'll dive this molten madness, US ...
and drown ... in fiery febrile fuss.
Growing up and now
As adults, we always
Had each other's back
We threw parties, had cookouts
Play cards and even dominos
We were a happy family until
Until an outsider came along
With a family friend
His present made chill
Bumps rise upon your body
After a few weeks
Things turned sour within
The family, because of his
Two faced and twisted lies
Began to crumble and have
Never been close again so,
Be careful who you let enter
Into your family's circle
They'll destroy it
Summer
Dawn sun-tanning
Picnics out in the park
Swallows flying high in the sky
School-out kids chasing after ice-cream trucks
Vacations, lounging on the beach
Water-sprinkler cool-offs
Outdoor cookouts

Sounds of summer...It's all around and in the air;
In towns and cities it's everywhere!
Sounds of summer...cookouts with steaks sizzling on the grill;
Music blaring, the chattering of people eating a hot meal.
Sounds of summer...Pool parties and backyard volleyball;
Block parties with people laughing with a little alcohol!
Sounds of summer...Children playing in the creek;
Running around playing Hide-and-seek.
Sounds of summer...Shrieks of laughter at the amusement park;
The sounds of summer continue even after dark......

Spring starts the year with soft flowers
Sometimes brought with gentle showers
Air fragrant with scents that devours
Hues so bright and bold that glowers
Green grass which also empowers
Rabbits hide in brush and cowers
Blue skies show their calming powers
Buds seem to open through the hours
Winter waves goodbye through scourers
Spring’s beautiful tales are all ours
~
Summer opens with stunned fervor
Welcome sun rays that do nurture
Beach trips that add life preserver
Roses in much shades add favor
Small cookouts bring the server
Birds fly past to gently murmur
Kids buy cones in every flavor
Trimming hedges seems so clever
Lawns are mown for the observer
Summer’s joy, the perfect merger
~
Autumn creates a sense of peace
With leaves falling softly to cease
Limbs stark and naked to decease
Mums create a vivid showpiece
Lakes say sad goodbyes to the geese
The crunch of the leaves does increase
Bouncing in raked leaves is caprice
Some take nature walks without fleece
These cheerful blushes are so nice
Autumn’s certainly God’s showpiece
~
Winter brings in the harsh weather
As the birds may lose a feather
Horses bridled with smooth leather
Gigs throw snow round altogether
Some ride sleds that they will tether
Cardinals trust the snow measure
Many love snow days much better
It seems nice to wear a sweater
Ice hangs down from eaves together
Winter’s blessings are a treasure
~
Spring’s forests fill with wildflowers
A time that brings no wallflowers
Summer’s sunshine is a searcher
Some days bring about a scorcher
Autumn brings about a new lease
For a season shared with a niece
Winter’s clear skies last forever
Reminding us to take shelter
God’s paintbrush portrays the seasons
Showing us He has His reasons

I like hamburgs and hotdogs.
I even like a brat.
At cookouts it don't matter...
Just cook up what you've got.
I don't mind getting dirty.
My shoes won't stay on long.
Don't let me see you cover your ears
while I sing my favorite song.
I like to fish with live bait.
I just prefer the worms.
You'll never hear me hollar
when it wriggles and it squirms.
I'm just a natural lady.
I live with mother earth.
My family says I'm normal...
for what their opinion's worth!
Form:
I wanna live my life with
you and grow old have beautiful
babies and take care of our family.
I wanna share wonderful memories
we share with our kids.
Go on family vacations
relax in the arms of my
husband.
have cookouts with our friends,
go dancing, out to eat
watch movies.
Go camping.
Just spending time together,
watching T.V.....
Along with other things.
Going for walks thru the zoo
or just going for a stroll.
With the man I Love
and who I call my
Husband!
But you see right now my
life is dark, gloomy
and only my husband can
make it right and cheer
me up.
He is my inspiration
for living everyday.
