Best Contest Love Poems
The give and take in love should reach a mean
whereby the two be equally disbursed,
so givers' hearts would never suffer lean,
cold hungry hours without love reimbursed.
And those who take would never reach the stage
of ravenous and selfish, one-way traits.
Such balance would create a better age,
if give and take maintained their equal weights.
But somehow this could never balance out,
for givers give beyond the gifts they bear;
in turn, must feed on crumbs, for without doubt;
the hungry takers take beyond their share.
While takers tip the scale with all they gain,
the givers, weak and thin, smile through their pain.

Breathing feather-whispers ever sweetly
upon my neck, oh, how he pleases me!
Irises beneath long lashes gazing
down at me are gold-tinged and amazing.
Near moonlit water, on a beach are we,
breathing feather-whispers ever sweetly.
Our legs are intertwined; my cheek is pressed
against love’s rhythm beating in his chest.
His fingers trace the line along my spine
as stars peek down at us and brightly shine.
Breathing feather-whispers so lusciously,
caress us, Wind, before the night can flee!
Like ocean’s waves that come to kiss the land,
our passion mounts. Unbridled on the sand,
I give myself gladly and completely -
breathing feather-whispers ever sweetly.

For Russell Sivey's' Choose A Topic' Contest: Love and Romance
Just one look at you
Tempting me, teasing me, tormenting me
I hate the feelings you evoke
Greed
Desire
Lust
Just want to hold you, devour you
I don’t want to see you go
But I can never resist the last chocolate in the box!

For I Do Love You So
Like redemptive rain,
you came into my life washing away
an arid desert of lonely pain.
With heart and arms wide open,
you nurtured me with unconditional love,
creating an oasis of joy so sublime.
Your constant love, passion, and devotion
set my spirit free from the dark shadows
and gray clouds that use to haunt me.
Your enthralling essence, like a raging fire
continues to arouse and ignite my senses,
completely absorbing me…and I’m crazy about you!
Because of you, Beloved One,
my world is colored with beauty and sunshine,
and every season smiles like eternal spring time.
Like a Bird of Paradise, I blossom and bloom,
dancing on golden sunbeams, and floating
to the moon on one hundred rainbow balloons…
For you love me and I do love you so!

I remember you holding me in your arms
Rocking me gently while singing lullabies
I remember when you lived a short walk away
Relatives were local and get-togethers were the norm
I remember your amazing purple mohair sweater
You knit exquisitely and wore so gracefully
I remember your scented creams and signature ring
I never grew tired of holding your hand
And telling you how much I loved you
I remember watching in awe your bedtime routine
As you meticulously undid your braided coif
Dropping your soft wavy hair to your waist
I remember you never missed Sunday mass
And held on to that glow throughout the week
You knew about plants with their healing powers
Neighbors came to you for answers and advice
I remember how you would scrape savings for travel
Always working in visits to friends who had moved away
I remember the aroma of the pies you baked
After tireless hours of quilting, sewing, weaving
Embroidery, knitting, crocheting, and whatever else
I remember there was nothing you couldn’t do
You started tutoring me when I was three
And probably earlier as I was eager to learn
It was my favorite form of play
I remember hearing your schoolhouse stories
I’d picture a little house in a field and your teacher attire
Your turn-of-the-century class full of kids
Then I’d let you continue teaching me to read, write and count
Though I wasn’t yet of school age
I remember being uprooted and moving to the country
Leaving city life and you behind
I remember how good life was when I had you
To turn to for support and guidance
Or just for your warm bountiful embrace
I remember getting that gut wrenching feeling
That bitter call in the middle of the day
As I was told the crushing news
I would never again see, touch or hold you
How can I not remember
The inconsolable devastation that never dimmed

Darling,
Forty seven years ago, young and in love.
We fell in love on the Bobo-lo Boat.
A mutual acquaintance arranged our date.
I was eighteen and you were twenty.
You took my breath away as our eyes met,
And I must say Dear, you still do today.
Way too young to marry our parents pled mercifully.
We insisted, married, and then you went away.
The Vietnam War parted us physically,
But our love letters tied our hearts-
Tears, warm feelings in waiting hearts.
Many decades have past since our first date.
Love was worth fighting for, being brave for.
We've been through the good and the ugly.
We've learned, and built, and grew together.
I believe our true love conquered it all.
I adore seeing old people still in love-
Smiling, holding hands, and talking,
Opening a door for his sweet girl,
A gentle touch and a kiss on her crepe cheek,
Then I remember we're the old people, my dear.
Our hearts still tied together with love,
Even after all these years.
Forever Always my darling.

Love is a flower garden,
An ocean of emotions;
Photographs of memories,
Love is a journey.
There are many kinds of love,
A lover's embrace and kiss;
Love of family and friends,
The love of a pet.
Love of nature and the world,
Mankind and all creatures;
For me, the love of poetry,
And, I love you God.
Oh, love turns the world around,
Love is stronger than a war;
Hate, jealousy have no chance,
Love, a fragile bud . . .

First Place
Hot August, 1974, I was back for my second year at college,
having just settled into a new place at Anita Apartments,
right next to the guys’ apartment complex called Tanner’s.
My first night, we answered a knock at our door.
Steve Dietrich, a friend of my roommate, entered our apartment,
but my eyes went immediately to the younger man with him.
That would be his brother Joel, there for his first year at BYU.
My first thought was this: How shy he is, so reserved. . . but so adorable.
He was tall and thin and cute as the dickens.
They stayed for just a while, and by the time they left,
I’d formulated my big plan:
to get to know this boy Joel (who everyone just called Joe).
There was to be a parking lot dance that weekend,
and so I waited expectantly, hoping all week
to catch a glimpse of this boy I’d found so attractive,
but no matter how often I strolled past his apartment,
my opportunity for a “chance encounter” never occurred.
The night of the dance arrived and I was right there,
all decked out in my colorful tight top with bellbottoms,
long luscious lashes curled and pink frost lipstick applied.
When I caught sight of Joel, he was slow dancing with some girl.
A blonde with glasses, she was rather plain and smaller than me.
I was not pleased to see her with Joe, and I thought to myself:
Hmmmm, who does she think she is? I saw him first,
and he is NOT going to stay with her tonight.
As they danced, I fixed my eyes on him,
my beautiful, long-lashed, sultry green eyes.
He looked up and saw me then. I must have taken him by surprise
because I did not lower my gaze.
I wanted him to know that he was going to be mine,
so I willed him with my gaze to break away from that blonde
and come to me.
And so he did. . the rest is history.
Beside me at this moment, lying on our bed, watching TV,
is the man who today bears little resemblance to that
very young man I met 35 years ago.
I turn to him and ask, “Do you remember the VERY first time you saw me?”
He replies, “I don’t know; a parking lot dance?”
Well, at least he came close. . .
For Frank Herrera's Contest: Love Story
Fragrant magick candlelight flickers hot,
blue, red flame stimulating sparks bind hands.
Tame harmony remains. "Love." While love awakes
a wanderer of my emboldened heart;
gentle wind meander blows, and gusts oppose.
I discern your quintessence in the breeze
emerging out of dust of dry humble ground
from I was formed ... a fleeting glance into
colorfulness night; for our love rhymes
of aged mirth; our unconditional surrendered
love eclipse with flickering light while honey
sips our lips. Bound by love and devotion
my soul embraces you …you cradle me close
a thirst to be near for all eternity.
A dwelling among this vessel knowing
that you are in me and I in you
bathing in the afterglow of sunset
under heavens studded with bright stars.

magick
NOUN
archaic spelling of magic.
Fall cold rainy days
Crisp wet leaves
Twirling and waltzing
Flying and floating
Riding October desolate gusts
Retro tunes that resuscitate
Memories of young love
Echoes of how I love you
Deep in the heart
Awakened by the sound of
Walking through wet fallen leaves
Ever so close as one
Holding on tight
Isolated in a cold sullen world
Warm enraptured hearts
Under a shared umbrella
Alone together
Along a silent canal
Riddled by a multitude of raindrops
Anxious to seek shelter
Ever so content
Creating memories

Oh Aphrodite, Goddess of love
For you, my heart yearns for Olympus on high
As my lover's eyes scan sunsets above
They pour love into the birth of a sigh
I'll follow the course of a lover's stream
To argue with Zeus over what is a sin
As we leave Olympus with love and a dream
Love will cause us to be mortal again
To make love's diamond from blackest coal
And scorch landscapes with smoldering desire
Yet, be the flames burning out of control
With mortal hands, we'll light the raging fire
Oh Aphrodite, Goddess of love
My heart will steal you from Olympus above
3/23/18 contest Love Letter II
Love is actually a dreamer's dream that's found
When hungry eyes find a warm emotional rush
And voices come to join and produce soft sound
So love's sweet breath can rest in a solemn hush
When tender hands hold tightly on sacred ground
As lips and tongues meld in their dance so lush
To feel love for someone it can overwhelm
Who yearns so unafraid in a fiery realm
8/8/17 contest Love is actually
The word Love has been tainted
I love your dress
I love your new fishing boat
I love that new color of paint
Mankind cannot love physical things
Love is heart felt for all Nature
Not mans creations
The answer lies in the heart
I love your eyes
I love your lips
I love all of you but,
I sure love those new shoes
The answer is we love things that,
Cannot love us back, this we have to stop
Love comes from the heart
Not from a store
Love is the answer but the question is
What do we love more?
Mans creations or people and nature?

Dear POETRYSOUP, Hope this finds YOU and YOURS Healthy and High in the Spirit. I am writing this on the Inspiration of Heather Ober's Contest "Love Letter". First off I want to Thank-YOU all for YOUR many Gracious Comments. They are appreciated and Inspirational. Some of YOU know about my strokes and the handicap they cause me, as far as writing any comments back to YOU. I am sorry.A few of YOU know about my stomach cancer, and how the doctors removed half of my stomach and replaced it with whatever they replace stomach lineing with. However that lining ripped and I go for surgery tomorrow. Here is my delima; After the recovery from the surgery they want me to move back to the apartment (they pay for) and leave my Cabin on the mountain for ever. I have a 24/7 nurse,(and my Spirit Nurse; Suzanne Delaney) his name is Nick and he said he would stay with me at the cabin (with a cut in pay). now I do not know why Nick is a Nurse and not a Doctor, he can do everything but surgery. sorry I am rambling.
YOU are probable saying to Yourselves "What has this got to do with LOVE? By my cabin I have a house, actually a Shrine : to my DEAREST Most Only Beloved LENORE : my
Wife. I have her POETRY, her Pictures and her Butterfly collection. I had the only thing left from Our Everlasting Day; Her Transparent White Wedding Vail, stolen 4 years ago in a break-in. So my ? to my Beloved Family : POETRYSOUP is :Should I go to the Apartment(across the street from hospital)or spend the next 6 moths to a year at the cabin where my True LOVE abides, with Doctor Nick. I LOVE YOU ALWAYS and FOREVER YOUR Loyal Liege...HGarvey Daniel Esquire Aka - Harry - HG
My Dear Precious Pearl,LENORE, I know it has only been a week since last I Wrote.
Today I write to whisper my words of LOVE in your milky white ear.
I have created a hybred Rose for YOU. A Purple Lavender
the colour of Clover,as the field where we first we knew each other.
A Rose the colour of Royalty, and Spirituality. I watered it daily with my tears of LOVE.
I sang songs of yesteryear that fell on deaf earthly ears, Yet she Bloomed
as the opening of arms longing to be hugged by YOU; My unforgettable beating of my forlorn Heart,the rythm of the melody. As I stroked the silky softness of the Petals,I dream, of spooning; of holding your tender warm teat in my hand;
of burying my face in the nape of YOUR neck.Resting in the unforgettable Joy of LOVE FOREVER and ALWAYS through the Eons of Eternity.
The Purple Lavander Rose flourishes at the Entrance of YOUR Eternity - My Eternity.
She is the symbol of my Never-Ending LOVE for YOU. May her fragrance appease YOU
and our God; until I entwine with YOU and "HE" for the Eons of Forevermore.
My Heartbeats are YOURS until again we meet in the shade of the Garden of Eden.
I LOVE YOU ALWAYS and FOREVER YOUR LOVING Husband...Harry
