Eye Contact
Some said he had those scary eyes,
unnerving, somehow seeming to look
clear through, capable of seeing the
truth – of you. They didn’t stare at
you, just sort of found you and held
you in an eerie embrace. There was
a glint to the eyes, a sharpness to
the edges, a weary, and wary, wiliness.
And yet, they drew you in, these cold
and smoldering, blue-gray questioners
of all they see. Tight lines rimmed the
edges of the pools, white tipped lashes
fanning and refocusing the laser looks.
And then they smiled, as if something
had just reminded them of a pleasing
sight, a soft sunrise rose across his face,
a gentle fox to kit wink, an unguarded
moment on the parapet of life.

I could be strolling on a river bank,
or sitting in a managed park.
I could be walking on a saltbush plain,
or where soil is parched and stark.
I could be climbing Perry sand hills;
be shaded by a Wilga tree.
I will never be there on my own -
we’re still in contact; you and me.
I could be gazing at a rainbow arc,
or clouds billowing to rain.
I could witness lightning and thunder;
stroll on a sun drenched plain.
I could see a stumpy tail upon the tar;
a mob of grazing kangaroo.
I will never be there on my own -
we’re still in contact; you and me.
I will never be there on my own -
we’re still in contact; you and me.
We talk about adventure that we had -
it seems I’m talking to nobody.
No Contact
So abrupt she was
Without any notice, rhyme or reason
She ignored and ghosted me
All contact severed
All links dead.
A month
Now two, six have gone
A year has passed
Silence becomes my companion
I get on with life, my career and my hobbies.
I have given up
The silence at first deafening
Now I grow accustomed
I have given in
And have now started to delete
All memories and contact information
To my surprise
She reaches out today
And sends me a message
And wants to contact and get back together.
I remain silent, I do not reply
As I now have grown accustomed to no contact
Because you taught me, no contact is my best reply.
Contact.
I live for it.
Whether it is of the eyes or a pleasant scent to the noes.
This contact could be as simple as landing in your presence
like an alien landing on earth I want to explore your herbs.
Contact.
It puts my senses on overload.
Contact like my lips hungrily reaching yours.
I crave for it.
I've dreamt of it.
Body to body contact.
Mind to mind contact.
Contact through a text or a phone call.
The moment my eyes see that blush of color
on your face sends a message of contact to my brain
saying that you want the same type of contact I've been hoping for.
So what is next after that type of confirmation?
The contact of the door hitting the lock and
than the contact of skin on top of skin.
And the heat of our body temperatures rising.
I have made contact.
Once knew a lad who called himself Brad
From a very young age Brad was football mad
Till one day a sweet Miss
Gave Brad a big kiss
The best contact sport that Brad ever had

When you eat chicken, you get chicken-pox.
When you play polo, you catch polio.
When you color,you catch cholera.
When you descend on people you catch dysentry.
When you like harvesting potato tubers you catch tuberculosis.
When you steal answer you catch cancer.
When you don't like people you catch Aids.
When you eat from a dish in a cafeteria you catch diphteria.
If you continue to tie your headtie you'll get typhoid.
It was nothing but eye contact
Because we haven't uttered a word
That was all we could do to interact
I prayed for the right decision from the lord
Didn't matter how beautiful her eyes were
Because they stabbed me in the heart…..
Like a cutting edge sword
It was nothing but eye contact
Because honestly I was afraid to act
Though I knew she wanted and expected me to
But I had no courage to make it through
It was nothing but eye contact
I know she was disappointed in me
But she had to forgive me
Because a high school student could do what?
Actually he anything could do not!
It was nothing but eye contact
But eventually I even lost it
Hiding her eyes from me was a fact
And that price I could never cost it!
It was nothing but eye contact
Though she tried many times…..
To make a conversation
I was avoiding her with no real explanation
What made us apart and kept the separation
Were my unreasonable fears and hesitation
It was nothing but eye contact
For months we didn't speak a word
I was worrying about her and my feet got cold
But she didn't care about people and was so bold
Will she ever tear up that page or even fold?
Will I ever get a chance to tell her….
What I should have told?
It was nothing but eye contact
But when she showed me her love
I didn't know how to react
The only thing I did was putting her off
She may never know how for me that was tough
Though I did that for her own sake
I still blame myself for it….
As my own mistake!
It was nothing but eye contact
Will I ever forget her glamorous hazel eyes…..
And her cute dimples when she smiles?
Will I ever forget how funny she is and pretty?
And how playful she is just like a little kitty!
It was nothing but eye contact
What I can never forget is our last look
And how painful it was and how long it took
I've been searching but……
Couldn't find out in any book
About that way to say good bye!
It was nothing but eye contact
And our eyes had a pact
Which was broken…..
The moment I saw her eyes sad and red
Since then our eyes never met
And my heart knew it was the end
It was my fault that I now regret
The love that out of my hands slipped
Because it was nothing but eye contact!
"But Motek, it's Hanukkah!
You MUST be with the FAMILY on HANUKKAH!!"
(Ok Mom, sure Mom, right away Mom, I'll come home)
"Rabbi Grossman DOES do such LOVELY services!
Every Jew in Suffolk County will be there!
Challah Bread! Matza Ball Soup! SONGS on the ACCORDION!"
(Merry, cheery, Hava Nagilla surface tension happiness...)
"Smile everyone, and I'll take a picture!!!"
(CHEESE!!!!)
"Motek... I DO wish you spoke with him already...
I mean, it's been over a YEAR now...notta WORD!
It BREAKS my heart to see you two like this..."
(I'm sorry Mom)
"I mean honest to ELOHIM!!
Brothers should LOVE each other!!!
How can you be so NONCHALANT about this???
Breaks my heart."
(Your answer lies right in front of you Mom,
You just need to know where to look...and where not to)
Poised on the end of your finger tip, you open your eyelid wide,
it pops straight onto your iris and you barely even tried.
When it comes to removing it, it’s an entirely different ball game,
you gently try to slide it out and almost end up maimed.
Why is it something that is so thin, can feel like a brick,
and why can’t you find it when on your eyeball it did stick?
An Alien Reports Human Contact
By Elton Camp
A UFO pilot informs his superiors
The planet with bipedal life forms teems
Their lives depend on an object, it seems
Which, in their possession, they keep
Except at the times when they sleep
As soon as they begin to rove around
It will emit a strange electronic sound
To their ear opening they will press
In speech sounds began to address
Although it might seem rather odd
It may be how they worship their god
They talk a bit and then there’s a break
Perhaps from their god instructions take
A signal, the life forms needn’t wait
But communication can also initiate
They enter numbers and press Send
Once more, their worship may begin
A planet with intelligence so low
Is no place that our race should go
To come here, no profit can bring
From them we can’t learn a thing
We've all seen it and most of us have done it.
What is it you may inquire?
It's the funny things people do to avoid eye contact.
First we have " The Scan." That's when someone trying
to avoid eye contact will look at you from head to toe with
finally orchestrated up and down rapid eye movement,
there by avoiding the allotted time which constitutes actual looking.
Then there is what's called the " Look Back." Yes, you can already guess,
this is when you pretend you heard someone call your name behind you
or you suddenly wonder if you left something in the store you just left.
Have I picked yours yet? We next have a classic known as " Phantom Calls."
Isn't it amazing that just when someone is looking at you, you remembered
that important call you needed to make or your sure your cellphone just rang,
so of course you need to check it.Then we have the " Head drop." It's
mind boggling to calculate the chance that your neck muscles without
warning turn to jello and your head drops at precisely the time someone looks your way. These are some of the skillful ways one can avoid making eye contact. I hope you've enjoyed them.
We were best buddies in the early sixties
Served in the military service together
We were discharged and went separate ways
Each married, went to college, had kids
But we always stayed in touch, and,
Occasionally, over the years we visited
Back and forth with sporadic periods
Out of contact.
Then, we both lost our wives of many years
Our children grown and gone
Finding ourselves alone and lonely
He has been here in my home for two weeks
We have reminisced about better times
He tells me when he goes home
It will be all downhill from there on
I suppose his son will tell me when he is
Out of contact.

I search
within soul
the only thing
I find is that of blue flames flickering
and shall never to be burnt or stomped out
for it's pilot's

I was a freshman at wellington and wise
when a sure footed poet pulled out her knife
my head was split open and locks spread foursquare
my flesh cut to servings and tongue sliced de jour
the high poetess then clawed out my heart
before she devoured me bite after bite
the freshman departed, the poet refrained
with a big wet smile from verse to verse
Intuitive attraction,closed eye interaction
spoken words braille's translation
dead silence amidst their hesitation
intuition their sacred present
through vacant eyes each felt the other's presence
in silence their hearts' rhythm is heard
as passions were observed
gentle hands touch facial expressions
their physical identity an unanswered question
Emotions...facial braille
sullen expressions,complexions pale
facial texture, old and smooth as fetal skin
both transcend first impressions
their kind words contradict facial braille expressions
beneath their aging veils , their true impressions
observed , yet both transcend timid nerves
Since birth their eyes were blind
neither yearned vision
their intuition lends its wisdom
