Best Awkwardness Poems

In silent rooms our eyes exchange sad looks.
We quickly glance away from awkwardness.
But in that moment we’ve said more than books,
unsure of what this life has offered us.

Cheers and shouts in times of celebration,
we jump and hug, yet I don’t know your name.
At times it seems we’re one congregation.
In joy united, we all feel the same.

Though in this world we sing different songs,
of sorrow and bliss, all will have a share.
And though it’s true we suffer many wrongs,
they leave with us jewels dazzling and rare.

Within us there is sacred, precious art.
The hidden splendor of each human heart!

I Am Caroline Foster

9/20/16

I am Caroline Foster.
I am fifteen-years-old.
I am shortish.
I am rather thin.
I am intelligent I guess.
I am oblivious.
I am weird.
I am childish.
I am different and not in a good way.

I am the girl who sits in the front of the class because I am expected to.
I am the young actress who can only find her voice through being someone else.
I am the nerd people only become friends with so I can do their homework.
I am an encyclopedia, Google, and a dictionary all rolled in one.
I am an outsider.
I am the one who will never be accepted because of my social awkwardness.
I am and will never be anything more than a textbook.
I am only a tool.
I am scarred from the knives I have cut into my own wrists.
I am depression, a dark room with the light switch torn out.
I am anxiety that screams with deafening volume just to keep me chained to the ground.

I am the one who’s supposed to know all the answers.
I am expected to be a perfect little robot who should never step out of line.
I am afraid to accept myself for who I am because of fear of the judgement and rejection of others.
I am the girl who is taken advantage of because they know I’m too scared to say “no.”
I am terrified of failure and not meeting the highest of standards.
I am hideous.
I am disgusting.
I am so ugly that to attract a guy I have to hide behind pounds of makeup.
I am sick and tired of being labeled by my skin, religion, GPA, cup size, and my face.
I am done hiding in the shadows and letting the opinions of others control me.
I am waiting every day for it to be my last just so I can get away from all the hate.
I am suicide ready to happen.

But, I am beautiful.
But, I am unique.
But, I am still that wide-eyed dreamer who just wants to write.
But, I am a writer of stories that could change the life of one.
But, I am not what others think of me
I am not just another face among billions of others.
I am chosen.
I am a daughter of God.
I am here for a reason.
I am me and still discovering what being me means.

And I am okay with that.

I am telling you to rip off the history and stereotypes that you have been forced to lug around for so long.
I am showing that no matter who you are, there is still light at the end of the tunnel.

I am Caroline Foster.

Who are you?

Isolated Isle

Damn this isle of mine...
solitary awkwardness surrounds
  stifles, and strangles, and estranges
    deranges, debases, encases, entraps
      ...singing this song lonely crazy

Damn this isle of mine...
coast eroding on every side
an intense sunshine serves to blind...
surrounded by sea, yet cruelly dry
  squinting eyes and palate dies

Damn this isle of mine...
Mind gone aimless wander
  condemned goner
seeing life that flashed reckless past
  and gone...tone deaf swan song
     beats on with insensitive rhythm

Damn this isle of mine...
Ever lacking human amenities
conflicting identities murky and sly
my own private Hyde sleuths like private eyes
questioning my reason with childish perspective
  this madman my sole companion
this isle will kill me before I die

If Shakespeare Wrote Our Play

the frozen breath would stain
the night sky black,
as it swallows the harmony
of a lone cricket choir.

your skin reflects
our shroud of sweat,
your teeth sacredly protest
across my naked shoulders

in this Moët room.
The half moon comes
to rest its rays,
casting a former shadow

on fingers that climb my ribs
like desperation clings to the ladder.

A want to understand
what the other pretends
through eyes, an impatient

glance in a moment
we see a reflection;
my arms braced back
hands full of drunken awkwardness

your fingers imbedded
above my chest, owning flesh
tension can only releases this ache
while your lips search for sound

stopped by times aged hand
coming to rest on our nakedness

 (as we become giants)

To Be King In the Land of Princess

To be king in the land of princess
You must be dauntless.
When invited to tea you must comment on
Her appearance and dress
With open candidness.
Express
How glad and honored you are to be in the
Presence of the princess who will know you
Are playing out her childishness.
Bless
All invisible and tasteless
Food with a heart felt happiness.
You aren't just King you are also her Royal
Advisor so there must not be any awkwardness
Between you both while playing checkers
Or chess.
Use cleverness
When talking about her room being in a mess.
Be gentle when letting her know there will be
New people in her kingdom which will be
Powerless.
Don't let her suppress
Or have any anxiousness
Your invitations to tea or luncheons will be
Endless.
You will be helping your princess
To deal with real life issues instead of leaving
Her rudderless.
Thus guaranteeing hers and your success.

The Power of Words

Words like darts in the heat of the moment
Can tattoo the skin you're in
Once expressed, you have to own it
You can't scribble them out with a pen

It could be anger or panic induced
But the consistency, just as thick
A shameful pain, you introduced
more weight than a stone or stick

You can express your regret a thousand times
But a difference, it will not yield
Honesty came out, you crossed the line
Your lips, you should have sealed

Now there lives a permanent wedge
Between two kindred spirits
A powerful relationship tempting a ledge
The awkwardness, you can hear it

Tip toeing on eggshells becomes the norm
Both parties are now at fault
One created this vicious storm
The other's pride has gotten caught

Premium Member My Soul

Deep inside, where my secret
Self breathes, whispering prayers
To the One I know as Master
I laugh, I dance, I praise
With joy that is my inspiration

Deep within, where my dreams
Awaken my heart to sensations
Of light shining across bare
Naked emotions, insights
Ideas that reassure my kindness

Deep inside, where my love
Colors my eyes in a sparkling
So gentle it flows softly
Through my hopes and beliefs
With faith that leaves me sure

Deep inside, where my laughter
Pours out from my heart
Breaking me free from hurt
Delighting me with its warmth
Embracing me with courage

Deep inside, where my desire
Sighs out a fire of yearning
Mellowing my awkwardness, severity
With music that breaks through
Singing peace into my confidence

Deep inside, where my life
Imagines, wishes, waits
For the miracle and wonder
Of God’s phenomenal gift to us
Vowing love that lives forever

Deep inside, where my God
Knows me better than I know
Who I am, where I go
 When I’m learning to know
God is always in control

Deep inside… God gives me
Love that lives and gives
Forever and always
Eternally, to my
Soul

Premium Member Burlap and Satin

A blind date
sprung on two unwary victims.
He turned up early in suit and tie
obviously uncomfortable with
a situation beyond his comfort zone.

She showed up on time
dressed in an elegant clean cut dress
wearing high heels and
a subtle touch of perfume,
oozing confidence, yet
carrying herself with class.

An introductory handshake,
soft and coarse, gentle and firm,
set the ball rolling.

Over dinner he unwound
falling for her smooth soft voice
and witty sense of humour.
Later they danced, striking a balance
between grace and slight awkwardness
merging with ease when slow music played.

Reluctantly the date came to an end,
but not before plans were made to meet again.
Who could have guessed that
burlap would compliment satin so well!

Premium Member Pick up line

I met her at a place I dine
along a lonesome road
I tried to think of a pick-up line
I went into clever mode.

But they've taken all the pick-up lines
I didn't want to offend a date
Should I buy her, her choice of wines?
I spent ten minutes in that debate.

Then I asked her if her name was Google, because she was what I was searching for
She said, "I heard that one, it makes me snore."
I said, "how was heaven when you left it?" she said "they've tried that one too:
Why don't you get lost and leave me to my brew."

I could not give up, her beauty gave me a thrill
I tried a different tack, showed a thousand-dollar bill
I said, "how can I plan our wedding if I don't even have your number?"
Her eyes flashed; she picked up a piece of lumber.

the bartender saw me plead
He came forward to intercede
She said "he's hitting on me, but lumber can hit too:
And as for this bar, I could sue."

So I left her in the bar
I felt so sad and old
With the wrong line you can't get far
I guess I had to fold

So I married Mary Lou instead
Though she watches reruns of "Daffy Duck."
Better to take what you can get
it's not always smart to push your luck.

Crypled Lyric, Spelling On Purpose

Crippled from my childhood memories,
and a past riddled in agony and pain;
I grew up confused of who I was,
and wondered if I was insane.

Crippled in my turbulent teenage years,
by the awkwardness of being shy;
I was so embarrassed of who I was,
that I really just wanted to die.

Crippled in my first relationship,
she hated her time with me;
She dropped me without a parachute,
another loser in a barren sea.

Crippled in my last try at marriage,
she had her own agenda from the start;
She stole two boys I loved so dear,
and left me with a broken heart.

Crippled from the lack of self respect,
that I almost ended it all;
But just as I threw myself of the cliff,
God caught me in mid-fall.

Crippled by guilt and unworthiness,
as he held me before his face;
I let him have my heart that day,
when he embraced me in his grace.

Premium Member Naked Dreams

Free from inhibitions
No more shyness to prohibit
The spirit’s intensity
From bringing extreme
Intimacy

Free from embarrassment
A shining example of passion
Awakening the power
Of sensuality’s caress across
Hearts

Free from any hang-ups
That might have been reasons
For never letting go and
Allowing abandon to capture
Informality

Free from the rose blush
Of shame, bringing doubts
Reflections of anxiety and fear
Conclusions that harbor worrisome
Reservations

Free from awkwardness
Without humiliation to graze
The naked dreams that penetrate
Deep within the one who knows no
Disgrace

Free from discomfitures
Without pride or egotisms
The whisper of inspiration from
One who listens to the song of spontaneity
Thriving

Free from self-consciousness
Dancing in the rain that accomplishes
More with it’s melody of lingering songs
Than any concert created by the one who is
Censored

Lasagna

Lasting impressions will be made tonight of food and man
A secret ingredient is part of the pleasure I presume
Same as secrets of the one across from me
A first date - he was late, but quickly pardoned
Given the two glasses of wine I enjoyed while waiting
Not many others around, the awkwardness ascends
As I decide, within lasagna's savory sauce - it's cinnamon!

Premium Member A Macabre Dance

Fred was taking a break after working hard for weeks
to find a cure for awkwardness for guys like him--geeks.
He dreamed of being suave. Oh, how he wanted to dance!
But work and having two left feet denied him the chance.
The door flew open then. In came a tall, robust girl.
She clambered over, yanked him up, and gave him a whirl.
She said, “My name’s Fran Frankenklutz. I’ll teach you some moves.
I’ll show you how a gal like me gets with the beat and grooves.”
They did the Monster Mash so well with their four left feet.
They are a couple now—the happiest you'll ever meet!

Hunger

With the Nepotism in my planet, essentially in my land, life compels
And factual morals are forgotten. Ancestors way of living are forbidden
By the rules we live in today.
What’s happening in our society?
Flash is made to capture, to imprison,
Not to poison and abolish every tale we ever had.

I sense discomfort when I glimpse defiance of young in open, forgive me but i
Feel pain when I see the future walking in distress; giving their lives in return for a good life.
Give them credit, but our lives were much easier before.

Simplicity is no supplementary.
But not everyone who’s involved wants to,
Pleasure is the case, dissatisfaction is the face, eish did I say it’s the pace?

Wait a minute
Facing my demons with abstemious eyes, doesn't add up, I need a fluid to go through
The night, where’s my pint to nip the tank of my thanks.
I’m jaded, guzzle, gulp facilitate
 Slurp!
It kills me to be unable to maintain my being,
Without sentiment awkwardness,
But little voices say…
‘Just be intoxicated, without any guiltiness’.

My hero dies in vein, my mother stress in pain, and my friends suffer in shame,
I didn't do it, but the hunger for more led me to desire more.
Everyone’s scrip end is thrilled, but in one way or another,
there is a season for everything.
Life goes on, I’m a young woman. I’m different, I’m a lion and
I’m in control.

I may not be the most courageous, boldest, and smartest,
But god gave me a voice and a pen,
I refuse to be the statistic, the common, and the everyday indict,
I refuse to be them, they, us, and we, I choose to be “I” alone.
I am a woman, a lion,
This is not the time to point fingers,
This is the time to raise my left arm and say I am a woman,
stray the shy of my spry.

Heroes always live, but
Hero die in this one, because this is war.

Ode to a Writer

Who will find it?
my consonants of Gold,
and vowels of Silver,
my pearls of poetry,
and rubies of writing,

Who will find me?
So, I can be paid
the Big, Big bucks?,
So I can hob knob
with Who's Who,
and lecture them
on such and such.

Publishers out there,
I got plots to pitch,
ideas to discuss,
Ways to make you rich

But All in All,
I'm tired of waiting
And God,
I've been praying
for that right way of saying,

Sir, would you, Uh
Ma'am, could you, Um.
What if I Uh
Maybe I could Um.

Who will find it?
my consonants of Gold,
and vowels of Silver,
my pearls of poetry,
and rubies of writing.
