Happy Birthday
mother earth
in your wisdom
born again
when you cradled
in your lap
Baby Jesus
wondrous birth
dancing fun
around the sun
two thousand
times
twenty-five
spinning change
without rest
aging all
except yourself
at the stroke
of midnight magic
punctual back
to start new round
dressed in season
colored gowns
bridal white
to yellow browns
all in fun of change
united
celebrating
life's surprises
popping sounds
champagne bubbles
streamers sparkling
balloons flying
moon and stars
with brightened smiles
wishing all
the peace desired
in the love of
God
our Father

Passing by
on yearly round
veil of ice
or scorching
ground
ripping prints
of year
gone by
adding one
more festive
light
to the birthday
cake of time
cheers of crowds
sparkling lights
fireworks booms
coloring sky
popping corks
jubilee sounds
glittering hats
masks and smiles
all on earth
by life united
like clock hands
when midnight
strikes
at the banquet
feast of time
mercy gift
from on high
time to shed
rags of habits
for a garment
of light
circling same
itinerary
with unfolding
love surprises
New Year first
candlelight
lit in Bethlehem
Holy Night
Anno Domini
zero time
Life of life
light of love
guiding steps
to eternal joy

The history of the world
has been divided into two
eras known as BC which stands
for 'Before Christ' and AD which
stands for 'Anno Domini', a Latin
term which means 'Year of our Lord'.

I have chosen to divide my
small world into two eras
as well, known as BB and AB.
I was born nearly 22 years BB
and have lived some 51 years AB.

BB, BEFORE BARBARA, there were some childhood
sweethearts. There were teenage crushes and a
few heartbreaks. For a brief period, I retired
from romantic pursuits. That is until Barbara
came along. Her smiling face and sweet voice
pricked me in the heart and quickly brought
me out of retirement, turning my whole world
upside down.

Yes, BB there must have been 10 or more
girlfriends, but none arrested and captured me.
None engendered a ring nor came close to the
words 'I do' or 'I don't'. But Barbara and I said
'I do'. Since Barbara, there has been no AB,
AFTER BARBARA. We have shared more than 50
Valentines, and yes, she's still the one.

Life's Shadow

Life's shadow
leaved for centuries
 before Christ and Anno Domini.
maneuvering again and again
and its delighted in that.
That it's irreversible.

Life's shadow
moving on waters
on mountains
on fire
and in valleys.
free and easy
making sure every micro
second is felt.

Life's shadow
moving confidently,
in light,
where everyone Sees it
moving quietly
in dark,
where no one sees it.
And it's still maneuvering
for centuries where we might
Be no more.

67 Anno Domini

Written on papyrus in the presence of different entities,
Thousands words written in Egyptian on a stone slab laid cryptic piece,
Dreaming realm of hallow wrath plague ridden disease,
Helms, spears, and tyrannical vengeance no apostle increase,
If the missions complete and the village is piled with burning deceased,
Then dear Nero let us move out and head on east,
For Gaul is in line, Germania is stuck with a barbarian decrease,
Mongolians are circling the river as the Goths retreat,
Growling lions, eagle insignia, war drum my heart beat,
Never falter, never fail, we die before we face defeat,
Bleeding feet on the pinnacle of this mountain surrounded with only sick to treat,
Macedonians upon ruination looking to Jerusalem to find the weak,
Holding back while we are cut off without a bite to eat,
A two prong pincer maneuver cutting off supplies while we sleep,
It will always be blood upon blood ravage savage feast, For when we die is the only time we will truly know peace.

Would it surprise you if our
 Future world had no God?
A 'Brave New World' offers just that
Ones and zeros rule our habitat

Technology has enslaved us, become our god
And no one even finds it odd
When babies are rolled down the assembly line
And each baby has their destiny assigned

Welcome to the world of 2620
Anno Domini (AD) has been replaced by After Ford (AF)
The man who built model T's aplenty
Has taken the place of the LORD

A world not unlike our own
 Where the super rich rule
  And control the masses
 Using technology as the tool
            -
Not for contest

Feminine Endings

We've worn out yet another Anno Domini.
We're twelve months - if not wiser - surely older.
You call it a relationship, this boulder
which hangs about me like a Shi'ite's bomb, and he,
at least, can choose his cut-off point. From shoulder
to knee, I'm (still) more Goldie Hawn than Golda
Meir, but we don't flow. We ooze. Like hominy
grits, turgidly. But denser. Stodgier. Colder.
Where once fizzed electricity, hums static.
The best and worst of me is best termed "womanly" -
irrational, irascible, erratic.
I'm sure my verse is worse. Tot up each billable
pretentious periphrastic polysyllable.
But you? You're spenter, deader than Mitt Romney.

On Valentine's Day

far back in 278 Anno Domini
Emperor Claudius II had hung
a holy priest called Valentine,

Captain Cook on the 14th of '79
having circumnavigated his life was
not a God, so killed by native blood line

the Teddy Bear's 14th felt sorrowfully
when lost to him on that day in '84
his mother, Mittie, and wife, Alice Lee

that was the day back in '29
when thugs gunned down thugs
their revenged vendetta time

same time as Chicago gunned down
penicillin was also discovered
supplanting the sulfa drugs around

dehydrated with fever oozing out
virally you left too that 14th day
leaving me with a sorrowed doubt

so remembered year after year
love's shot in the heart
of those brothers we hold dear

in some future 14th to come, perhaps
my loving lover's gaze I'll remember
handing some flowers, a love relapse

Why is it every other birth,
The untold millions on this Earth
Will not go down in History,
Like His? It is a mystery.

This Child of crude, humble beginnings
Fated to die for mankind’s sinnings,
Was crucified, though He did no crime,
Yet important enough to change all time.

AD, Anno Domini, “Year of our Lord”
Jesus the Babe that Mary adored,
Without a single dress rehearsal
Started a brand new time reversal.

Before Christ, time runs backward,
Since His birth it’s running forward.
Out with the old and in with the new.
Jesus bought new time for you.

There are some folks so Christ resistant.
“He didn’t live,” they are insistent.
That is a foolish thing to say
When they’re using His time every day.
