It’s our 31st anniversary
I need some goods to buy
I visited the grocery
I got me some fine wine
It’s such a murky day today
I lack the jolly mood
Despite this, I can say
It’s great to have some food
So thanks a lot, I’m happy
Happier than I look
But it’ll be too sappy
To put this in the book.
Forty-nine years of marriage, and I know this
You still look at your wife and want a little kiss.
You do not see her as her age, but as a young bride.
Your feelings are on your face, you cannot hide.
You are more in love with your wife every year.
Your intentions are honorable, your love is clear.
Your wife has the same kinds of feelings for you.
When she looks at you, you are a mere twenty-two.
How do I know this? Because I have been married a while too.
When I see my husband, I think 17, and he is seventy-two.
When he looks at me, he says I look fifteen to him.
When you are in love, you become teens all over again.
I wanted to write you a
love poem. Then thought,
most love poems nauseatingly
lame. Recycled beautiful,
luscious, adorably cookie-cutter all
the same. Not singular, as Hollywood
Gable and Lombard! More like,
Hallmark~ just fill in the name.
With that in mind, I bought you
a rose, that will wither and die…
on the front seat of a new Alfa
Romeo, to continue park with me
or freely fly. Happy Anniversary.
The first time that I saw your smiling face
My heart was caught and could not look away
Your laughter lit the room with gentle grace
And in that glow my soul was meant to stay
Though years have passed your joy still lights my way
And when we touch I fall as once before
Each warm embrace makes me love you even more
Your arms make me feel safe from that first glance.
Your soul, my safe haven.
You had me at hello.
Those true colors peeking through your walls: strength, love, and devotion.
You are my yin to my yang.
You ground me.
We’ve pushed through, standing our ground through sickness and trial, yet we still hold the line for our family we’ve created.
As years pass and looks fade, I will still see the soul I fell in love with from day one.
Happy Anniversary, my love.
Yesterday was your birthday
Unfortunately, that was a busy day
However, I went to the garden
Of my heart this beautiful morning
Where I picked an invisible rose that could bring:
Happiness, joy, good humor and an early spring.
I shaved my beard and mustache to make your day
With all my heart, I wish you a happy birthday
Oh! I would like to charm you until nightfall
When the rainbow is no more in the fall
Toward another horizon, for another season
Please accept this rose, this poem, this song.
