The leader, philosophical and wise,
Ends his speech after a long silent pause,
His true followers with half open eyes
Responding with admiring oohs and aahs.
Turn up the mic on the silence to hear
A leader's lust for worship and control,
Minds whirring like a quickly turning gear,
'Bout how what he said put them in this hole.
Hear tapping ant feet, a drumroll will grow
Til it reaches a thousand decibels;
But, are they coming to pay tribute? - no!
They're here to eat him with ant mandibles.
Great guru, great king, try this on for size -
A lengthy silence is not always wise.

the quilting festival is an event where grandma lingers.
Her friends are there – Mag, Charlene and Mrs. Fingers.
They try to pretend it is not a competition at all.
But they drag their secrets outside in the middle of fall.
Oh, my, I never saw that red and green one before!
Gram says to Mrs. McDiggins, the Irish gal next door.
McDiggins is grinning like a sailor who is in his cups.
I thought I had shown it to you she fibs to McGupps.
Their masterpieces on display, they watch everyone’s fingers.
Dirty nails and palms had better not stay to paw, touch or linger.
They want the oohs and aahs but they want their work pristine.
Gram comes home every year bragging she is the “quilting queen”.

Read about a family
With a house of sparkling lights,
Which take months for them to hang
For weeks of festive Christmas nights.
They made the Guinness Records book
And people drive for miles
To cruise around their property
With oohs and aahs and smiles.
Their neighbors, though, are not so pleased
With all the crowds and noise,
Which brings both trash and brightness
And their quietude destroys.
When interviewed, the family said
They’d rather have a hand
In bringing joy to strangers,
Which their town should understand.
I see both sides, but what I know
Is that their huge display
Makes me glad they’re not my neighbors -
If they were, I’d move away!

Trump has been breaking laws
create and cause crime with his claws
prefers premiers and skinny shahs
rile up people with his paws
likes pulling at loose straws
at his hamburger always knaws
likes women who wear big bras
have heard his oohs and aahs
Trump gives me the blahs
have heard his youthful ye's with horrible hahs
prefers hearing much applause
poor and dimwit crowds Trump draws
putrid picture he draws
sings do ray mes while forgetting his faas
skip so la ti do and away we go
cut great face which was greeted with gauze
found his big mouth in front of jaws
like big bird Trump constantly caws
seen slidding in nude in slick spas
plural of his ta is tas
would see His lost doll while in shower stall in urban sprawl
wish Trump would be so kind, get his small hands off of my behind
To see Trump tight bra she was bringing; Out big breasts did start springing
You have to send me some comments, criticism
and complaining about this collection of lines
that have been in my Horn Horrible Haiku.
which you may ensue out from a blunt blue.

Rare animals to see;
that's the bait that draws me.
The zoo is amazing;
I spend hours just gazing.
And my heart skips a beat;
as oohs and aahs compete.
But a cage isn't home;
for creatures born to roam.

planetarium experience
the second graders have no idea what to expect
it is dark and comfy
The narrator is behind us
Several turn to try and see her
She is behind a black booth
The sky gets dark
Stars come out
We hear about constellations
She ties in mythology
After a while my eyes begin to close
I have been awake since four this morning
I did not realize how tired I am
Second graders excited “oohs” and “aahs” keep me awake
I am grateful
What kind of chaperone would I be if they heard me snoring?
And I know they would have stepped over me in a pink minute

Mama's in the kitchen cooking up a storm,
Turkey's in the oven and the house is toasty warm.
Kids are running through the house playing with their toys;
Mama tells them "Keep it down! You're making too much noise."
Daddy's in the living room staying out of Mama's way.
He's waiting to watch the football games scheduled for today.
Grandma and Grandpa are now pulling in the drive,
And behind them all the other guests have arrived.
Hugs and kisses are dispersed - no one will be left out.
Family and friends gathering together is what Thanksgiving is about.
Oohs and aahs of appreciation echo amongst the guests,
At the heavenly aromas in the air from the food about to be blessed.
Holding hands around the table they bow their heads to pray,
Thanking God for His abundant blessings and for the food this day.
Each one takes their turn declaring what they are thankful for.
Hearts are full of love and cheer, who could ask for more?

A rental car ought be comfy
not crimped, cramped or bumpy

Roominess now mine; you keep the combatants

Fireworks now -- oohs, aahs, wows
Back then, musket shots in glens
Parades now -- amusing attractions
Back then, soldiers in traction
Population now -- hundreds of millions
Population then, 2,500 -- a dozen cotillions
Documents then -- Declaration of Independence
Documents now -- Trillion-dollar Amendments

Photographs in black and white
Show patterns in soft blankets
Of the precious princess wrapped
And tucked in with love.
Fountain hairstyle classic touch
With “oohs” and “aahs”
When dimples and smiles appear
To faces circling from above.
Months scouring and scanning
Books bought and borrowed
Searching meanings for
The tiny princess new.
Worries all forgotten
From illness and complication
Then intake of food concoctions
As the little princess grew.
Effort, pain and panic
All faded memories in the moment
When arrival of the princess
Was the only focus had.
So perfect are your features
And defenceless in your innocence
and dependent on your servants
Proud to be Sarah’s Dad.

And so it begins...
A dazzling display of showmanship
A very stiff dance competition
Observed by a live audience
By four judges sitting in the front row
Meticulous; they don't miss a thing
The dancing prowess of every performer
The twirls, the shuffles, the oohs and aahs
The missteps, the works
Hoofers take to the dance floor
One after the other in pursuit of glory
Each one aiming to please
To steal the show, to come out on top
All dance routines ending
In thunderous applause
They all make it hard for the judges
To pick a sole winner
It's a mesmerizing experience...
And So It Begins Poetry Contest

Swing, sweet child
Kick your legs high
Swing, sweet child
Reach for the sky
The swing's your pendulum
Gather momentum
The world's your proscenium
Elicit oohs and aahs from the plenum
Pull hard, sweet child, with all of your might
Extend your reach upward to maximum height
Rock the frame of the swing-set till the dusk of twilight
Your silhouette framed against newborn starlight
Your wondrous display of finesses linked with brawn
Has all those assembled cheering you on
As you soar over sandbox and adjacent green lawn
In your best party dress of pink lace chiffon ...
Swing, sweet child
Kick your legs high
Swing, sweet child
Reach for the sky

There is no point
If you have ‘been there, done that’
Unless you announce so loudly
On social sites
Show the proof of
The ‘Happy Family’ moments
You see, enjoying those moments
At that very instance
Is secondary
It is all about looking ahead
Thinking of the future
And this is just the beginning
Because now you
Have to check, every now and then
Those comments
Of your friends
Their mushy remarks
‘Oohs’ and ‘Aahs’
Literally dripping their love for you
These bring back the twinkle in your
Sleep deprived eyes
And instantly uplift
Your travel weary selves
If you do not get a response
From someone specific
And you want to know
Whether he is dead or alive
All you have to do is
‘Poke’ him
His reaction, a ‘thumbs up’ will
Give you the same satisfaction
As a complete meal on a hungry stomach
And your daughter will tell you
‘Now, it has all been worth it’
Your ‘Thank you’ replies
To hundreds such comments
Are bound to keep you busy
For weeks to come
So much for our craving
For some ‘social recognition’
If not in the real world
Then at least in the virtual one
Where no great achievements
Are needed to get those
‘Rewarding’ comments

The soil and my wallet was exceedingly poor
Like building a house without any door
My garden needs flowers but nothing would grow
People were coming to visit the show
So I planted some pips looked like speckeldy seed
Compliments were flying as did those trumpeting bells
Just when I thought that no one could tell
" Sir this is not Beaumontia Grandiflora"
Said a nerdy old lady surrounded in aura
White flowers enhanced by the backdrop of green
Stopped oohs and aahs and the Parisienne perfume
" ..best looking Jamestown weed that I have ever seen"
Stuck like syrup on my fingers somewhat in between
