Swing, Sweet Child

Swing, sweet child
   Kick your legs high
Swing, sweet child
   Reach for the sky

The swing's your pendulum
   Gather momentum
The world's your proscenium
Elicit oohs and aahs from the plenum

Pull hard, sweet child, with all of your might
Extend your reach upward to maximum height
Rock the frame of the swing-set till the dusk of twilight
Your silhouette framed against newborn starlight

Your wondrous display of finesses linked with brawn
Has all those assembled cheering you on
As you soar over sandbox and adjacent green lawn
In your best party dress of pink lace chiffon ...

Swing, sweet child
   Kick your legs high
Swing, sweet child
   Reach for the sky

Brings us back to childhood! I still love to swing with the grands.

And I was so careful how I used swing. I almost left it at “I still love to swing.” LOL!!

I enjoy it too, pushing them, that is. I leave the swinging to my wife. Now how does that sound? -- a little bit 'off,' I imagine... lol. :) gw

I haven't been on a swing in too long - this brought back that feeling of being about to touch the sky - and love the phrase 'newborn starlight'!

Nothing like it, is there? And such a simple device, the swing, that brings us such pleasure and send us soaring. Thank you, as always, Michelle, for viewing and commenting. Appreciated. :) gw

I relish this one. A few years ago got on a swing, wondered why I ever stopped. On to do list for the spring ;)

Yes! It's such an exhilarating feeling, isn't it? … I remember reliving it watching my youngest children crank it up. :) gw
