Real life, aka how I spent Mothers' Day morn...

Dear Officer,

Thank you for your professionalism today when you pulled me over for a tag registration that had expired yesterday. It was convenient for me that you flashed your lights at me just before my intended destination.

You told me that my being pulled over (and my subsequent treatment) had nothing to do with the bumper sticker that I proudly display that says “We Are the 99%.”

Ok, benefit of the doubt is a beautiful thing.

Ummm, yeah, so it scared me to be pulled over. And I have some kinda physical condition going on that makes me shake when I'm scared. It scares me to be pulled over by uniformed men bearing arms. My condition is becoming more pronounced over time. From what I understand from our interaction, the shaking on my part made me seem suspicious. So it was necessary to bring a canine unit in to make sure I wasn't trafficking drugs.

You brought in the dogs and, ShaZAAM, the dog told you I wasn't trafficking drugs. Is interesting to me that dog inspections are ok with no probable cause. You seemed to want me to say I had a positive experience with this, but the best I can garner at this point is..... Was an interesting Mothers' Day morning for me. Hope anyone reading this showed respect to the important mothers in their lives today, Sunday, May 13.

Thanks, y'all, for your comments. I plan to go to the city commission meeting and reading them this letter next week during public comments. I think the big issue for the officer was that I refused to give him permission to search my car. He did NOT have the right to search my car without my permission. It would probably have gone easier on me if I'd given him that permission, but I wasn't about to because I believe that the quickest way to lose our rights is to voluntarily abdicate them. Yeah, I coulda let him search, he'd have found empty Taco Bell bags, activist literature, a birthday card, various receipts. An empty cig pack or two, and a couple of dirty dishes... Yeah, ok, I'm not the neatest person in the universe, but as far as I know, both being a slob and shaking when you're nervous are both perfectly legal. He had no right to search my car, I would not give him permission to do so, so he "showed me!!!" by calling in the dogs.

No government agency wants 99% of the people united. It's a threat to their plush lifestyle and their owners. Yes, I said owners. They are purchased by the ultra rich and do what they are told, from president on down to your local rep. There are honest policemen but they are hampered by the "laws". What you experienced is really a lack of common sense by a cop and a violation of what little rights we have left. Where was the probable cause? If you think either party is better than the other google nunsense in Scranton, Pa.

So sorry to hear this incident. These cops aren't a bit professional, and on the top of all, they showed little regard for someone who had forgotten to renew her tag registration! Did they have to bring the canine unit in? I had a similar experience in Queens County,N Y....without the canine unit of course, when three police officers banged on my car while I was fixing stamps to envelopes right next to a mail-box. One of them asked me what I was doing. I told me I was putting stamps on envelopes. He asked me where I worked. I replied, " At J.F.Kennedy Int'l Airport, officer. " But his response was, " Do you fly airplanes? "" No, sir, I drive! " was my reply. Was that cop drunk, or lacked professionalism? I yelled at him and showed my photo Id...this is me..you got it? Then he said, " Have a good night, sir! "It pays to be angry when someone challenges you, or thinks you are breaking the Law.
