Graduation - Leighann Anderson's Blog

Hi everyone, this blog isn't going to be about poetry but about I am feeling at the moment.  To sum it up in a few words, I am terrified.  I have now finished my undergraduate course at university; I studied Environmental Science (I know, great difference from writing!); 4 years gone almost instantly.  Now, in 2 weeks I'll be wearing a graduation gown and the traditional under-clothes - white shirt and black trousers for me; women tend to wear black skirts, as for the men they will be wearing the full celtic uniform - a waist coat, a kilt, celtic socks and ghille brogues (shoes) along with a sporran (feathery pouch); I have always liked seeing men wearing it, in my opinion it's rather sexy but I would say that because I'm Scottish. 
 
On the 23rd of June I will be wearing my graduation gown in Caird Hall (in Dundee) full of parents, students and university officals.  I am absolutely terrified, I'm scared I might make a fool of myself because there is no rehersals!  My mum and partner will be there, sitting in the fancy red leather seats amongst a sea of black, yellow, red, green and blue graduation gowns.  I never thought I would feel this scared of walking onto a stage just to get handed a scroll!    I have no doubt whatsoever that my face will light up the entire hall; no need for lighting!  I can see it now, this will be my face -->

After I graduate (and make a total fool of myself) I am hoping to either do a MA (Master degree) in Earthquake and Offshore Geotechnical Engineering (it's not as fancy as it sounds) or another undergraduate course in a entirely different direction - Art; I do miss all the fiascos with the glues and oil paints and the nightmares with pastels, but most of all I miss being able to draw things people gasp at due to the sheer expression in colour and pencil.
