" Competitions come and competitions go,
And the ways of the judges we may never know........."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Several supportive poets have suggested that even though my poem was given "N/A" in the contest, it should still be enjoyed by the members at large on the Soup. So I have taken their suggestion and acted on it

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A DOZEN EGGS

Eggs – amination means doctor poking around
Eggs – ample, like something you found on the ground
Eggs – istence, and the very substance of life itself
Eggs - onerate is not to blame yourself
Eggs – uberate means overflow with joy sublime
Eggs – ult implies celebrate big-time

Eggs – alted is raised up very high
Eggs - aspirated is frustrated till you could die
Eggs - hausted is how tired you feel
Eggs – istential is not theoretical but real
Eggs – orbitant is boundlessly extravagant
Eggs – uberant is enthusiastic without restraint

if people wished to enjoy your poem they could have done so from your poem list. this is nothing more then you whining about not winning and trying to pass it off as friends suggesting it was worth winning.frankly i think you trying to feed your ego and being defensive about your poetry shows a weakness better left for children as for the quality of the poem itself i would have to agree with susan its a n/a

Sydney, do not despair. I've had some of mine that I felt really rocked, come out N/A too. Susan gave you her feeling on it and that was admirable of her. We can never know what is going thru a judge's mind unless we ask them. Personally, I think it's very unique and clever!!

Sydney, I have been thinking about this all day long - if a list can be a poem, and I think it can, if you relate it to life in a more poetic way. For example, if you had said eggs - orbitant - the # of times my father kicked me in the gut, then that would have an impact on me emotionally, and I think that's what's missing for me in this piece. I'm not attacking you. In fact, I think you had a great idea as to how to do the contest, it just fell a little short. I apologize in advance if you feel offended by this, but to clear my mind, I needed to say it. Again, I hope you can understand where i'm coming from, even if you don't agree with me.

Hi Susan! It is true one man's poetry can be another man's prose, yet, if no form was stipulated and LIST is in the PS Form directory you can see where Syd might have felt this would be OK? I'm sure Syd's fine. I was amazed that some actually stand alone writes came out of the topic! So, I guess we all live, learn and grow!

Sydney, I'm sorry you felt slighted by me. I can tell you what I was thinking when I didn't place it and it was this: To me, it's not a poem. It's a list and it's a few definitions, but it's not what I think a poem is. Am I wrong? I don't know. But I do hope you can understand where I'm coming from. It was nothing personal.

So true, that one poem can be a #1 in one contest, and not even place in another contest... either way....this was a clever take on the contest, Syd, wish I'd thought of it! Such fun to read!!

I think you should have a contest WITH THIS CONCEPT ..maybe using prefixes? SUB terrainian a eathly who lives under ground, SUB sist a female sybling who is younger than you ;) I could help you judge if you don't have time?

Hey, this is cool. It's definitely a unique write. And don't worry about N/A, it's the poem that matters and yours certainly does!

I enjoyed your poem, had missed it earlier. Thanks for sharing. The frustrating thing about judging is that there are so many good poems. I never know what the judge is looking for, so I write what is good for me. I think most of mine have been N/A. But when it's not, it does feel good.

Very clever and we all get those NA's with good poems. It all depends on what appeals to the sponsor at the moment. Glad i got the chance to read it. Love, Joyce
