Nostalgia For Scotland
NOSTALGIA FOR SCOTLAND.
Scotland - wet summer afternoon:
Marketplace cats hide under wind-whipped stalls.
No weather difference from November to June :
The marketeers pull tight their shawls.
Gritting their teeth against the gale,
German linguistics students are full of praise
For the local Gaelic dialect and its frail
Evolution into some modern Glaswegian phrase.
As the sea breeze lashes the land’s back,
Ohio engineers from the “Local 39” crowd
Clutch their plaid kilt and yellow tour anorak :
Proper uniform for grandpa’s old country proud,
Note Local 39 refers to a tour bus run by
“IBEW Ohio Local 39” a local branch of a US engineering workers union.
