My song choice is "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" written by Paul McCartney and produced by the Beatles in 1968.
We are not allowed to post links to songs here at Soup, so the lyrics I will post in the notes above along with video of the song, but for the judge to hear the song, she must type it in at Youtube to hear it or risk seeing who wrote this. Sadly, I do not know how to let the judge hear the song in this box.
My Add-on:
Bridge 2: In two decades more, they have reached their Golden years.
At a great big table they are sitting down
with grand kids they call dears
Final verse: Now they have a little dog they take for walks.
Slowing down, they still keep doing things -
Staying in their cozy house or gardening.
Guitar in hand, at night to Desmond Molly sings
Beatles' original Chorus continues until end
with Beatle's short ending:
"And if you want some fun
Take ob-la-di-bla-da
Thank you"
With the help of new technology,
We’re privileged again
To have a brand-new Beatles song
Entitled “Now and Then.”
Though, sadly, John and George are gone,
Their vocals are alive
And tapes of their guitar finesse
Have managed to survive.
Combining those with Paul and Ringo
Singing and on drums,
A song has been created
Which, with video, becomes
A wistful and nostalgic visit
To those magic years
When the Beatles made their music
As we followed their careers.
Not five minutes is required
To relive an era when
We were young and found the Beatles,
Unaware that now was then.
Our parental will has been broken
The dreams we had for our children are lost
We had the best of intentions
Now we’re incurring the cost
It happens so slowly
We coddle them and let them cry
We called it intuitive parenting
I call it Lord of the Flies
We selfishly rescued our children
We didn't account for the development of their brain
We wanted them to have better
So we robbed them of the growth that manifest from suffering and pain
We’ve validated their flawed positions
We monetarily reward their emotional truth
We don't want them to be hurt or embarrassed
So how dare you point out another view
Forever we've condoned their behavior
We’ve defended by saying boys will be boys
Now we pay for an efficiency apartment
Young adults with video toys
They say when a child does wrong
It’s the parents we should blame
Take a look in the mirror
Perhaps this is why they rarely change?
What’s happening in this world?
I recall a sweeter time
when small girls with jump ropes twirled.
On jungle gyms, little boys would climb.
Now kids are at home alone.
Though some still might go outside,
many just sit with their phone.
They need to roam free, wild and wide-eyed.
They need to breathe outdoors air
and take a bike for a spin
to feel the wind in their hair.
With video games now they stay in.
Parents today who are wise
inspire their kids to create
and their fancy to prize
in play! This should be all children’s fate.

In the lives we live today;
people have more time to play.
perhaps because the toys are faster;
with video games and loud sound blasters.
Online gaming sites galore;
people are still demanding more.
Games to play on their smart phones;
they can easily just play them alone.
Exercise games for television;
at least they are, within reason.
Tablet games and movies too;
sporting games as well; who knew?
Best of all, board games are back;
and I still have the winning knack!

What hurts is when your best friend ditches you, and you are the one who gets yelled at
What hurts is when a guy you like is too busy with video games or silly little quotes
What hurts is when two guys who are your best friends love you, and all you feel is the love of your friendship
What hurts is having a sister who hates your guts, lies to get you in trouble, embarrasses you in front of her bubblegum friends, and picks fights
What hurts is having friends who care about how you feel
What hurts is knowing you can’t give up, no matter how hard you try
What hurts is that you are reading this and either don’t care, or are pitying me
What hurts is hating the kid next to you because he is a troublemaker and ruins your fun
What hurts is avoiding a kid because he smells bad
What hurts is not being able to tell your parents your deepest, darkest secret
What hurts is thinking of how school sucks and how you just wanna quit
What hurts is that I’m writing this
What hurts is that I don’t care
Since moving to the country
this fact has come to light,
maintaining our new home
gives us a battle to fight.
Newly graded and seeded lawn
quickly became uneven ground,
mole runs crisscrossed acres,
flowerbeds raided, bulbs gone.
Two hundred tulip bulbs
along the fence last fall
produced not a single bloom,
little robbers ate them all.
We consulted local nurseries,
bought whatever they suggested.
Worked diligently all summer
but still were mole infested.
All remedies failed, until
he answered a TV promotion.
A sure-fire trap, with video,
guaranteed rodent extinction.
"Wow, this really works," he said
"fifteen moles, I've zapped."
But moles must have internet,
mole runs detoured around traps.
Now he's using another method
flushes runs with a garden hose,
when the little sucker surfaces,
bashes him squarely on the nose.
Works well for my mighty hunter,
the toll is now twenty-two
but alas, a new battle arises,
cool weather brings someone new.
There's a mouse in the house
who's eluding every trap.
In spite of frantic searching,
we have two frustrated cats.
I sat on the toy store shelf, feeling all bottled-up and unwanted.
The kids prefer to play with video games, these days,
rather than being outdoors with me.
Then one day, this little girl grabbed me down from the shelf
and begged her Mommy to buy me.
She took me out to play as soon as we got home.
The spring day was so bright as I met the sun for the first time.
I could not contain the joy that I felt
as she unscrewed the lid and dipped the plastic wand
into the soapy liquid. She brought the wand to her lips
and gently blew out a line of iridescent bubbles.
I felt so free, floating through the air with my new friends.
Her giggles of delight were the sweetest sound.
She dances as we swirl around her. Pure imagination takes over
as she pretends to be a fish in a bubbly underwater world.
I will never forget the wonder that was in her eyes.
The wind caught each one of us, taking us on a new adventure.
She runs to try and catch me as I drift up and away from her.

He cheats on me with video games,
Cuts out my voice with music;
The clothes all over the house,
But I'm the one who cleans;
Dishes fill the sink,
They just sit and wait for me;
Just because I said I do?
Level up chump! Tough Love!
GOD'S STILL LOOKING OUTFOR YOU
He still holds the key to your living day to day,
He still feels the pain of your sorrow.
He still has the love we all need along the way,
and He knows we've got to face tomorrow.
He still dresses lilies, and blesses fields with clover,
over in the meadow, where you used to roam,
don't you know He's never forgotton one lily,
in that place you used to call home.
He still helps you struggle with the load you must bear,
He still dresses lilies and clover.
He's still with you even when you think He's not there,
and even when you're thinking it's over.
Everything's alright, God's still looking out for you.
He still dresses lilies, and He's looking out for you.
Everything's alright, God's still there in His Heaven.
God's still looking out for you.

All of a sudden we hear...
Drip,Drop,Plop?
Oh NO! It`s raining!
Sliding on ice
Skating and twirling
When out of no where we hear...
Drip,Drop,Plop?
Oh NO! It`s raining!
Watching television
Messing with video games
We look up and hear...
Drip,Drop,Plop???
OH NO! It`s time for a bath!!!
Always a
better day
cuddling with you
dilated eyes
each video game
formidable
giving us peace together
how's that for a date?
I am always at peace
just being with you
killing time with video games
