Swirling, twirling
Crisp and white,
It’s a snowflake
Kind of night…
Crystals shimmer
By moonlight,
Building castles
Till daylight…
Holiday Fun Limerick contest- Santa, Frosty, Rudolph or Elf - set of 3 Poetry Contest
Tania Kitchin
Frosty's eyes began to dance for his date
He had plans and didn't want to be late
There be dinner and a show
And perhaps a bed of snow
So he sang a tune and hurried his gait
His midnight hour starts at a neighbor's yard
There she stood for him, all regal and starred
They planned to sled far away
And watch the moon and stars sway
And, well, share a Frosty and his trump card
Frosty thought he had set the best-laid plan
For their lovemaking began to trans span
The heat made their bodies melt
And soon their demise was dealt
Frosty had died a jolly good snowman
Old Frosty once danced through the square,
With a scarf that flew wild in the air.
But the sun came in view,
And he melted—boo-hoo!
Now his top hat just sits in despair.
Rudolph, with his nose all aglow,
Led Santa through blizzards of snow.
But the elves gave a cheer,
When they spotted reindeer—
With hot cocoa to warm up the show!
Dear Santa was caught in a bind,
When he left his gift list far behind.
So he guessed on the toys,
For the girls and the boys,
Hoping none of the kiddos would mind.
Frosty was tired of his old carrot nose
And that it drooped down daily when it froze
He replaced it with a pen
But too soon it leaked and then,
He was covered in blue to his elbows
Jack Frost wanted to have a hot pink drink
Not worried it may make the snowflakes stink
He downed a hot toddy,
Left him feeling shoddy
Snowflakes are now falling tiny and pink
The Christmas elf wanted to try to sing
But his voice could only jingle and ping
He threw himself down,
His voice made no sound
He could only make his jingle bells ring
There once was a snowman named Ray
Who dreamed of a tropical bay
He packed his sunscreen
And flew to the scene
But melted as soon as he lay
*I wrote this poem on January 19, 2024, as part of a ’30 days of poetry’ January challenge. This was day 19 and the prompt was: Can you write a funny limerick about a snowman who wants to go on holiday?
Winter. Where all dreams are frozen and
an old friend (enemy) creeps in.
Like the sands of time, constant;
Timely with energy,
hoping to steal what
you have: joy, dread,
love or hate.
Silent
Cold.
Winter approaches with a soft, light step
A simple breezy chill swallowing your mind
With eyelashes frosty and limbs bundled up
A home with flames dancing in the corner
Silken bed inviting you to a long winter’s nap
But where do the forest critters go when nippy air bites their paws?
Does the white bird still fly when her wings are glassy with frost?
Do the berries rejoice in the sound of silence when the bears and rabbits bundle in their burrows?
Do their thorns break, so brittle from the grasp of the wind?
Does the glacial silence roar in the ears of the mice, unable to stand the quiet chaos?
As I am defrosting in my home, watching the powdery first snow
Does the rest of the world go on without me, sleepily blinking the frigidness away?
The snow serves as a blanket outside my door, covering the creatures in a delightful glisten
Savoring any apricity in their fur, ice glinting in their eyes
All is calm, the silence like the rhythmic sound of a bird flapping its wings
The white bird flies over the treetops, melting in with the sky
Just another snowflake in the silent, crystal mountains
Winter knocked
but no one answered.
Since Summer went on holiday
and Spring is still in bed.
Autumn hears but is sunk so deeply,
so comfortably
into the pumpkin colored easy chair
that it cannot be bothered
to get up and relinquish
the leaves off the trees
or the puffs of dandelion seeds
or the ghost of a warm breeze
which haunts the days.
So, Winter knocks in vain.
Wishing everyone a verry merry holiday
hope santa brings you lots of goodies and your belly is full of yummy food
Sending good vibes for a happy, healthy, wonderful, safe and enjoyable new year

bare are trees’ branches
except for random pine trees
wearing Christmas lights
Fun holidays that I adore -
so swiftly do they slip away
and always leave me wanting more.
Fun holidays that I adore -
they always make my spirit soar.
Gone soon will be my holiday.
Fun holidays that I adore -
so swiftly do they slip away.
summer is long gone;
though Christmas, Thanksgiving, and
happy New Year’s Eve
fill dreary days with brightness . . .
two months of winter remain
She shivers under a thick blanket
twisted limbs seeking sympathy
she envisions twinkling lights
and the cinnamon scent
of Christmas candles
watching lovers’
mistletoe
kisses
melt

hush
nearby
approaching
snowy footsteps
and loving whispers
puffs of billowing breath
the joy of two newlyweds
searching for holiday spirit
as heavy branches sigh in relief
There's a graying in the morning sky
Soon snowfall will cover hills and fields
A perfect setting for this holiday season
Winter white glowing 'neath a silver moon
Waiting for the sounds of children's laughter
Hot Sun whispers 'Go out and play.'
your spirit cannot disobey
it's a piece of the Milky Way
The darkest day, the darkest day;
Colored stars ignite a long night,
poetry the softest sound bite;
Peace is now colored chestnut white;
Follow the light, follow the light.
Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve,
special days filled with festive charm.
When family and friends all gather together,
for a winter’s holiday on the farm.
Old and young folks cramped and crowded,
but there was no need for any alarm.
Because everyone was welcome there,
for a winter’s holiday on the farm.
Catching snowflakes with our tongues,
creating angels with legs and arms.
Sledding and skating until light is gone,
for a winter’s holiday on the farm.
Red noses, cheeks, and cold toes,
would not cause us any harm.
Hot chocolate warmed us from inside out,
for a winter’s holiday on the farm.
When the moon replaced the dissolving sun,
and children crawled under blankets scattered round.
To hear stories of the olden days now departed,
of past winter’s holidays on the farm.
Gently falling, floating down from soft skies,
Caressing the spirit with frosty flecks,
Rousing warmth inside that dark can’t disguise.
Carols sung by those who know love’s effects,
Laughter and light reflect God’s compassion,
Caressing the spirit with frosty flecks,
Blizzards so bright paint the world an ashen,
Timeless faith reminds the spirit to give.
Laughter and light reflect God’s compassion.
Hailing the birth of One who did forgive,
Making a way for all to celebrate.
Timeless faith reminds the spirit to give.
He is One who can set the sinner straight,
Assuring the soul that they’re surely saved.
Making a way for all to celebrate.
Christmas opens the heart where love’s engraved,
Gently falling, floating down from soft skies,
Assuring the soul that they’re surely saved.
Rousing warmth inside that dark can’t disguise.
