Then? What then?
What about the
Bare legs
Seeking address
Wait. Be a snail.
Then the hours
Began undressing
And then?
Wait.
No unleashed
Impulses.
The earth tilts
Towards the sun
Here in India
Dusk thickens
In California
Legs in line
Mostly bare
For the dancing hall
Sea and seagulls
Some vultures too
Mingled with the
Moneylenders
Waves and wavelets
Tipsy and tottering
Hard orange pieces
In pursuit of
soft ones
Twilight in the bottle
Exuberance in deluge
Here the legs
And hands
Raise the curtain
Bread and butter
Poetry and Mathematics
Computers and
Greenfields
Fish and mutton
Then? And then?
Then? What then?

“The sea casts a magic spell with the ever- rising breakers and the melody, the clanking of waves produce. It amazes us with the wonders hiding within its caverns. Without drawing any boundary or barrier, it rushes
to touch or submerge everything on its way”--- Quote by the Poet.
What engrossing feel overpowers me,
As I loiter along the sandy strands of the sea.
Waves whisper their goodbye as they recede back,
Girdling the shore with a garland of foamy blooms.
A zephyr comes tickling and tangling my hair
Seaweeds sway back and forth as waters shoot up.
Beneath the sand, when wavelets on my ankles kiss,
Like a child, I long to jump into the wobbling mass.
I let the water braid my hands, to savor its coolness.
Though I don’t like its chaotic depths and crashing tides,
In the music of waves, I enjoy a moment of unalloyed joy.
The sea is indeed a sanctuary of never- ending epiphanies.

When wavelets curl along the pier
To cast a light in shades of teal,
I then recall a summer bold
Which wrote about our truth, our dare
And young we were ...a bliss reviewed
The wildest lips moist as night's crest
A passion christening one dream
While moonglow blessed this warm request.
We siezed fresh thirst, moments entwined
Where jays in June acted like hosts
Yet bad omen of clouds grew stark,
More vicious than a thunder's wail.
So now I watch shore's reverie
The pier much older than love past;
A time when seventeen grew still
Held by this gentle gentle heart.

The sun set peacefully
as I looked out towards
the distant red horizon
of the calm, oily sea.
A gentle breeze caressed me,
I stood on the edge of the beach
leaving imprints on the fine sand.
I loved this lonely beach,
the silence was broken softly
by the azure wavelets
that brushed the edge of the sand.
So much beauty and wonder
despite the darkness
that, like an old fog, descended
upon that peaceful part of earth.
I looked towards the sky
dotted with billowy clouds
that raced below the twinkling stars.
I wondered if my angel was up above,
looking down on me,
guarding me from my earthly woes.
What could I do without
my heavenly being of love?
I felt immense tranquillity,
the beach shrouded in peace
far away from the noisy cities
to which I would have to return.
The stars appeared: the evening star,
was it that heralded
the birth of my Creator?
It mattered not, for I was safe.
He was taking care of me.
I knew I'd never be forlorn.
Those days have passed.
Now I'm back home
among cold concrete blocks.
Yet in my heart is peace
for I can still hear
the gentle lapping of the sea waves
on the peaceful beach
that is my own.

I wished for sunflowers to lift their heads.
Feeling the warmth of your breath
They gently sway in tune with my love.
I wished for passion and earthy sweat
Feeling every inch of your sweet skin
Its totality, outside and in.
I wished for starlight to sprinkle dust
That sparkles like fireflies in the night
That I might see your eyes light up.
I wished for soft warm welcoming sand
To feel it bathe my eager feet
While wavelets lap at your tenderness.
I wished for nectar to quench my thirst
And found the memory of your first kiss
That took me to paradise and beyond.
But above all these things I desire
Ii is more time that I need the most -
To spend over and over again, with you.

Whispers of sound
in the dark of night
that I can almost hear
calling from far away
just outside
so very close
whispers of stories
once told to me
the lapping of wavelets
and bumpers that rub
creaking of lines
and distant gulls cry
as in times of old
to answer the call
go down to the sea
into the long ships
chilling air whispers
calling to me
to take my bindle
go down to the sea
old are those stories
of things that were once
remember in darkness
in stillness of night

The mellow western sky darkened,
The sea was calm that night,
Yachts tacking across the bay
Towards their appointed piers.
Luminous moon rays shimmer
Over wavelets that bathed
The coloured pebbles
Strewn all over the long shore.
As night slowly fell
I began my walk along the promenade.
A soft breeze was a welcome to all
Especially to the sailors that plied the bay
In their sleek sailing boats
Now tinged in red by the dying sun.
Along the promenade, I met with friends
A few words of salutation
But I hurried on toward an ancient tower
That once stood guard against pirates
That invades the surroundings.
Plundering and taking slaves with them.
The Tower was now a restaurant,
And there sat my love waiting for me.
The breeze-blown brightness of her hair
Seem to invite me to our destined tryst.
She stood up and we embraced,
A soft kiss on her wet lips.
It was a promising beginning
Of our night of love.

The waves lap up against the shore,
A soothing sound that I adore.
I’ve heard this many times before
Yet always, it’s appealing.
Aside from sea gulls, there’s no sound.
Off-season, no one is around,
So when I hear the wavelets pound,
Relaxed is how I’m feeling.
My normal anxious state recedes.
The ocean rules; my mind accedes,
For this is what my body needs,
A little dose of healing.

wavelets wavering to and fro
lapping and caressing the coast
on and on the flow undulates its curves
till the sound transcends
their rhythmic motion calming
easing a solitude in turmoil
in soothing idyllic hypnosis

In moody silence, nursing my shallow bruises
I sat outside in the graying hours of the night
Staring into the dark cloudy night sky
With nothing to cheer my sullen spirit
My hair left in shabby mess,
By the mischievous passing breeze
My thoughts slipping out of focus,
Like tiny specks of leaping fleas
A circular pale face, though not in full sheen,
From behind the nebulous veil,
Showed up all too sudden
Looking at me with a beaming smile
I thought of a thousand smiles
Which kindle and illumine the universe
The love hidden in all things
That eclipses all bitterness and curse
Like ripples in a still pool
Caused by pebbles hurled
By the naughty kids’ wanton hands
A strange sensation unfurled
Tearing down the pall of gloom
Wavelets of cheer grew
Coming off in wider circles
Changing my mindscape into brighter hue
A new moment was born
And in the ceaseless beat of my heart
I sensed a new rhythm,
And knew all my dullness depart!

Keys Sunrise
She rises from the water
drenched in rosy glow,
trailing feet kick wavelets
on the mirrored dawn below.
Into her fiery breast inhaling
the remnant mists of night,
warming breaths exhaling-
the cotton clouds ignite.
She paints the faint horizon
with God’s morning mercies, new,
kissing a garland round the world
in pearl and opal hues.

As their eyes met,
sparks of love
emitted
emotions swelled,
passions surged
like a well
full to the brim
a tear drop
glistened
in her eyes
cutting across
the borders,
it slithered down
her creamy cheek
as a freshly formed
globule of dew.
cracking
into zillion
rays of light,
it created
a zillion wavelets
of joy
suddenly,
she turned
into a forest aflame
he,
a river in spate!

The air was pure and bright. A sea-salt tingle
hovered in an easygoing offshore breeze.
In mesmerising rhythm, wavelets sloshed
and swished along the timeworn jetty wall.
The bay was sparkling in the morning light
as early gannets hungrily patrolled
their crystal-clear domain.Slight movement now
within the overnighting boats, safe moored,
serenely sheltered at the break of day.
A swan flotilla, now near fully grown
and all in a row, in silence glided by,
exploring weed and tidal offerings
under a careful matriarchal eye.
The year was moving on, the midges gone,
and still the little ferry ploughed its course
across the bay, its passengers intent
on finding peace and personal content.
The cafe at the pier, with clinking cups,
was heralding the day, with early starters,
few in number now. The summer throng
dispersed and homeward bound, to feed
on memories. For some, like me,
a fitting epitaph might be
“He lived his life in thoughts of Arran “.

crystals gray lie
reposed rest prolonged
trembling stirring rising
flight carrying away
whispering frigid movement
racing quickly on
plucking pulling lifting
water stored in a way
wavelets rolling softly
retaining sunlit warmth
peaks foaming splashing
stolen warmth flying up
transparent fountains ascending
gushing racing high
frigid stratosphere cooling
turbulent rolling flow
vapors condensing forming
castles dreams can see
whiteness filling darkening
heaviness crashing descending
shearing tearing descending
breeze torn to shreds
grabbing tearing carrying
roaring across the land
pounding harshly hitting
splashing droplets flung
smashing crushing forcefully
drenching tearing down
droplets forming puddles
filling to overflow
seeking flowing downward
quickly race across the land
Flowing streamlet’s gather
swelling creeks do grow
rushing in to rivers
flowing into the sea
dim grayness fading
beaming light swells
sparkling grains like diamonds
flashing now in the sun
