Raise a Glass to Despair

I am drawn to you as an alcoholic to a glass of whiskey,
I lift you to my lips taking a simple sip,
I pour you from the bottle I’ve enclosed you within,
Without fail,
Another day,
Another drink,
Why can’t I stop pouring,
Pouring and drinking from your glass?,
I put you in the bottle,
I expected you to stay there,
My selfish ways inscribe within,
Tip the bottle,
Unscrew the flask,
Giving hopelessly into your misery,
You comfort me while you take my life,
You steal me from my body,
You disconnect me from my conscious mind,
Who might I call upon to save me from the nothingness?,
No, I am not an alcoholic,
But as I tip the glass further,
Your solace becoming my pain,
Raise a glass to despair!,
Raise a glass to easeful torture!,
No, I am not an alcoholic,
But I am addicted to the ideals you present,
Please,
I beg,
Save me from myself,
Save me from inside,
Please,
I beg,
I do not want to be okay if this is what it means,
I do not want to be okay if okay belongs in your arms,
I do not want to be okay,
I want to survive,
Let me survive.

Loving is a Drug

I’m on a nasty drug
Disguised as kindly beauty
You’d never find my dealer;
I’m the one who sells it to me

Yes, I’m the dealer of my love
Spilled those pills straight down my heart
I never feel I’ve had enough
Yet you’ve broke me since the start

HowI wish I could stop taking you
But love’s an opioid for crying
Every day I’m longing, drooling, too
When inside I know they’re lying

It's as if I have forgotten
All the pain you’ve put me through
My mind goes numb, my eyes turn dumb
Bam!
My hands connect with you

And within your cusp I pry your vial
I know it's full of dust…
But it gleams like gold within the moment
My eyes see through its rust

I’ll unscrew your rusty bottle
And my heart of longing sinks
My desire stole the best of me
Your perfume suddenly will stink

Every time you blew my candles out
To windy winter blues
But I can not stop my heart from beating
So it's something I must do

So much love locked in my heart-shaped vault
No one to share it with but you
To be free from you means no more love
How can I make it through?

Premium MemberTo Pitch a B itch

I often post my poems “A I” - (AS IS)
Spelchek uses “R”s and I don’t
We us “H’s” instead
(we paahk R caahs in Haavaad yaad)
We’ve been known
To pitch a B itch
Mostly about those F-N Yankees
We “gawk at visitors from New Yawk”
We eat “bay gulls” for breakfast
Sprinkle “jimmies” on our ice cream
Buy our booze at the “packie”
Return all one fingered salutes
Drink from the bottle…cuz we know the bartenders
Believe that crosswalks are for sissy’s
That “cursive” is a language
Our politicians are as crooked as our roads
We will BOO the home team when they “piss us off”
Then call them WICKED PISSA when they do well
(we even have it on cups and T-shirts)
AI would unscrew itself if it had to listen to our conversations
We are who we are
DEAL WITH IT…

Someone from New York will tell ya where to go
Someone from Boston will tell you how to get there

Premium MemberUNSCREW

I am feeling fraught,
And, stupid too,
I don't know what to do.
I need to open a screw-top bottle,
Which I am about to throttle.

Bottle tops and lids on things
Also, those with tin pull rings.
Exasperate me.

I feel useless when I buy
Parcel that I can't untie
Tags that are too small to see
That should open the cling-wrapped purchases easily.

To button up a shirt or blouse
That used to take seconds
It could take hours.
Time is of the essence,
So it's said

Then there is another saying,
"You are a long time dead"
It must be my thinking that is askew.
As I furiously shake the bottle,
That I can't unscrew!

Tough to fight,
Difficult to write,
Hard to unscrew, it’s too tight,
Not coke its sprite,
Not tomorrow its tonight,
I am not obese am a couple of pounds light,
It’s dark, shine the light.

Premium MemberBright Diamond Glow

Romance for me went full throttle
with the appearance of a handsome gent
when I was on the verge of womanhood.
Nothing on earth could match the shine
of romance when it is at its finest.
How I'd like to have captured the feeling
and kept it in a bottle,
and each time I wanted to relive it,
I'd unscrew the lid to the bottle
that retained that incredible feeling.
I'd hold it to my cheek and inhale with joy
its bright diamond glow.

It is so much easier
                                      to screw
                                          something up
than it is to unscrew it
                                         Either way
                                your screwed.....

Premium MemberLET THE KETCHUP CATCH UP

Food packaging was once simple.
Ketchup came in a glass bottle
with a small cap that you unscrew.
Now we have plastic package new.

Man’s cleverness comes to the fore
to give ketchup a novel pour.
What clever gadgets we are sold
but there are details we’re not told.

Just the right squeeze is critical
from plastic bottle flexible.
Now if it’s straight out of the fridge
you must squeeze hard to get a squidge.

Then it should be allowed to breathe,
inhaling just from underneath.
But if you overlook this part
the next squeeze with a splat will start

and all around receive a share
as bright red splatters everywhere.
So next time with plastic ketchup
give it breathing time to catch up.

Premium MemberMy Songbirds and Squirrels

The songbirds are plentiful where I live in the middle of oaks
I had four birdfeeders, but white tail deer slammed into them
Until they broke into bits, for they were plastic and did not survive
As they were being deer-bashed against the trunk of these oaks.

To discourage the deer, I bought new metal bird feeders.
It brings in up to eight cardinals, and a blue jay daily.
Wrens, robins, sparrows, and wood peckers arrive before nine.
Rat-a-tat sound on my oak bark; I enjoy watching their heads bob.

My forest is full of tweets, peeps, whistles, coos, and caws
There is a huge the influx of crows, which I also welcome
Playful squirrels are fun to watch, but their fingers are too deft
Daily they unscrew the tops of my bird feeders, laughing at me.

Allowing all of the bird feed to land on the ground, in a clump.
Bottoms of feeders roll into driveway, so I have to drive around them.
A plethora of activity, a menagerie of lively animals including rabbits.
Sassy squirrels chastise me when I come out; thinking it is their yard.

His Meaningless Life

Statements are the treats
To the spoken,
But to the intended;
They still might ill-treat.

The Dreamer still dreams-day dreams
To find his passion
In his day,
But realizes at nights
That he spends his time in nothingness.
The Merchant says,
Where and when forth you get me my love
There and then forth I make you not my slave
Where and when forth you get me my riches, I repeat
There and then forth I make you not my slave
Then forth I unscrew your bond
To me
A yearlong you have, to win your life
I won't spare it at all
After this epoch of a lifetime

On the day before his death
The Miser's eyes go bloody red
As red as the flaming fires
In the failure's junk bed
While he day-dreamed .......

An Appeal To a Simple Poem

To string three words together
And appeal to simple

Align my self with heavenly points of light
To cleanse my words of wrong intention
Unscrew meaning, untwist perception
Incite delight

Remove pretentions built upon forms
Neither desired nor pierced
But set in place pleasing combinations

And float you down a river in rapport

To join you no restrain
Meeting minds on a word
In secret collaboration

This would be my hope
This seems to be my prayer
To a stack of words
And a piece of parchment

For I work not to make you work
But to give repose
In what you may already know
But did not say

Oreos

eating oreos
if you like the creme center
unscrew the cookie

crunching oreos
feeling famished, just dive in
chocolatey chewing

extracting filling
detach the white from the brown
eat the frosting first

There once was a sly kangaroo
Who was jealous of Winnie-the-Poo
   He tasted Poo's honey

CHOP SHOP

The Villages at Carver ate
Four tires and a steering wheel
Their hunger pangs would not abate
So they acquired plans to steal
 A screwdriver
And a wrench too
A steel hammer
Golf carts unscrew
The Villages at Carver hide
Its many parts in a chop shop
As golfers exercise their stride
Wiping balled sweat until they drop
On dapper lawn
For evil’s spawned
From dusk to dawn
Behind closed doors
The Villages at Carver search
For splintered wood and tools of trade
Amidst the oak and pine and birch
The hidden door reveals a blade
Village gone mad
Carvers past sad
Pitchforks take stand
Revenge at last
The Villages at Carver mass
Drawing a crowd to view a home
Overlooking manicured grass
A course with four golf wheels and chrome

Butterfly Under Glass

How did I arrive
In this glass menagerie?
Why look at all those peoples' eyes
Just staring in at me
Not one of them to say
"let's just unscrew the lid"
and let me out to fly-
oh wait! That one just d i d
