Where is this creature, this distorted deer?
Heather knew, but she pretended to not be clear.
The deer was shy, and wanted to keep away from others.
He would be skittish around her belligerent brothers.
Not sure she lied, hoping they would go away.
They finally did, and she was glad none did stay.
For the deer trusted almost no humans, they were not pure.
Heather felt honored and beloved, that he trusted her.
You sure about sitting on a tile roof? Jake asked his cousin Reflection.
Jake was not a risk taker, but they had a connection.
Meet me when the moon is ready, she said and you will feel the cool.
The brick tile roofs in Arizona go down in temperature daily as a rule.
Jake trusted Reflection but he was still a little wobbly about the risk.
He was a persnickety tomcat who swept his messy alley with a whisk.
You will love it, she reassured him. I would not lie about the moon.
He planned his climb up to the roof not one single second too soon.
Reflection was already up there, meowing her heart out in the night.
He climbed up and parked himself beside her; enjoying the moonlight.
Hey! What is all that caterwauling? A neighbor asked in a mean way.
The cousins thought it was funny; he was old Grouchy Mister McMay

Written words by James Edward Lee Sr 2021
Only one person he trusted with his virginal wife while he was on crusade.
It was his best friend Nicolas, who was a rather handsome blade.
He gave him the key to her elaborate shiny new chastity belt.
Sure that he would only use it if an emergency was dealt.
Nicolas was honored by King Henry’s admiration and trust.
He resolved to only use that key if an emergency was thrust.
The wearer of the belt was Queen Anne, a beautiful wife.
She gave him a come hither look, but he ignored it with strife.
Queen Anne was gorgeous, prettier each day, Nicolas had to admit.
She did not like that belt, it irritated her more than a bit.
Nicolas spent years with her, more delighted and enthralled each day.
He finally had to chip that damned chastity belt up and away.
When King Henry returned from the crusades so fine,
He had sons all over the kingdom, the newest made nine.
Henry was delighted with his sons; all strapping and true blue.
He was a bit light in the belfry, just between me and you….

welts on her legs
eyes cast downward
professionally guarded
refusing to talk
trusting no one
closed tighter than an encyclopedia
thoroughly indoctrinated
to not share family business
school staff is aware
tries to establish trust relationships
to no satisfactory end
child comes up missing
photo pops up on channel five news
body never found
spirit unrecovered also
a memory of a child
haunting school staff forever

Their gentle cadence both sooth
and reassure her

Her meditations continue
as she waits for the

To pull her out of the
water, to be mesmerized by her
charms, so he will provide her with
what she needs.

Hello, stand up, come for a walk,
Tell me about what’s going on,
Tell me what’s on your mind today,
The drama that has just gone,
The thoughts you think everyone thinks,
What you think others all say,
And your feelings about each of these thoughts,
These thoughts that’re eating away,
You suspect of a plot said against you,
Or a plot against someone you know,
You’re a bit suspicious of your peers,
Thoughts hidden in each empty hello,
Just remember that I’m always here,
That I’ll always support what you do,
And know that I will always believe one person,
And that one person is you.

In Gun He Trusts
By Elton Camp
Sam’s so sweet sugar won’t melt in his mouth
Almost all of his life he has lived in the South
Crestview Community Church is his delight
He boasts of his salvation both day and night
He says to obey the Bible when under test
But has actually read only a few parts at best
The Ten Commandments he does recommend
However, with “Thou shalt not kill” can expend
But the Second Amendment he does glorify
Just try to take his gun away and you’ll die
To Jesus, the Prince of Peace, praise he’ll sing
But to most violent ideas he continues to cling
Get him riled up and he’ll angrily say
“Mess with me and I’ll blow you away”
He wants to claim Jesus as his friend
But, on his example, doesn’t depend
For rather than turn the other cheek,
It’s his loaded gun he’ll seek
He knows his pistol’s location well
Atop a Bible he took from a motel
But try to tell him he’s making a mistake
The greatest of angry offense he’ll take
“Blessed is the man who
trusts in the Lord!”
Goodness and mercy in him
shall be stored!
“He shall be like a tree
planted by the water…”
And will not wither or fade when
the temperature gets hotter.
“His leaves are green and will stay
in the year of drought.”
Because his faith in God
is what his life is about!
“The heart is deceitfully wicked.”
And who knows it?
God! He made your heart
and he helped compose it!
“He searches our heart and
he tests our ways…”
There’s no running from him.
Throughout our days.
“He gives each according
to the fruit they bear.”
He knows what you’re doing.
He is always there!
Why not trust him with your life?
Why not start today?
Allow him to be your Lord.
Simply trust and obey!
You’ll never be disappointed
by what he can give!
He will bless you and give you
a reason to LIVE!
