Some days are worse than others
when I need to sit and cry
I open my old shoe box
once used for Valentine's
I take a trip down memory lane
to visit familiar faces
a reminder of my past
never to be forgotten
While walking to school
I was thinking about last weekend
- it was great. we did nothing -
and I stumbled on uneven pavement
it was a trip down memory lane
I was wearing a dress and I skinned my left knee badly
Charles, walking with me, grimaced at the blood
- which almost made me laugh
he wanted to call a car but I doughtily soldiered on,
scraped, bleeding and cursing my own clumsiness
If people noticed they didn’t point, stare
or barf at the grizzly sight
at school, I went straight to the ladies,
and washed it with soap and water
sticking pieces of toilet paper to the worst of it
to stop the bleeding and then limping to class
in emergency medicine, that toilet paper
would be called an ‘immediately sterile’ cover.

A trip down memory lane
Can be treacherous
Paved with all good intentions
But must tread lightly
You might get tired and bored
Catacombs, slumbering dead
Slipped from life emotions shed
Blistering dark, insects creep
Dead will all their secrets keep.
Concrete world laden grey
Occupants have had their day
Guardian angel made of stone
Feelings nil for those old bones.
Silent wait 'til judgment day
Undertone of great dismay
Dust motes dance display macabre
Ghostly song from long-dead bard.
Tourists come they're not naive
'tis their fate they do perceive
Footsteps shuffle then they run
Eager for life, air, and sun
My apologies but I am taking a trip down memory lane with this poem . The piece was written after a visit to the Capuchin Crypts in Rome. I took poetic license with this piece it was not a typical subterranean catacomb. However, It made a lasting impression.
Waves of nostalgia and melancholy washes over me as
I mourn the loss of the good ol' days; a somewhat...
Somber, prolonged trip down memory lane, ruminating over
The final days of freedom before going off to college!
Fun, innocent times with my buddies! Treasured memories made
Under the sun! I wish I could relive them all; I sure
Lived life to the fullest! Sadly, those days I'll never retrieve!

I scored myself a ticket
for a trip down memory lane.
Time has surely passed
but the music's still the same.
Photographs and relics,
adorn unaltered tapestry
Yesteryears' reflections,
still displayed for all to see.
My ears a'buzzing with a charm,
heart's now filled with joyous glee.
Mesmerized right from the start
of that majestic melody.
Trumpets hum and guitars strum,
what a glorious symphony!
It takes me away, back to the days
of the way life used to be.
My sweet sweet surrender,
that heavenly-sent scent
Bollas and koeksisters as I remember;
both so decadent.
Their tempting aroma
fills the air
so lovely and so sweet
Coconut,cinnamon and aniseed,
still Cape Town's humbly gestured treat.
I took a trip down memory Lane;
My soul teleported to higher plane.
I was lost in reveries;
I found an angel that lives in my memories,
Lost but found in the field of ferns.
A diamond amidst the waving field of ferns.
Behold the enchantress!
As majestic as an empress.
Her countenance radiates love,
Her eyes like that of a dove,
Her smiles illuminate the soul,
She reigns without control,
She lives in my memories;
Forever in my memories.
When she utters my name;
My heart get wrapped in flame,
Her soothing words subdue my anxiety,
Thanks to her comforting quality.
Her words enchants my soul,
And triggers the feeling in my soul.
Behold the enchantress!
Born with loaded sweetness.
Indeed, she stuns.
Each sand shimmering in the sun
Is a precious moment shared together,
Basking in the sun forever.
Dedicated to Nelson Sandra
I remember the world before all the people and cars.
The animals lived in peace and harmony with the land.
I was the lifeline to places both near and far.
It was a time which you may never understand.
I led the way for early settlers to cross to the west,
Trying to give them a smooth and trouble-free ride.
There were plenty of places along the way to rest,
In little towns that sprouted up on either side.
As the years went by, the world was in a hurry,
So I was covered in gravel and stone, and then paved.
During the war, interstates were made to ease the worry,
And many others like me would never be saved.
The quaint little communities that once were thriving
Became dusty old ghost towns almost overnight.
I became riddled with weeds that would not stop growing,
And soon I was deserted; out of mind, out of sight.
My glory days returned through a short-lived t.v. show,
And people remembered where they used to get their kicks.
If a trip down memory lane is where you want to go,
Then keep me alive by taking a drive down Route 66.
I took a trip down memory lane; it was a short trip. LOL. :)
A trip down memory lane. In front of a windowpane, my paint brushes search for a landscaped vista... a frame to capture for a lifetime or more
unskilled hand scribbles
scenery mixing with dreams
colours get new shades
Fragrance of some wild flowers got mixed with these aberrant colours - would be preserved for long. Even after a few decades the fragrance still exist. I can smell it closing my eyes, with a deep breath.
winter may snatch leaves
making stems bare - wait for spring
and blooming flowers
A few coloured stains still remain... like bruises on my skin - fading with time, leaving mementos of the stints. My blood stained hands are searching fugitive dreams. Now, I can smell gun powder only.
whistling gust searches
love among the falling leaves -
lost humanity
on a hummock of Tane
he Practiced legerdemain
saw a girl
had to whirl
his trip down memory lane
I broke down my past life, gave of every fiber
But for what; a jilted love affair, blatantly acted out
Right under my nose; i suppose you didn't mean to do the unthinkable,
And break the unbreakable; was it worth it; not ever.
The after taste of the questions we replace,
With careless answers and swollen myths trying to pretend something is
When in actuality, the reality is; it isn't;
Let's see what's happens you said
While placing my heart on comic hold; funny thing is
There was nowhere else for me to go
I gave of every fiber; the essence within me
Only to be sacrificed, as if i needed you
There’s no impossible solution to this dilemma
No justification of this trip down memory lane
As things progressed to what now has become
Life in slow motion, the over-analyzing,
This mental state; I’m in,
About to be one of those women who wanted to fight for love, but didn’t
Love hurts most of the time, secluded, everything
Can be gone within seconds, sometimes, second chances,
Don’t always happen; only life after death.

Hook of Holland arrive by the ferry
Meeting our good friends Ans and Jerry
The pancake house is where we love to eat
Being our with our Dutch friends – what a treat
Zwarte Piet will be visiting soon
Children crowded into the living room
Waiting for the black hand around the door
Sweets are freely scattered on to the floor
Visiting the haunting Anne Frank museum
Makes me think of the phrase carpe diem
Walking along the stunning cobbled street
Our trip to Amsterdam is now complete
I would love to return again one day

A Trip Down Memory Lane
Let’s take a walk down memory lane,
Let’s go to the fifties to share those days once again.
Go to the Triangle Restaurant with your steady date,
To see all your friends cruising and staying out late.
Ride very slowly through our small town,
The twenty-five cent gas never let you down.
A cherry coke we drank with two straws,
We cruised, played our music, never worried about the laws.
Let’s go back to those good old days,
There were ball games, parties, and class plays.
The music we played never got old,
The juke box blared out those songs of gold.
We went to the drive in movie on Saturday night,
As teens our money was always very tight.
Our friends would hide in the trunk of the cars,
Then emerge and sit with us under the stars.
I want to go back to those days of yesteryear,
Where we lived among friends without fear.
To stop and have a soda at the local drug store,
Yes, it is possible for us to dream once more.
