Notes About The Poem

emergency medicine

While walking to school
I was thinking about last weekend
- it was great. we did nothing -
and I stumbled on uneven pavement
it was a trip down memory lane

I was wearing a dress and I skinned my left knee badly
Charles, walking with me, grimaced at the blood
- which almost made me laugh
he wanted to call a car but I doughtily soldiered on,
scraped, bleeding and cursing my own clumsiness

If people noticed they didn’t point, stare
or barf at the grizzly sight
at school, I went straight to the ladies,
and washed it with soap and water
sticking pieces of toilet paper to the worst of it
to stop the bleeding and then limping to class
in emergency medicine, that toilet paper
would be called an ‘immediately sterile’ cover.

! Why just this past summer, I ALSO tripped, fell, and incurred a wound on my R knee due to an uneven sidewalk! How cosmic! I took a photo of my bloody wound, the sidewalk, and a screenshot of a map indicating where it happened and mailed it to the Public Works. I labeled it ‘Ouch!’. The sidewalk was fixed a week later. I now have a new scar for show and tell. . <3

We all know a F-I-N-E FINE young lady like yourself would not be caught dead dining at a Taco Bell. =]

I’ve taken many trips down memory lane. I’ve got the scars to prove it. Glad you’re okay. Enjoyed reading this.
