Trawls Poems | Examples

Fishing Up the Dead

A night poet discovers -
late arrivals,
words surfacing in the light of day.

Throw a grappling hook,
lower a life-raft
it will soon be too dark to see
to rescue
the drowning.

Words lay down their lives
enter another night
aboard ghost ship.

A nocturnal unrest
trawls for time tossed bodies,
attempts are made,
cold lips to warm

Upon the surf of another morn
a fully formed cadaver,
newly dressed
presents itself for further study.

Unrequited Love

Within my healing, broken heart shatters yet again through unrequited love.
Within my healing, wounded soul injures yet again through bitter- sweet yearn.
Within my healing, endured storm afflicts yet again through absurd swirling conjectures.
Within my healing, violent waters trawls me deeper yet again through unfulfilled desires.

Undeterred by life's brutality, my conviction utters “ I will not drown since my lifeguard walks on water”.
My wounded soul will be restored again through holy love.
My broken heart will reconstruct again through self-love.
I will withstand any storm again through unbreakable persistence.

Premium MemberImmune From Concomitance

Flitting in a distant flash,
a fleeting glimpse, seen far off for a second
is all it takes to shutter a flutter in memory banks.
To trigger recall, perhaps a deja vu replay brief.
Our mind constantly trawls
for associations in the swirls of a crystal ball
in every scene and furtive glance we see.
Nothing is a new release, a gala opening night.
All we see are shorts and replays,
snippets of this scene linked with that,
bits of past mixed up with present,
    left-overs mixed with anti pasta.

How nice it would be to have
memories wiped clean like as hard disk crash
to see everything new again, untainted by recall.
To be able to switch memories off and on at will.
To choose what and when we want to be reminded.
To choose when we simply want to sip up the new with a straw.
To taste the scene devoid of context,
    immune from concomitance.

Depression Makes a Lousy Breakfast

Drapes are closed but the sun gets through
Summer morning, birds a-tweeting
Sweat on sheets, personal dew
Two more snoozes then up for meeting

A chunk of mahogany
Surrounded by suits
Well-shaved chins
Playing silk flutes

Golden cuff links
Slide over shine
Reaching for Perriere:
Businessman's wine

The big-haired girl
With tight lips and skirt
With clipboard and pen
In a roomful of men
She manages managers
Directs the directors
Away from the P's and Q's they might blurt

When minutes are taken
They while away hours
In a concrete maze
With the rented flowers

The plastic shag carpet
The paper thin walls
The wood-textured desk
Holding five clacking balls

The photo of daughter
The drawing by son
The lunch packed by wife:
Ham and cheese in a bun

Like a silent fire drill
At four-thirty flat
The lifts are sardined
With impersonal chat

All hoping to beat
The motorized fleet-
The Mercedes armada
That trawls down their street

Curtains open, sun goes down
A day in credit, a night in debt
A silent pillow away from town
Night light off, alarm clock set

Softies

Like a sword
you stole into my fold,
Now tell me; tell me about us?
Do you think about us?

dissolved my heart,
absolved my hurt
Tell me, my love, about us
tell me about us?

softies sweet
and at doorstep of your heart; my feet.
Tell me; my love, about us?
Tell me about us?

And now that you’ve lose your wrap
what do I expect if not a stab.
Now tell me; tell me about us?
Do you think about us?

i am the one who trawls,
coming to you on crawls.
Now tell me; tell me about us?
Do you think about us?

heard your call
and though the wall
hide all about us?
just tell what you think about us?

The Autumn On the Threshold

frantic talent
among willow shadows
capsized boats
in trawls meshes
the spiders spinning brocades

lights at the window
someone waiting for us
an ardent desire floating in the air
set free
the moon soal wandering

a cock
sifting the stars with kikeriki
in the lake full of waterlilies
waves of silvery clouds putting out the night lantern
slowly the dawn caressing the forehead

under the feather sole
bridges lines
can be seen
far away beings coming nearer through
their hearts accord strikes

contrasts
deepening disappearing
in a continuous back and forth
a wind shaking the white chrysanthemums
the cottages hats appearing from the fog

though it is hot
autumn stitch
shaking the nut trees
the fisherman’s wife is alone
all over baked apples steam

unhealed wounds
weeps towards the murky sky
at the poor’s gate
there is an icons painter
getting a bowl of food

with the love colours
the trees and sky are painted
my friend
I give you a tear
of its light

Premium MemberThe Strand

She paints a perfect picture
As she trawls the rocky strand
A muscle here a barnacle there
Enough to fill both hands
.
Two odd socks for one at least
will decorate her cast
Her hair tied up as best dad can
Which probably won't last
.
Bent double as she picks seashells
Her pants tag proudly showing
Her bag of shells light up her face
And leave her innocence glowing
.
She takes a moment to herself
To fix her favourite pose
She sips her drinka frown-filled thought
Her poem to compose
.
She spies a group of ducklings
Braving every wave
Excitement flairs as help she does
Each little one to save
.
Her gentle hands embrace each one
The highlight of her day
Her wondrous sight at each ones plight
As she helps them on their way
A day at the strand with Aoibha ...oh and the Ducks

Isis

Isis trawls the Nile,
Finds thirteen dismembered parts,
The phallus missing,
Sings, resurrects Osiris,
Fashions gold phallus, conceives.

Nightfall

Twilight gleams as its last, satiating stream falls
Malingering shadows cast their tepid tent over the sun's fiery cauls
Shadows recede; an eerie awning o'er earth's tenants slowly crawls
Darkness's bleary shroud o'er earth's canopy sprawls
Jaded sojourners scurry to their lighted halls; ballasted by their plastered walls
Nocturnal creatures emerge, echoing their long, doleful calls
The moon's, silver silhouette over the listless expanse sprawls
Its magnetic beams do fawning opposites attract; alternately, o'er vixen minds duplicity scrawls
Twinkling flood lights stream mystical portents; causing the wandering eye to pause
In the outer limits, each dilated orb in its own purview of the milky strand trawls
Distilled vapors disburse; earth's canopy enthralls
Frothy dew strokes the svelte canvas then wantonly withdraws
A blighting chill hovers over the stillness; fertile growth forestalls

He trawls the wide cosmos
            in infinite sway,
precocious prodigy scanning
            the milky way,
a worldly net of technology
            buoyant far and wide,
surf’s universal waves
            the cosmic tide,
god’s gift to ergonomics
            this silicon chip,
invisible beam tacked
            upon it’s celestial trip.
To pursue distant knowledge
            cloaked in verbal art,
desire evidence,
            a galaxy to impart,
an ancient form of life
            a labyrinth of care,
cultivated society,
            ready to share..
A return fare a dispatch
           maybe the ticket,
desperate to unlock,
           mankind’s barren wicket?

Premium MemberAngel Or Demon

Angel or Demon
What does he appear to be
He meets them, takes them
With no pity

He trawls the streets
Bar to bar
His deed is done
Emotional scars

The morning after
As they pick up the pieces
His victims in trauma
As the previous night releases

These vulnerable ladies
Of the night they be
In their liberty they work
But are they really free
