Nightfall
Twilight gleams as its last, satiating stream falls
Malingering shadows cast their tepid tent over the sun's fiery cauls
Shadows recede; an eerie awning o'er earth's tenants slowly crawls
Darkness's bleary shroud o'er earth's canopy sprawls
Jaded sojourners scurry to their lighted halls; ballasted by their plastered walls
Nocturnal creatures emerge, echoing their long, doleful calls
The moon's, silver silhouette over the listless expanse sprawls
Its magnetic beams do fawning opposites attract; alternately, o'er vixen minds duplicity scrawls
Twinkling flood lights stream mystical portents; causing the wandering eye to pause
In the outer limits, each dilated orb in its own purview of the milky strand trawls
Distilled vapors disburse; earth's canopy enthralls
Frothy dew strokes the svelte canvas then wantonly withdraws
A blighting chill hovers over the stillness; fertile growth forestalls
