The Kennedy Center

The Kennedy Center is known to the world
For honoring those in the arts –
From Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Astaire,
Whose talents top all of the charts.

Sinatra, Gene Kelly, L. Bernstein, Kazan
And Benny and Lena and Merce,
Ray Charles, Lucille Ball, Isaac Stern and George Burns,
The list both profound and diverse.

Belafonte and Ailey and Hepburn and Peck,
Gillespie and Sondheim, the Who;
Aretha and Dylan and Kander and Ebb,
Judith Jamison, Chuck Berry, too.

Baryshnikov, Quincy, Paul Simon and Cash,
Warren Beatty, James Taylor and Cher;
Tina Turner and Spielberg and Barbra and Tharp,
Yo Yo Ma, Dustin Hoffman – all there.

Al Pacino and Elton, De Niro and Streep,
Lily Tomlin, Santana and Sting;
LL Cool J and Reba and Joni, Mel Brooks,
Lionel, Dick Van Dyke, Carole King.

There are more I’ve not mentioned, but going ahead,
It is going to be quite a shock
When the Kennedy Center will honor, perhaps,
Village People or maybe Kid Rock.

Oh, I fear for this country in so many ways
And it feels we’ve been stabbed in our hearts
With the Kennedy Center now being run
By a man with no stake in the arts.

The highlight of our week
Knock knock who’s there
A barrage of punchy one-liners
Hilarious skits to crack you up
Ruth Buzzi swinging her purse
Lily Tomlin at the switchboard
One ringy dingy…two ringy dingy
Rowan & Martin’s snide remarks
Giggles from behind doors
Goldie Hawn flashing her smile
And her infectious laughter
Unconditionally raising
Sunday night’s goofy silliness
To new lofty altitudes
Of exuberant cheerfulness
Lavishly overflowing well
Into bluesy Monday mornings

Premium MemberAs

As fog saturates every living thing
Penetrating dampness coats trees and shrubs, flowers
Here in my aloneness my open heart bring
And I know upon me your grace will shower

"Here I am to worship, here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that you're my God
You're altogether lovely, altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me"

Thank you for your beauty, thank you for loving
Thank you for your gracious forgiveness
I want to say that you're my Holy God
Here I am once more only You I adore

As the sun cast red upon the horizon
Each bird sings their unique lovely song
The sounds of man's inventions nosily run
Where just earth's creatures' souns belong

What was it like before man's creativeness
Brought the noise of engines running loud and long
Just to be able to commune with nature's liveliness
And hear each creature's morning lovely song

"And here I am to worship, here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that you're my God
You're altogether lovely, altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me"

Premium MemberBoundless Love

"I come to the garden alone"
In the cool freshness of morning
While the Dove's melodious tone
Invites me to join the song

While "He walks with me and talks with me"
About His "Amazing love, and how it can be"
How "His spirit is within me"
And "That He my King, would die for me"

Now "In my heart there rings a melody"
I now sing in harmony
With that wonderful cooing Dove
I will always carry that memory within me

That memory of my God's love
"His love his boundless love
Reaches down and touches me"
"It is my Savior's boundless love"

Bang It Hit Me

the big bang I'm told was the perfect place
for the universe to begin to save its face
and blast away false fascias and chaos
to show to its master, who was the boss

yet all flew apart in accelerated directions
and things went awry in a beautious way
tangentally curving in arced circumspection
galaxies spewed forth to a timeless decay

then life set about to see our sun winking
later sapiens emerged and soon began thinking
very deep thoughts, as deep as they'd muster
of quarks, black holes and far-off star clusters

in passing, I was able to conscript serendipity
from times distant of our space-time continuum
to pull an idea from that ancient antiquity
that others might be in this universal aquarium

in some cosmic queue, as thinking matters stew
in their large heads, if they even have some
they wonder about us, who we are, what we do
whether we're intelligent or merely pond scum

now when i sit in some colossal traffic jam
irritated and annoyed at the world, I am
reminded of that other, somewhere out there,
and I smile a bit and think of their welfare

My Friend Kathy Tomlin

Kathy is a special spirit
her sparkling eyes emit the grandeur of life
looking into them is spellbinding.
her smile glistens, just to look into her eyes
and that magnificent smile makes you feel her arms around you
while her wings are not visible, they are there ever present
an angel on earth,a true friend
my heart sings to know her.i breath deeper knowing i can be myself with this angel that
listens intently to my woes.we are separated by many miles, but in my heart and soul i can
reach out and touch her.she is always there,my friend,my angel,my pal,my Kathy
